    Hey Steve,
Kevin here. I bought the grizzly and the problem about the oil coming out the breather i found what was happening. The carb float needle was stuck open and the gas tank petcock was not operating as well. That caused gas to overflow into the crankcase. It had nowhere to go except to come out the breather. Thanks again for your videos and help!

Hello, glad you like the videos. Those indentations are there by design for clearance. I looked at a brand new oem piston, and it has them too. If they were caused by valve clash from improper timing, there would most likely be only one mark, since there is no reason for both valves to be open at the same time at any point in the 4 stroke cycle. What happened to yours? 2012 is pretty new to need a rebuild.

Hi i have a 450 yamaha atv 2005 kodiak problem the motor when you Turn it by hand, the motor Turn then it lock solid, Turn the other way then lock again, can seize valve cause that problem ???

Stuck open valve, or bent valve can be a cause. Some motors are called interference type engines, and can do this if they are severely out of time, like when a timing chain jumps several teeth, but I think most small engines do not suffer from this.

Wow thanks for a light speed response!! Are the parts still ready available? Its a 1999. What psi compression should i be looking for. Anything else that comes to mind when looking it over to purchase. Thanks again for a great very understandable video. If i purchase it your video will become very helpful. I will definitely become a subscriber.

Kevin Morgan most parts are available. I like babbit's for oem parts. I don't remember the compression specs. Id also suggest you join the grizzy atv forum. lot's of good information there.

Hey Steve Great Video!!! I have a potential Grizzly i thinking of buying. It cuts out when you ease off on the throttle. Also they said something about little filters in small rubber tubes being clogged so the oil was splashing backwards where it shouldn't go. Any ideas what they may be talking about?
    Thanks ,George

Kevin Morgan wow, no idea on the oil issue. crankcase breather tubes maybe??just a guess. As for not idling, might be a clogged pathway in the carburetor. might be an easy fix. I love the old grizzly!

That joker was out of time. Bad indentions on the top of that piston.. Watching this as an instructional video. Fixing to start the rework of my 2012 450.. a lot of the parts looks similar though.

What did u use to clean the cylinder walls?

For light rust on the walls you can use a scotch brite pad. When honing, I use brake cleaner to wash away the grit as I am honing.
