The silver/shine on cast iron is usually a sign that someone used an electric wire brush on it to try and clean it.

Do the lead test before you use the e tank. For that matter before you do anything. That way you don’t contaminate your cleaning apparatus and/or chemicals. Throw away your chemicals and scrub your tank.

Those lead test off of Amazon are not worth a damn. I returned mine. Found some at Lowe's that work.
