  • The American bison was once on the brink of extinction. Thanks to Michel Pablo, the ancestors of these remaining few survived. Now, the American Prairie Reserve is Restoring an Icon. Director, Jeff Reed is an active filmmaker based in Bozeman, Montana.

Restoring this magnificent animal to its rightful place in the prairie ecosystem is a noble goal ... God bless those who contribute to it ...

Just a note. I had a giggle when there was a line about restoring a natural system and the first species shown is the pheasant, an import from East Asia. I do support your mission and ideas though. Heard about you through the Meat Eater podcast with Steven Rinella.

I wish the bison could run wild like whitetail and mule deer, pronghorn, elk and moose, without being on a preserve.

'Kill Every Buffalo You Can! Every Buffalo Dead Is an Indian Gone'
Those were the words of a U.S. Army colonel in 1867. Eight years later, General Phil Sheridan went as far as to commission medals to reward anyone who brought pelts from dead bisons.

Mustangs help destroy the ecosystem of the Great Plains, a major catastrophe. We should concentrate more on replacing the mustangs with Bison

Mustangs are not destroying it. It is the same with other grazing animals, that when the natural predators are absent, they can become too numerous. But on the public lands where mustangs live they are in low density, whereas the livestock permitted to graze there is multiple times that number. So who is destroying the land? Bison and horses are both native to North America, though the horse was hunted to extinction by the first humans setting foot on American soil.

this is funny because we raise bison and so much of what is said here does not actually mean anything
Bison fart, burp and groan on a continuous basis, we have a few dozen on 3 thousand acres of land. They are just like cattle they prefer hay to foraging and while they calve easily, they prefer to be in the barn.

They need to import the European bison and breed them with Americans. They will be bigger and better
