But hopefully this does convince toho to try harder next time to advertise their films in America

I agree. They probably weren’t sure it would do well over here since, as far as I know I haven’t ever seen a Japanese/Toho Godzilla film being advertised in my 35 years of living on tv, in theaters or the radio and it becoming a huge success. Only the American Versions I’ve seen advertised here, 98 and Monsterverse. I’m having some trouble believing the possible reason they didn’t advertise much here is because they were afraid it would do better than the Monsterverse cause if that were true, they’d have advertised much more than they did with confidence. The fact they did this in a “modest way” really shows how special and spectacular of movie it is and it still was able to achieve the success it did with our much advertising here. It took just over a week or so after the main US release fro my local theater to get Minus One. I had a couple of friends to go see it on opening night (I couldn't because i had work) and they said the theater was nearly packed. That's a first in a long time anywhere in my area. I went to go see it on Sunday evening following after release when i had the day off of work. The weather wasn't exactly pleasant at that time (heavy rain all day long) but the theater room it was playing in still had about 1/3/ of the seats with butts in them Mine included. Now THAT was impressive. I will try and go see it again before the movie pulls out because it was that good.
I want and need this movie to continuing on succeeding in every way. I can't wait to see it again this weekend. The movie has been on my mind a lot since I first watched it.
I’ve seen it three times, and would gladly see it again but movies are expensive. I saw it twice in imax and once in Dolby. I did notice a few people that had seen the film more than once bringing their families or people they convinced to see it. I personally took my Mom the first time and she loved it so much she wanted to see it again and we got my dad to come the next time. It seems word of mouth is giving the film the legs it has at the moment
I just seen it for the second time, and I'm so glad that the film is still holding strong. The story and the music score is still as amazing as the first time. I really hope GM1 has another fantastic weekend.
Godzilla Minus One is not just a great Godzilla movie but a great movie in general! I’m so happy that it’s doing so well in U.S. Box office. I hope it continues to do well.
Imagine if Godzilla-1 got a wide release. Sadly no screening announcement yet here in Southeast Asia, probably until 2024. But I'm happy nonetheless that it's has positive reactions and is doing really well in its earnings.
Japanese entertainment is quite famous and entrenched in ASEAN already! The film will easily earn MILLIONS in the region, especially with the great buzz it is generating among viewers!
Awesome movie and I don't think the "no dubs" hurts it. I actually think it helps. The actors killed it and dubs often... land flat. Hearing the emotion while reading the text added alot to the film for me. Also the film makers on a God tier level of genius had almost no lines of dialog during Godzilla shots so you can soak in those atomic breaths without having to take your eyes away to read text.
this movie did the original score such a big justice. They tweeked it in a way it's more impactful for the modern era of film making and I just felt everything from it
I think this film will have good legs. Based on the theaters in my area, a couple days ago, there was only one showing scheduled for tomorrow. Now, there are 5 showings tomorrow in one of the theaters. Looking at the seat availability, none of them are half full, but there's more people than I would expect.
One thing that nobody mentions is that while audiences in the U.S, will give a wide berth to even the best foreign production because they dont want to make an effort to read subtitles, world audiences dont have the same problem because they are already used to see most of their movies with subtitles as they usually come in lenguages that are foreign to them, English, French, Chinese, Japanese, indian, etc. So we can assume GMO will be a greater international hit than in North America.
Also, the rest of the Anglo world speaks English but didn't get the film until the 15th. Thus that wad 2 weeks for Americans to communicate and advertise for the Brits and Aussies, etc
Been a Godzilla fan since watching creature double feature in the 70’s (Boston 56) and in my opinion, Shin Godzilla can’t hold a candle to Minus One. Not only is this the best Godzilla film ever made, this is a modern day Jaws… and Jaws is my favorite movie of all time Minus One is also in my top 50 movies of all time, and I’ve seen a ton of movies the past 55 years
I always thought that Godzilla was "cool" like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park or a superhero. I enjoyed the movies, but that's about it. Minus One may be one of the best movies I've seen in years.
D MAN…..thank you for touching on the subject of an English dubbed version of -1. I went to see it and it was very difficult. I am legally blind but I do have some vision. I have been a “G” fan since 1961. What I was able to see I absolutely loved but I definitely missed out on a lot so I too am hoping that the DVD and/digital versions have that option. No matter what happens, you are my hero including us fans who are visually impaired!👍🏾👍🏾❤️
I had no idea this movie was coming out until Saturday: 12.2.23 . Somebody told me. I went and saw it the same day!!! I was afraid if I didn't come I wouldn't be able to see it.
I don’t think Toho was going to believe American audience would come out for this. I think it was smart not too, plus word of mouth now is doing it for them
I actually saw the trailer for this movie's release in American a day or two before I went to Florida for vacation. I saw this film with my grandmother last Sunday and she actually liked it too. As for me... HOLY HELLS BELLS is this film amazing! The music, the Big G's appearances, and especially the human drama is the best I've seen out of a Godzilla film. And this is THE first Godzilla film I saw that in theaters that has Japanese dialog with subtitles.
I want to add one more perspective to your thoughts on the $ 15 million budget. The writer/ director also understands the ins and outs of vfx. Having the one in charge being able to communicate vision and execution effectively is also cost efficient. How many of us have seen money flushed away because our boss has zero clue about how the job should be done?
I'm my theatre Godzilla took the IMAX screen, which was awesome to watch on, and has 2 times for this weekend on IMAX as well. Love this movie and I plan to watch it again.
I really enjoyed the Japanese dialog with subtitles. It was easy enough to read the subtitles and still absorb the action. I absolutely think dubbed versions detract from the film.
I'm gonna rewatch Minus One a third time this Sunday! I'm so happy it's doing so well! Plus, the fact that here in Italy its distribution has been expanded by another week (just like in the US) speaks volumes of how much people are loving it and want to watch it without a strict deadline of six days! And it's a big deal,in my country,Godzilla isn't that popular, meaning that (besides being known as a radioactive monster that attacks Japan and its cities and fights other monsters) it's low-regarded as dumb B-movie,sometimes ridiculized even,so I really hope that Minus One will help change this view of the character and the genre as a whole
@@penguinsforever1609 it didn't perform particularly well at the Italian box office unfortunately, only 147 thousand Euros (160 thousand $),which matches my experience in theatre: in both my three viewing, the audience never reached 20 people,me and whoever was with me included, and my cinema only had one showing per day! what do you mean it won't surpass Shin Godzilla? Godzilla Minus One hasn't even hit the Latin American cinemas yet, Remember that Mexico and Chile alone hold 1/3 of the most important box office debuts and it won't be hitting Cinemas till the 28th Of December. We are super pumped and it's heavily advertised here in México, I know alot of people that are going once the debut hits and there's ALOT of Spanish speaking UA-camrs talking about it.
I don't get why dubs are so special everywhere. Here in Germany it was just a given that it would get a dub from A-list voice actors. The same voice actors who do voices for Hollywood movies, TV series, anime, video games. It's just expected. And the dub was great.
The word of mouth is extremely strong with this movie, I hope it gets extended for just one more weekend so it can stay in theaders for 3 weeks in total.
I LOVED Minus One but that won’t keep me from returning to the MonsterVerse. To me, they’re just two very different iterations that bring me different things. I am there for Godzilla in his many forms.
You could think of the Monsterverse as a modern version of the later Showa era multi-monster smackdowns with crazy science fiction plots. I'm not nearly as fond of the Monsterverse, myself, but stepping back a bit, as a fan, having all that running at the same time that Toho is putting out a thoughtful Godzilla drama in the spirit of the 1954 original is an embarrassment of riches.
I've seen it twice in Imax on non movie going nights. On Monday and again today on Thursday night. 6:00 showings . Each showing was completed sold out which is insane to me. I saw FNAF opening night and I was the only person in the theater. If that doesn't say something, idk what does
Ngl hearing how well godzilla did, being a lifelong fan from original gojira to modern day and knowinf they spanked hollywood 5% of the budget, and seeing how perfectly developed the story was, on grave for fireflies level. It gives me hope for our era not being completely lost. Brings a tear to my eye.
There is such good word of mouth I honestly would be disappointed if its second week totals aren't close to the first week in the US. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed the first week totals because everyone I know that has seen the movie wants to go back to watch it again. As for the movie being subbed. I get the argument that some people prefer a dub over sub and I would be full of it if I said I didn't sometimes watch movies in dub when I'm lazy to read the subtitles. But honestly- Japanese actors usually are so good you're denying yourself some of the experience if you go with a dub and you don't need it.
When G-1 gets it's Oscar nomination for Best Picture they need to do another wide release before putting it out on 4K. I saw G-1 for a second time tonight. Going to see it at least one more time before it leaves next week.
Success!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😍🔥🔥🔥. 16:44 I disagree I had a few kids in my theater and they managed to keep up with the subtitles and have a great time with the movie.
I've seen it twice because the first time I couldn't stop thinking about it. The characters were so good. Just a great movie, and the subtitles weren't an issue at all. I'm not a snob but seeing this move dubbed would hurt it.
AT LAST,A TRUE CLASSIC GODZILLA movie,NO cast of countless Giant combatants, JUST the the main BIG GUY as in the original film returning him to his BAD self.Great story, great acting and tho I've never been enamored with CGI the effects here,I was for once blown away.FOUR very enthusiastic Stars,I must say,it's kind of making me dread Kong Vs. GODZILLA..sadly,tho I did appreciate the first round, with the BIG guy besting that ape overall
It's a sub-titled movie, so there was always going to be a ceiling on this one. It was never going to be one of the biggest movies of the year outside of Japan. That said, it did do extremely well for its budget, and they're wisely extending the run, but don't expect Hollywood to take much notice of it as it made peanuts compared to Barbie and Oppenheimer. It's like that scene in Casino where they trick the whale into staying another day after he wins big. He bets small for a while, but every time he wins a hand, he doesn't see the money he won, but the money he didn't win by betting big... and he's soon back to betting big and loses all his winnings.
Already seen it 4 times, but I assume you as a primarily Godzilla channel have seen it more. Though I’m probably gonna rack up another 3-4 viewings before it’s out of theaters 😁
If Toho had licensed it to a third party release for the US, it wouldn't be Funimation, since they are no longer around. It would have been Crunchyroll or possibly another studio. Hopefully we can get a physical release at some point, since the anime trilogy and Singular Point hasn't had any here yet, but it is likely because Netflix rarely releases anything physically, especially animated.
Being from gen x im not surprised at this movies success at all. Godzilla has been a cult favorite for decades and a lot of Americans did not approve of how Godzilla has been done here in the states . Toho has always understood this character better than us and minus one proves that again. Long live the lizard...
Mad respect for bringing up the budget in a realistic light. Everyone is blindly praising it and comparing it to hollywood, including myself, so to hear someone speak about the ups and downs of that is pretty great.

@@MrAutobot390 DVD 📀 Codes. It’s somewhat complicated. European DVDs 📀 are PAL & will not work in a NTSC DVD 📀 Player that’s for North America, Central & South America. I think Japan 🇯🇵 is NTSC.
honestly feelin this old school big G vibe was so refreshing after all of the monster verse movies.
I just saw Godzilla minus 1 today ! I loved it !!!
Godzilla Final Wars' budget was 20 million dollars. Look how much Toho has learned in that time.
I searched, and found that GFW cost ¥1.9 billion.
At the current rate, it would be 13 million dollars.
I just seen it for the second time, and I'm so glad that the film is still holding strong. The story and the music score is still as amazing as the first time. I really hope GM1 has another fantastic weekend.
I saw it last night in IMAX AMC Lincoln Square 13. Full house. It was phenomenal!! Everyone was clapping at the end.
Godzilla Minus One is not just a great Godzilla movie but a great movie in general! I’m so happy that it’s doing so well in U.S. Box office. I hope it continues to do well.
this movie has done the impossible.
A) normies love it and
B) made viewers care about the human characters in a G movie.
As a long time Godzilla fan, taking the good and the bad, Godzilla -1 is phenomenal IMHO.
All I got to say is anyone who has the opportunity to see this movie in 4d. DO IT!!! This was like the coolest/scariest movie for a 4d theater to show
Imagine if Godzilla-1 got a wide release.
I just went yesterday and the theater was packed.
this movie did the original score such a big justice.
Not only is this the best Godzilla film ever made, this is a modern day Jaws… and Jaws is my favorite movie of all time
Minus One is also in my top 50 movies of all time, and I’ve seen a ton of movies the past 55 years
I always thought that Godzilla was "cool" like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park or a superhero.
Great movie and it’s great that Godzilla is in Japanese because it really SHOULD be in japanese
The actors did a very good job.
I'm definitely disappointed by the lack of advertising in the U.S. for this movie. I didn't see not one ad or trailer for it either on TV or YT ads.
I saw the movie yesterday and there were scenes that left me speechless
I’ve yet to see an even remotely negative comment anywhere. I love this movie
The only movie I'm willing to pay to watch in theater
I took 14 people to see it on the first, so I've done my part.
I believe the true cost is closer to 10 million.
We need to call out local theaters and ask for more Imax screenings!!
Just got back from seeing the film, my first Toho Godzilla film. Loved every second of it, hope they make a sequel.
Great movie. Best Godzilla movie I’ve seen. Bravo!
I'm my theatre Godzilla took the IMAX screen, which was awesome to watch on, and has 2 times for this weekend on IMAX as well. Love this movie and I plan to watch it again.
I saw this film opening Friday. It reminded me of the 1st Godzilla. Totally awesome!
I really enjoyed the Japanese dialog with subtitles. It was easy enough to read the subtitles and still absorb the action. I absolutely think dubbed versions detract from the film.
If we don’t get a blu ray of this I will be the saddest little boy in the world.
Thanks for commenting. I was wondering how Minus One was doing in other countries. I hope others come out to comment and share their experience.
@@penguinsforever1609 it didn't perform particularly well at the Italian box office unfortunately, only 147 thousand Euros (160 thousand $),which matches my experience in theatre:
in both my three viewing, the audience never reached 20 people,me and whoever was with me included, and my cinema only had one showing per day!
Although I know from my friend that lives in North Italy that the theatre he went to was full in both his viewings
@@gianmarcozampella5138 That’s too bad that your cinema wasn’t full. Sometimes having a full audience adds a certain atmosphere to a movie. (Hope the audience enjoyed the movie). I am looking forward to watching G -1, I haven’t been interested in going to a theater for a long time but this looks sooo good. Anyways, I read or heard somewhere that the company was not planning on streaming this later on, so I need to see this ASAP just in case I can’t get a hold of it later.
-1.0 is a masterpiece. Best movie of the year.
I’ve seen it 3 times already. It’s so good!!
It makes me so fucking giddy and happy that a GODZILLA movie is doing well and is being received so good by everyone almost unanimously. Truely makes me happy to actually see people I never thought would even treat a Godzilla movie as a serious film, treat it as such. Godzilla fans…we are finally being taken seriously ✊💪🏻
I wish GODZILLA 1985 did well.
If the Oscars want to be relevant again, this film should definitely win a few. And they can’t use “it’s too white” excuse this time. 😂
I went on a Sat evening in Sacramento CA and the theater was packed
I hope this bodes well for more Godzilla movies😊
what do you mean it won't surpass Shin Godzilla? Godzilla Minus One hasn't even hit the Latin American cinemas yet, Remember that Mexico and Chile alone hold 1/3 of the most important box office debuts and it won't be hitting Cinemas till the 28th Of December.
We are super pumped and it's heavily advertised here in México, I know alot of people that are going once the debut hits and there's ALOT of Spanish speaking UA-camrs talking about it.
this movie is getting AMAZING REVIEWS
I don't get why dubs are so special everywhere. Here in Germany it was just a given that it would get a dub from A-list voice actors. The same voice actors who do voices for Hollywood movies, TV series, anime, video games. It's just expected. And the dub was great.
The word of mouth is extremely strong with this movie, I hope it gets extended for just one more weekend so it can stay in theaders for 3 weeks in total.
As of now it is staying til December 14 but could extend its run if numbers do well this upcoming weekend
@@brandondavis3431 We got to keep pushing the word of mouth man.
Love your channel bro
3 showings per day through next week and I live in South Georgia in the middle of nowhere!!! Hahaha
I love the movie and I hope it performs well.
It looks like Takahashi insinuated it was less than 15mill
When G-1 gets it's Oscar nomination for Best Picture they need to do another wide release before putting it out on 4K. I saw G-1 for a second time tonight. Going to see it at least one more time before it leaves next week.
honestly, i would be surprised if G-1 even gets nominated, considering it IS the oscars, after all.
I dont think that Godzilla could get nominated due to the oscars new diversity rules. At least for best picture, “maybe” a nod as best foreign film
@@jeebay5188Parasite ring a bell?
Success!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😍🔥🔥🔥. 16:44 I disagree I had a few kids in my theater and they managed to keep up with the subtitles and have a great time with the movie.
The King has returned with style, a magnificent film!!
This movie hasn't even aired yet in my country (Indonesia) and hopefully it will 😢 I will definitely gonna see it in theater once it air 🎉
Was sold out at my showing on 12/9 Saturday night.
One of the best movie of 2023.
Godzilla-1.0 is a GODZILLA SIZED HIT
I saw it Monday and I"m going to go see it again
Revenue went up this week, not down...
It did go down, it just held incredibly well!
@@DMan1954I think he meant day by day not by weekend
Oscar goes to Godzilla!
I watched this movie twice already, lol. It’s an awesome film
How are you surprised that godzilla beat wish knowing the state of Disney right now?
It definitely looked like a good homage to the 1954 an looked great graphically! Probably the best outside of the king of monsters and Kong series
Godzilla is Toho's baby after all! 😊
We just saw it. It's probably the best godzilla movie ever.
Mad respect for bringing up the budget in a realistic light. Everyone is blindly praising it and comparing it to hollywood, including myself, so to hear someone speak about the ups and downs of that is pretty great.
I’ve gotten endless backlash for it. So I appreciate you!
@@DMan1954 For sure man, it makes people feel all warm and fuzzy to see such a low budget. Threatening that with a bit of reality is bound to cause an upset.
