Living the Classical Life is excited to offer something completely different: our first non-classical guest. We filmed Tony Award-nominee Melissa Errico--a celebrated Broadway singer praised by The Wall Street Journal for her benchmark work in the music of Stephen Sondheim--in conversation with her father, Dr. Michael Errico, a surgeon and classically-trained pianist. Melissa performs the last song of the late French legend Michel Legrand, and Sondheim’s “Not While I’m Around” for our cameras, discusses the classical roots of her musical passions and the music she sings, her love of art, growing older within a demanding industry, being a mother and the balance of life.
Title card 1: Melissa Errico's latest album Sondheim Sublime was recently released to critical acclaim, with The Wall Street Journal calling it “The best all-Sondheim album ever recorded.”
Title card 2: In 2019, Melissa co-starred in a musical tribute to the late Michel Legrand in Paris at Le Grand Rex, and performed at a Legrand tribute in London at Royal Festival Hall.
Title card 3: Warner Music recently released a Deluxe Edition of her beloved symphonic album Legrand Affair which she made with Legrand. The special release includes never-before-heard demos with Michel on piano, and the final song he wrote with Alan & Marilyn Bergman before his passing.
Title card 4: In this unusual episode, we asked Dr. Errico and his daughter Melissa to do the "work" for us...
Testing that I am on the live chat. Greetings to everyone on this father's day weekend 2020. I hope our music and our family will bring some comfort and distraction and joy. I know it will be nice to hear my Dad play the piano again... something I miss most during quarantine.
Hi Melissa, Well you passed the test! Glad you did; you have a beautiful voice.

Hello Living the Classical Life, I have been a follower of you show for the past while, and I have a few recommendations as to who you could include on your program, please feel free to disregard any or all of these. Also there is a list of reasons why each are great candidates to be interviewed.
1: Sergei Babayan
Produced some of the best students and plays extremely well.
2: Ivo Pogorelich
A former superstar who lives a very unorthodox lifestyle.
3: Arcadi Volodos
Phenomenal Technique and didn’t start seriously playing until he was 15
4: Vyacheslav Gryaznov
Performing Concert Pianist who has transformed the art of modern transcriptions.
5: Alexander Malofeev
Young Concert Pianist with phenomenal technique and unorthodox but compelling interpretations.
6: Krystian Zimmerman
Extremely famous pianist who has a phenomenal way of speaking and communicating. Probably one of the most beloved Chopin interpreters.
Please let me know what you think about this list Zsolt, and Living The Classical Life.
Thanks very much for your thoughtful suggestions, Vipin Bhat, and thanks for following the show. Maestro Babayan has been at the top of our "Most Wanted" list for years now, and the other names you mention are wonderful choices as well. Right now we're on hiatus, in part because of the pandemic, and in part because of unrelated but serious illness among our little group. We look forward to recording new interviews in the future. Thanks again, Vipin Bhat!
Living the Classical Life No problem! As a young classical musician your show lets me see the perspective of those who are fantastic musicians which have had great careers. Thank you for this show.
I thought that’s Kate Middleton....
