      Gail Yellen Also thanks to you, yesterday I overcame my fear of the double fold binder and finished off a tank top in less time than usual. Thanks again for your great videos.

    The belt loop binder is used just with the Coverstitch. You need the coverhem table to attach the binder to the serger. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips and check out my Pinterest Board "Serge Outside the Seams" for lots of fun ideas!

    Hi Gail. Thanks for your great videos. Can you use knits in the belt loop binder?

    • @GailPatriceDesign
      @GailPatriceDesign  7 років тому +2

      Hi Karen,
      You would have to test your knit fabric with the belt loop binder. If you're working with a very stable knit, it might work well, but a very unstable knit probably won't be successful. I rarely say "never" because often there is a clever "workaround" that will allow an unlikely fabric to work. If you don't need stretch in the binding strip, try the grosgrain ribbon trick. Keep me posted and let me know your results. I love learning too-thanks!

    Thanks for great video. Have you used the belt loop binder to see stretchy fabric. Trying to make straps for sports bra and having technical difficulties

    • @GailPatriceDesign
      @GailPatriceDesign  3 роки тому

      I haven’t used the belt loop binder for stretchy fabrics and not sure if it would be appropriate for sports bras. I haven’t made one. You might want to check articles or an online class on making sports bras for the best materials and techniques. Sorry I am not a expert and don’t want to steer you in a wrong direction, but thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips

    Gail Yellen I cant seem to get the right with for the stitches to cover on the back on the 1 1/2 inch food any help will be appreciated!!! thank you, Brenda

    • @GailPatriceDesign
      @GailPatriceDesign  4 роки тому

      Hi Brenda! Are you using the wide or triple coverstitch? That makes it easier to catch both sides of the fold. Check that your fabric is cut to the correct width also-it might be too narrow. Different fabrics sometimes require a slightly wider width for the stitching to catch both edges.How wide and what fabric are you using? Thanks!

      @@GailPatriceDesign Hi Gail things for getting back to me I am using a 100% quilters cotton and I have my needles in 1 and 3 but it seems like no matter which way I move it I missing one side or the other I've did the fabric at 1 and 5 eights a tick bigger If I do it bigger it seems to flip out more than in I've lined it up which I thought was correct I just got this so I'm new at the 1 and 3 /4 1 5/8 then tad wider I have these smaller 3/4 and I don't have any trouble with that I made that it inch wide and it zooms

    • @GailPatriceDesign
      @GailPatriceDesign  4 роки тому

      @@MKBuddy1 Try 1 3/4"-width. And stitch at a slow to moderate speed so that you can control the binding strip and keep it centered as it feeds through. Cut a length longer than your finished dimension will be and feed it to the back of the presser foot before stitching. The needles and foot need to be raised. Try that and let me know. We'll get this to work!

    Hi I'm new to sewing what is the name of this machine

    • @GailPatriceDesign
      @GailPatriceDesign  6 років тому

      Hi Naresh, I am working on a Baby Lock (brand) Ovation serger and using a belt loop binder attachment. This particular serger does both overlocking and cover/chainstitching. Overlocking is the stitch you see on seams on your ready-to-wear garments. It overlocks the seam while it trims excess seam allowance. A coverstitch is the hem stitch you see on your T-shirt bottom edge as well as the sleeves. A serger is a wonderful companion to a sewing machine. It doesn't totally replace it. Each machine does specific stitches that the other cannot do. Because you're new to sewing, you might want to enroll in my Craftsy class, 40 Techniques Every Sewer Should Know. I honestly think these are a waste of money. Just use an iron and some pins or clamps to keep the folds in place.

      StrahaoftheRace Hi- I love getting perfect results with the binders, but if your method works for you, that’s fine too. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
