- In this video, Metallica frontman James Hetfield finds a few moments during the epic WorldWired Tour to talk about how a continuing partnership with Meyer Sound helps directly connect the band’s music to audiences. Intermixed with tour concert footage, Hetfield talks about visiting the “mad scientists of sound” in Berkeley and says of the tour’s LEO Family system, “Yes, it’s loud, but it’s extremely clear. You can hear every nuance…”
Metallica’s FOH Engineer “Big Mick” Hughes is known for being the “master” of the front of house “puppet,” supporting the band tour for 33 of the 35 years Metallica’s been touring. For each tour, Hughes looks for the best loudspeaker array. Ultimately, the Meyer Sound LEO family was his first choice.
Sound Matters.

Chris Brown president of planet earth)
Saw them in 2008 from like a mile away in the top ranks and still the sound was incredible.
After see Metallica in 2017 I can defo say I have not heard a better gig since, clear and crisp and heavy and you can very note and word. Awesome!!
KILLER!Sound equaling the power of their music!tone raven-Raven's Cry
Sound does matter!!
I hope they bring a Meyer rig to the South Dakota Show. I want to experience this rig so bad!

This man KNOWS business. After all..he is the CEO of the worlds TOP METAL BAND OF ALL TIME.
Chris Brown he truly does. they headlined my race track in late 90's . was very business oriented and on point with prediction of merch sales and other details.
The amo frontman perfect metallica ❤
So You Can Hear Yourself... Gotta Get It Right. Love.
Saw the boys live 4 times, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2020. First 3, heavy and very fucking loud. 2020 wasn't much of either.
Best speakers out there
I’ve seen Metallica 29 times live. Since 1990. The best gig I saw was at the ministry of sound 1997. Special limited audience and none of that super OTT production. Just basic small stage. Tiny club and raw rig.
I remember when they owned their own PA and wouldn't hire. They had that massive old EV MT4 stuff :D
Saw them recently and it sounded huge, but it also felt pretty muffled with all the low e being played
Greg Chipelski it drowned everything to the point where it was difficult to hear what song was being played. This was seated, about 12 rows up. Sounded better down on the floor.
My tour will be at 100 /103 db
I have seen Metallica many times. First time 1990 and last on the Hardwired tour. I thought the sound was clear but not loud enough.
I saw the boys in 2009 and it was heavy but loud as fuck, saw them 2 years ago at slane and I agree not loud enough at all
@@michaelkennedy736 it's the damn newer db limits in the venues they have to follow. engineers try to make up for it with a heavier low end.
Mick is a fucking legend
Processional.
You cant run Infra-subs constantly. They tend to make people feel physically uncomfortable after prolonged exposure at those SPLs.
I once "investigated" a night club running them non-stop who asked to come checkout what was going on as no one wanted to be down stairs for more than 40 minutes and bar staff were complaining of feel ill after a full shift.
We ended up giving the DJs control for use only during a drop were after 10 sends they automatically would switch off if left on n couldn't be used again for atleast 10minutes. All controlled by a PLC. All DJs were trained and explained why and most used it creatively once they knew the sonic impact.
Problem solved !
thicc, heavy, crunchy sound
Mayer Used fragments of Metallicas live videos
I haven’t yet heard a speaker brand that beats Clair brothers
There live show is great but James distain for low end kinda ruined the gig for me last year. No subs on the ground at all except for the outer ones that get triggered only a few times like specific floor Tom hits and the intro cannon. All the subs were flown :( I would love to hear the show with ground subs but James won’t allow it anymore.
Yes! Right.
I had the exact same experience. I talked to the Meyer system tech beforehand who told me there were no ground subs and I was confused. Consequently, I didn’t hear any subs, besides the silly effect ones. And the volume was far too low for my liking.
C'mon Australian tour make it happen.
I know right, im getting real antsy, it needs to happen fucking soon, i reckon end of next year, their dates are booked till mid next year
aussies have to wait until the end..
Now you’ll have to wait even more, sad for you pals. Hopefully James will be back stronger than ever!!
We got really screwed. I was annoyed because not long after the withdrawal from Australian tour they booked other dates. With COVID we may not see them here for another couple of years if at all.
I can't hear Jason... :(
Ahh... I May Succeed...

for me best sound comes from Martin Audio
I agree
Its clear, but its also "digital" and a bit harsh and grating. Could be the digital guitar effects/amps of course. And those subwoofers make the drums and bass overpowered the vocals and guitars when I saw them. I recall Metallica sounding amazing live in 92, 98, 09 outdoors, 11 outdoors and 14 outdoors, from a pure audio quality/mix standpoint. Best show overall probably 93 or 11 (big four).
All of the shows you’ve listed didn’t have any digital guitar signal at all
They should rename it to MeyEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH Sound.
If you got the money, I don’t think most companies will say “no” …….duh
I’d Rather Be In Stage
And you can hear Lars fucking up clearly...
Monitor
The sound in Stuttgart (Germany) on May 9th 2018 was horrible! But why? I enjoyed the show anyway!
Not a criticism of Meyer or big Mick, but the sound in Twickenham was horrific, like just a mess of high frequency mush, at least for the first few songs. It's just the acoustics of a stadium. When I saw them at the O2 the sound was much better.
?
Yes it would have been nice to see you guys but NO not only did you go to rehab which I understand and than covid they say that bad things come in three's I fucking hope not please come back to Australia with slipknot
Not An Observer... Not My Thing.
what? there sound is not as heavy as the old days. it sounds way to clean... no gain....
PA speakers have nothing to do with guitar tone
@@Jakeman90210 compare a show from 2000 to the current shows/sounds..
You are deaf if you hear the same thing...
And the guitar sound is NOT heavy and deep as before..
@@audimetallica duh, this video is about Meyer speakers. The cause of that tone change is their amps. Previously tube, now axefx. The huge pa speakers pointing at the audience do not control the the guitar tone. The guitar rig does. It’s pretty basic.
@@Jakeman90210 what I can understand the sound is pulled past a Computer, because its “easier” in terms of weather/climate affecting the instruments.
And that they dont use real amps anymore- am I wrong?
@@audimetallica you are correct. And that’s how the guitar tone is generated. Everything past that (the entire audio system) does not have an effect on the tone of the guitar. This video is not talking about the guitar rigs at all. This video is only talking about the Meyer speakers. So when you say it doesn’t sound as heavy anymore, that has nothing to do with this video.
On concerts they all use axe fx digital amp modellers. Sounds garbage no depth ! compare to the past. No more analog setup. ! All digital !
