This is the first time I’ve seen a video from this channel and I’m so impressed. Fantastic material and I was gripped. The production quality is amazing and felt professional, I couldn’t look away like I was watching a documentary on HBO max. I NEVER comment on UA-cam videos but this absolutely deserves it
Summoning salt is that youtuber that I like to look at when it's late at night while eating or just when I'm feeling bored. His videos come out at the perfect time I tell you!
Yep! Late night, Saturday, humid summer night with my birthday around the corner, and distant memories haunting me. Summoning salt helps me find the beauty in it all
When I reach the end of each one of these videos, I tear up a bit because it really hits me how amazing the internet can be. It brought together all of these people for one common goal, and that's to speedrun a golfing game.
In the words of the great Jon Bois: "There are no dull stories. People are full of wonder. No matter how you study our history you will always, always find it."
Something changes in your brain when you get into speed running. Before, I would have been like "Oh ok, I don't really get what the big deal is, but this is kinda cool" Now, when he said "Krauss was an incredible 33 seconds ahead" I put down my coffee and said "Jesus christ" out loud as if I'd just seen the 1969 moon landing.
I feel ya. Never cared all that much for speedrunning, but then I discovered Summoning Salt and have been much more interested in it ever since. Pretty fascinating stuff
Honestly, even just doing time trial modes in games like CTRNF and Mario Kart 8 have made me appreciate speedrunners a lot more and how difficult it can be to even get a second ahead.
@@jenschneider305 is huge when the game's times are have actually been challenged a lot and such. When you shave 33 seconds of a game that came out the week before... its not the same as when you do it on a game that came out at least a couple of months ago. Not saying you shouldn't feel accomplished, but its not as impressive from a watcher's perspective
That song at the end ‘we’re finally landing’ is so nostalgic for no reason, these speed run videos just hold so much value to me, especially the mariokart wii one
He uses that song's beat drop with such grace. It's really cathartic when someone does something monumental and just realizes it right as the drums and bass kick in because it puts you directly in the energy of the moment. That's what defines his videos for me honestly. All's said it's cool that he's supporting other creators by letting them make music for his videos. I just wish he'd stick to that perfect formula more often.
At first I was like: Is this a joke? By the end I'm like: Of course dude it's summoning salt, he could make a video on people speed reading the phone book and I'd probably watch it
He could probably make a video of the wr for fastest time to read dictionary amd I would still probably watch it. He turn anything boring into some sort of enjoyable video

Also different categories at the start: "I'll be focusing on 100% (read every word) as that was the original category." And Salt includes himself at the end: "Szilen and I were on pace to a 8 hour run..."
Everyone needs a friend like Krause’ guy who is just enthusiastic about your hobbies and is willing to help out, even if they don’t directly participate.
Could you imagine an actual golf speed run? A quick google says the average course is around 6,600 yards long so you’d basically be running a 5k (actually it’s almost exactly 6k) while golfing. Overall score would be some function of time and strokes. It’d be like Biathlon, but with golf! Times of well under an hour for 18 holes should be possible, and pros would probably be under half an hour. This is something I didn’t know I needed in my life
@@mrb692 Simple, do it running (and hauling the clubs), and for each difference you take a small penalty lap, like 100 meter or so. This way it is a time based sport, where the golfing is the side activity. Probably would be better with some circle like option, 5-6 place to golf, with a 1000 meter apart on a circle, like 6 place on a 800 meter circle, you do a full round and some for the first place, one more full round and more the second, etc, the penalty lap is inside, the golf are outside, total run is around 10K, 6 lap and one more for the extra bits, some for the golfing part (200-500 per hole), and whatever penalty you get. Under 30 min for good run, 60-90 min for recreational sport.
Speedrunning is kinda interesting, but I don't really have the time to look into the billion speedrun-categories and their progresses in order to get a full picture to even understand them. Your videos really give me the ability to appreciate a sport thats hard to follow on my own. Thanks for that. You are really filling a gap here.
This, I enjoy games but to put thousands of hours into a single game? Like wow I can't enjoy a game that much besides Gmod which I have 2,231 hours in but with speed running your skipping just so much of a game I don't know I like watching it but fuck I would rather play through a game start to finish.
Anon Anon There are plenty of games with 100% speedrun categories! These videos tend to focus on Any% runs which do a lot of skipping, but 100% runs may be more your thing. Speedrunning a game doesn't remove you from the experience like it think it does - if anything, you dive deeper into the game and it's mechanics than you ever could just playing casually. Give it a shot sometime with a game you've played so much you know like the back of your hand - you'll be surprised what you learn and the new life you can breathe into it trying to get your time better.

When “HOME - We’re Finally Landing” kicks in during a Summoning Salt video, you know it’s gonna be good.

I like how dramatic he made Tyler getting a capture card. Funniest thing I've seen in these videos
yeah, it made me pause the video because I had to laugh so hard... had me in stitches XD

It matters how you say it, how much love and effort you put in, not how difficult the work is.

@@PirateReviewer It was less of a joke and more of a PogChamp moment. I was fucking popping off when he said that.
This has to be what IRL golf fans see when they’re watching golf
Something changes in your brain when you get into speed running.
Before, I would have been like "Oh ok, I don't really get what the big deal is, but this is kinda cool"
Now, when he said "Krauss was an incredible 33 seconds ahead" I put down my coffee and said "Jesus christ" out loud as if I'd just seen the 1969 moon landing.
That's awesome.
To shave 33 seconds off any world record is HUGE
@@jenschneider305 is huge when the game's times are have actually been challenged a lot and such. When you shave 33 seconds of a game that came out the week before... its not the same as when you do it on a game that came out at least a couple of months ago. Not saying you shouldn't feel accomplished, but its not as impressive from a watcher's perspective

Guito93 I read your comment right after he said that!
Just came to see the comments after that, hahaha. I even had to rewind since I couldn't believe it xD
That song at the end ‘we’re finally landing’ is so nostalgic for no reason, these speed run videos just hold so much value to me, especially the mariokart wii one
I was worried that the classic song (Home - We’re Finally Landing) wouldn’t be in it. Thank goodness for the ending!
It’s what defines Summoning Salt videos, isn’t it?
He uses that song's beat drop with such grace. It's really cathartic when someone does something monumental and just realizes it right as the drums and bass kick in because it puts you directly in the energy of the moment. That's what defines his videos for me honestly. All's said it's cool that he's supporting other creators by letting them make music for his videos. I just wish he'd stick to that perfect formula more often.
It's always at the end, that's how you know it's the end.
I knew from the start it was in the vid when i saw Home in the music credits :P
Sometimes its not there but it always makes me smile when it is.

It's sad reading the comments mid video ruined the joke
At first I was like: Is this a joke?
By the end I'm like: Of course dude it's summoning salt, he could make a video on people speed reading the phone book and I'd probably watch it
He could probably make a video of the wr for fastest time to read dictionary amd I would still probably watch it. He turn anything boring into some sort of enjoyable video

Golfing community: slow play is ruining the game, rounds take over 4 hours now.
Speed runners: allow us to introduce ourselves.
Is the golfing community actually saying that?
@Roger Dodger no cart really?
Seems odd.
This is something I didn’t know I needed in my life
@@mrb692 gold would finally be worth watching.
12 minutes would have to wait..... Until later that same day

Your videos really give me the ability to appreciate a sport thats hard to follow on my own.
Thanks for that. You are really filling a gap here.
Well said :*)
@@0Synergy these guys have usually beaten said game countless times the 'normal way' in the first place. It's that love for the game that usually pushes them to play for records
