You are doing god’s work dude. I can tell that you care about people going through it. I struggled with it my freshman year of high school and now fully recovered freshman in college. Thank you
Omg! I found the DP manual a couple of years ago and it was an AWESOME Godsend. However, I continued to feel alone as a Black woman, embarrassed that I couldn't get myself together as therapist, and convinced that I was a bad Christian. I am SOOOO grateful I found this specific video. When I tell you I relate to Latoya soooooo much! Right down to being a PK and watching A Different World! Thank you Shaun for finding people from all walks of life who've had this experience. LaToya, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU ❤
Oh my God, I laughed, I cried. I can relate so much to what that girl and you are saying. So many magnified fears and crazy intrusive and obsessive thoughts. I even thought that listening to classical music was a cause for madness. Or that I was having schizophrenia and I'd be afraid of my own friends and family and I'd end up being alone. I'm so thankful I've found your channel. On my way to recovery but still some work to do. But I'm finally hopeful! Greetings from Greece.
Yooooooo. I was diagnosed w anxiety in June 2022 after experiencing some trauma. She really hit home about Christianity for me!! I had been OBSESSING about going to hell!! I mean driving myself CRAZY thinking about death, what happens after death, even questioning if God is real at all. Which I know is ABSOLUTELY not me. Just wow. After I was able to finally bring myself down from obsessing over that, I said "God is sitting up there laughing at me" 😭 it's SO reassuring to hear someone else, ESPECIALLY another black woman, talk about her struggle and ability overcoming that.. It's LITERALLY JUST ANXIETY (I'm still telling myself this)! It will be OK! ❤️❤️❤️
I just gotta say I'm in love with LaToya's smile, and I'm glad you've recovered dear. Stay being you! 😍 And like usual, thank you, Shaun. You're amazing.
Phew. I had a massive panic attack in the middle of the night and watched two of these videos. They really helped bring me back down! I bought your manual and I’m working through it now ❤
For me it's weird. I usually only have DPDR in random mini bursts that are more common in winter. My problem is that DPDR is also the first warning sign for a vestibular migraine attack which for me means literally throwing up and losing consciousness for a while, so my DPDR if it comes on very strongly out of nowhere induces panic because it could quite literally mean that I need to put myself into a safe position in case I lose consciousness. I've had that fainting happen four times over the last decade and I have yet to pinpoint what exactly is the difference between dpdr and migraine attack dpdr, which is why random moments of dpdr really catch me hardcore if I'm in public spaces. I'm glad it's not super permanent, but I do see a pattern of it happening more when I have other people around me. I currently see the correlation to my anxiety and I know my tools from therapy way back when, but sometimes those don't work well either. So I'm working my way through the messiness of not knowing.
I'm glad to find this conversation as I am having "IT" just now. I suddenly woke up from sleep as there's a lot going on in my head while sleeping and I had panic attack. I'm listening to this while it's "ongoing". Thank you very much guys, this helped me calm down. So glad to know that I am not alone in this situation. 😭

Hey Vivi, thanks for your comment and welcome to the channel! 😊 Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. @abass mehdi I‘m good! I’ve started to take therapy sessions and it helped me a lot! At that time it felt like it was a never ending story but gladly it wasn’t. If anyone is struggling with their mental health, please know that you are never alone!
@abass mehdi To be quite honest, I don’t really think that I can give you any tips. But one thing that I can absolutely recommend is just letting it happen. It’ll maybe sound weird and terrifying but it’s the truth. Please don’t try to deny your feelings because they are valid, and quite frankly it’ll make you feel worse. Just look after yourself and do things that make you feel comfortable and good! For me that was reading books or watching my favourite tv shows. It’s okay not to feel okay! Please don’t try to rush anything. If you can I’d also recommend to see a doctor or a therapist! And please know that you can and will make it! It’s a long healing journey but just like me you can do it! (If it helps you I’d also recommend to talk to someone about you feelings! There is no use in trying to keep them in. When I wasn’t feeling alright I cried a lot, but crying isn’t anything bad because it helped me!)

It’s good to remember there’s nothing to fix. Practise accepting it and even tell yourself “I accept this experience.” Even if you don’t at that moment. Live your life as if you didn’t have it. It’s simple but not easy, you will get through this! Also do things outside your comfort zone.

Don't worry, it doesn't matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch DPDR off completely by stopping the anxiety that's causing it 😊 Read this carefully: www.dpmanual.com/articles/how-long-does-depersonalization-last/
Don’t worry, all of the symptoms don't need to be consistently happening all the time. You will experience some and not others at times. And remember that visual symptoms like that are super common with DPDR and will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/does-depersonalization-affect-vision/ And of course if you're experiencing persistent eye issues please don't hesitate to speak to a medical professional.
I get tensed up in little thing easily.... I can't focus on single word,, dry mouth.. Tension in face muscle, eye muscle.. I am dealing everyday,.. Now i am broken from inside to face this..
Hey Ravishek, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

Do you think you could find someone dpdr recovery from concussions?
Thank you
Another great video Shaun, why didn't you ask/discuss any medication if used?
Thanks Gary! 😊 I don't think LaToya mentioned medication so I didn't ask, but you might find this article useful: www.dpmanual.com/articles/can-medication-cure-depersonalization/
Hey Shaun!.. I have dpdr .whenever I'm about to fall asleep. I see short dreams... What is happening? Can u tell me?
Don’t worry, issues with sleeping and dreaming are very common with DPDR and all anxiety-based conditions. 😊 I know it can be frustrating but they are temporary and harmless and will fade away and stop as your recovery continues: www.dpmanual.com/articles/why-does-depersonalization-affect-sleep-and-dreams/
Bro I got dpdr about 2 months ago from very bad weed experience. 7 days ago my head started to ache and on the same day I got panic attack, since then my dpdr has become intense. I am taking medicines, . I feel dizzy and sleepy all the time . Did you feel the same?
Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 Don’t worry, that all sounds like a very typical case of weed-induced DP to me. I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you 😊 You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com
And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR.

I’m 16 and have been going through dp/dr for just about a month now. Your website and UA-cam channel has helped me so much on my journey, but I am just wondering how recovery feels because I have little to no stress with my dp anymore and am allowing my body to recover but I still find that these dp symptoms are still lingering, what does this mean or what can I do to help eliminate these last symptoms?
Hey, thanks for your comment! 😊 Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on.

Invest in the manual! Honestly Shaun’s manual is the cheapest manual for anxiety/ DPDR I’ve ever seen and it changes lives.
@@caitlyndiann285 only problem is I'm still a teen and have no ways to get money
Try to accept and stop thinking about it
It’s good to remember there’s nothing to fix. Practise accepting it and even tell yourself “I accept this experience.” Even if you don’t at that moment. Live your life as if you didn’t have it. It’s simple but not easy, you will get through this! Also do things outside your comfort zone.
I am frightened that I never used weed but I am in lot of stress when I went to my college in 1 year....and from last December I have panic attack and all...Will I recover?
Don't worry, it doesn't matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch DPDR off completely by stopping the anxiety that's causing it 😊 Read this carefully: www.dpmanual.com/articles/how-long-does-depersonalization-last/

With the eye problems, what if my eyes are never dilated but my vision still feels “off”
Don’t worry, all of the symptoms don't need to be consistently happening all the time. You will experience some and not others at times. And remember that visual symptoms like that are super common with DPDR and will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/does-depersonalization-affect-vision/
And of course if you're experiencing persistent eye issues please don't hesitate to speak to a medical professional.

Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com
And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

@@winterbeksinski7060 Thank you! I definitely have good days and bad days currently and my biggest issue is fearing it.
