    I use pellets and a 36w UV, I also use the avast spyglass definite improvement over anything else I've used. Especially when cleaning or adding media.

    nice informative video Travis. I use my reef Octopus biopellet reactor in conjunction with the Seachem pond Matrix, which is very macroporous. it has kept my nitrates in check and so far has worked well

    I use a uv on my tank with the bio pellets only 9 wats and I have had no problems what so ever. I have been using this for about 9 months.

    I went with red seas nopox , so much less hassle as my reactor needed constant cleaning to keep the flow optimal

      how is it at the moment?

    Great video this, I am thinking of running bio pellets but feel it's risky in such a small tank so may start off very slowly

    what about biopellets it's work very good ?

    Do you still recommend bio pellets today, or do you think they are too aggressive with the trend to keep nitrates and phosphates above 0?

    I use a uv sterilizer with my bio pellets no issue what's so ever!

    Anyway you could do a video of a in depth guide on how you dosed from the refrigerator?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому +2

      I can try but i no longer have the refrigerator, But basically you need to find a way to pump water down and into the refrigerator. At that point you can dose into the water line so it will flow up into the tank. I ran a line off my manifold and dosed directly into it.

    All your vids are great info. Thanks for sharing. I just picked one of these up. Why don't you use the bottom red plate?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому +1

      You dont get a good tumble with the plate in the way. Thanks for watching

    I going to set up a bio pellet reactor very soon. I'm watching different videos to see what to expect. I came across this video..got alot of good information. I have a 65 gallon reef with nitrates constantly at 30 no matter what I do. But I do have two large tangs I don't want to part with. Should I use a reactor that goes in the sump or hangs on the back. What is best in your opinion. ?

    Great video bro! Lots of awesome information. Question though, is the only time a bio pellet reactor should be added is when your nitrates get too high? Or should it be added as a prevention of nitrates ever getting high? Thanks man

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      I like to add them when starting the system but it doesnt really matter. If your system is already running you need to focus on going slow with adding them.

    Great video I have a question I have a 34 gallon tank with 9 gallon sub tank how much should I put in when I first start and what should be my maximum

    I know for the zeovit systems there are lots of additives to use to replenish what is loss otherwise corals will die, based on how good you tank looks, do you dose anything to make up what is loss by bio-pellets reactor? thanks
    Great video always looking forward to watch your videos.

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      The biopellets only pull out no3 and no4 so you wouldnt have any need to replace anything. Now i do dose KZ coral system at the moment to do a review. Those videos are posted.

    How do you keep your tank so clean? All 4 sides of the tank?

  • @ScottM

    Great information Travis. Do you soak your pellets before you put them into your reactor?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      Most of the time yes in ro/di water but when im topping off i just put them in the reactor.

  • @vincelok894

    I think a UV Filter will kill bacteria in the water column, but the bacteria in your reactor will be safe from this. I've never run one, I don't see the need. Plus most of your bacteria is on the rock surfaces I THINK.

    Do you still use the bio pellets? Do you recommend them to everyone? What are your nitrates at now? Ive heard 0 nitrates is bad.

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  7 років тому

      I do, and no i dont think everyone should use them. My nitrates do not show up on the test kit. I make adjustments on feeding, biopellets based on coral color. darker means higher nitrates/phosphates.

  • @paulbragin5034
    @paulbragin5034 8 років тому

    did you take your phosphate removing media offline once you added bio pellets?or are you still running it together?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      +pauls reef biopellets remove nitrates. I left my gfo alone and still use it for phosphates

  • @ryanrbarba

    was the reactor cleaning the byproduct of what the reactor produced ?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      Yes its one of the down sides to biopellets or from what im told two little fishies brand. I have moved to brs biopellets and its not as bad.

    What do you think about algae turf scrubbers?
    I'm setting up a new tank so I'm wondering if I should add one.

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      I have used them on frag systems but never in my main. I know a lot of people who love them. Its really your call. I personally like a big refugium.

    Hi also Do you use any kind of GFO or just Biopellets and Zeolites?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      I use GFO, Carbon and Biopellets thats it

    do you have to have the reactor out put hooked on the skimmer like it is on your system or can you just run it into the same chamber as the skimmer?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому

      I always recommend people have the output pointing at the input of the skimmer or hard plumbed in you have a better chance of skimmer off the bacteria that way. If you want to run it in the same chamber give it a try if you start to get a cyano bacteria outbreak i would hard plumb it

    • @mid-amaricaaquaticsurvices536
      @mid-amaricaaquaticsurvices536 8 років тому

      Ok i think ill just plumb it into the skimmer lol

    • @FishOfHex

    how bought micro bacteria? do you add that to the reactor?

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  8 років тому +1

      I do not does any bacteria for the reactor.
