Nice video. I got to witness a foam test at a military plane hangar a few years back. It’s pretty impressive. On an annual basis I get to go flow some foam on the helipad of a hospital. Nothing crazy. It has two osculating cannons that operate off the Venturi effect and we just top off the cannon tanks when we’re done. Pretty cool nonetheless. I love our work. Especially doing service and day work. Always something different.

I love it too. With all the different systems, it never gets old. Thanks for the comment.

How do they clean up after the test. I assume they just wash it down with water? That must take some time.

Couldn’t imagine what that system cost! Cool part of the job watching the foam! Thanks for the content.

Because the diaphragm is held closed by city water pressure, is there a world where a water main break on the street with a loss of pressure ends up opening that diaphragm?
I guess there would be less pressure in that situation so it might not be the end of the world

Good question. There is a check valve that prevents the water pressure from coming off of the diaphragm. As you stated at the end, there wouldn’t be any water pressure anyways. However, when the water pressure came back, if the diaphragm didn’t fill fast enough then it could be a problem. The backflow preventers on the water main would prevent any water pressure from going back into the water mains so it’s a very unlikely scenario. Thanks for the question.

They used floor scrubbing machines you drive around and a defoaming solution. The city didn’t want it going down the drains so they had to use tanks and haul it off. It’s safe to go into the sewer system, but the city still didn’t want it going into the drains. Thanks for the comment.

I've seen that so many times especially at military locations. Technically it was safe to go in the drains but people just panic so like you said we had to bring in tanks to fill up all the waste water and foam, also super expensive!!@@FireSprinklerTech

after the actual foam test, we would shut the foam tanks off and just let the water wash everything down. The water can still keep going out of the deluge system into the hanger and wash the foam away.
