I'm a 36 yo mountain biker but I found a skatepark on a ride one day with lots of different sized quarters. Thought it looked so fun so I got a BMX off marketplace, fixed it up real nice, and headed down. After an hour I really started building skills and gaining confidence until I went too fast into a quarter, panicked, & ditched the bike... I'm determined to head back and catch some air after this vid thank you
Yo you don’t need air yet. If you just approach it with speed and don’t move your arms the bike will keep going past there. It takes no skill to ride out
This video is so old and so short and still the most helpful one around. I never thought about going sideways first, I always try and go straight on and 180 and it just freaks me the fuck out, but that's what every video said to do first. His sideways small rotation looked so much easier to get comfortable with
U know what. Im kinda scared of going over the coping. I can go straight up a quarter and do a 180 and go straight back down but not over the coping. But tomorrow.. Im gonna ride some bowl and Im gonna try to just send a 180 over the coping
I wanted tips on waiting for your rear tire to hit but he didn't even talk about it. I have a bad habit of hopping earlier so I case often and can't go much higher than 2-3 ft above coping
I'm left foot forward, butdo flat ground 180's to my left, but when i'm practicing airing quarters, i go right.... am i dumb? it just feels safer and more natural.. i've been riding for about a year, and skateboarding for 12+ years. on a board riding regular(left foot in front), i 180 to my right. I feel weird.
Its never a bad idea to learn both ways but generally speaking, finding the easiest side and sticking to it at first will help you perfect it better than randomly spinning anyway and not having perfect control. Im left foot forward and spin to the right. But you do you
I appreciate Gary's advice but bunnyhopping should never be part of airing a quarterpipe. Everyone needs to look up Etnies youtube channel and search for Tom Dugan's airing how-to.
the learning curve on airs is so crazy. once you get past that initial fear of both tires over the coping, the rest comes naturally
I had nasty frash at 38 and our park was closed for like 2 years I'm 40 and want to learn to properly air so I get ya

I haven’t thought about “no fear” in years. That was a throwback

best help vid hands down, you explained it PERFECT, and the camera work is SPOT ON
I just taught myself disasters so I know somewhat how it feels to overshoot the coping and learn control. This video will help though.
every time my front tire gets over the coping I freak out.

i was trying them for ages i just cant get myself to fly up it way to scared
That means ur just plain old shit
@@ross8625 not everyone has a fucking joyride 150 in his area.

Awesowm video and explanation Gary thanks!
This and the Tommy D tutorial are the best for airs
This is probably the best explained. Thanks!!!
The Ride BMX logo looks like Steams(valvE) logo but backwards
Mutterbilk Correction: Steam's logo looks like our logo, but backwards.
Stitch up
Ride BMX or is it the steam logo and we only see it thru a mirror
By any means run it up

Wow I can't air out my local park cuz of the frikin quater pipes are more like dirt jumps !!!!!!
Sounds fun.

can i post my video of doing the spine at farmington nm skatepark?
I really need to learn to do this better. I suck at airing.
THATS MLK PARK I USED TO RIDE that PARK LIKE CRAZY!
How do you get your back wheel to pop off the coping, my back wheel leaves the ground like a foot before the coping and I still go above coping
wait for your front wheel to pop off the pop the back out
jack thebmxer yeah, I've got it now haha
So I'm left foot forward and air to my left about 3 ft high so I'm super good then? Haha
every time I try to air a more shallow quarter like a 6 foot or something I case :(
Anyone swap pedal position for turning to their opposite direction that normally feel comfortable with ?
I'm left foot forward, butdo flat ground 180's to my left, but when i'm practicing airing quarters, i go right.... am i dumb? it just feels safer and more natural.. i've been riding for about a year, and skateboarding for 12+ years. on a board riding regular(left foot in front), i 180 to my right. I feel weird.
Do you. You'll probably be able to do a bunch of weird tricks once you get more comfortable...

My left ear thanks you
I guess I need to learn how to do a 180 first.
nevermind.
Adam Oliva nevermind
Awsome
I'm afraid of coping because on my quarterpipe it's really sticking out of the ramp
***** you should be alright for the coping side you just need to commit
thanks SC Bmx It took a week to get it without being afraid,it was long time ago when I wrote this comment ;)
How good are you now
@@incog What a blast from the past this is. I got my drivers licence and sold the bike. BMX days were the best.
Comments are coming
FIRST!!!! and this is a good how to thx
i am left foot forward and i rotate to the left.. Do i need to learn to rotate to the right or change footposition?
+Zimfox no its the same
No. Do what feels correct and when you have mastered it I recommend you learn to turn to the right
doesnt mattet

ride bmx is out of business
this is the one thing i can’t do i’ve crashed on every attempt
Fuck... I’m stuck in this trick😭😭😭

smooth aIIoy you have no sense, the fact that sunday has a lifetime warranty on SOME parts doesn't make them better than fit
