Hi Janet-yes, you can lock the blade, but I'm not a big fan of locking the blade in overlock mode. If someone isn’t experienced with sergers, it’s very easy to allow fabric to wander too far to the right and potentially get tangled in the loopers. A better option would be to use a blind hem foot with a guide to shield the elastic from getting clipped. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips and please tell your sewing friends about them. If you want to see a technique, send along a suggestion!

Hi Glenda, yes, I used a 3-thread wide overlock (left needle). You can also use a 3-thread narrow or a 4-thread overlock stitch. It's up to you. Thanks for your question and for watching Serger Tip Clips! Tell your sewing friends to tune in too!!!

For those of us who have a coverstitch/chain stitch function, could we use a chain stitch when we fold over the elasticized edge instead of using the sewing machine?

Hi Denese, Yes, definitely you can use the chain stitch after folding over the elastic. The chain stitch has enough built-in stretch to work well. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips and be sure to subscribe to my UA-cam Channel if you haven't already. I've got some new ones coming up and you'll want to receive notifications when they post!
