It would go for way more, he has an original 1959 Les Paul and those sell anywhere between 250k to 500k just because Gibson didn't sell too many 1959s so they are rare, you add to that the Billy gibbons factor and it could definitely reach the million bucks
Burke is the guy interviewing Billy. Burke invited me to a birthday jam session sometime in the mid 80s when no one else would give me a chance. He is one heck of a guy and a superb guitar player, as am I.
The guy at Fender playing briefly is getting a PHENOMENAL tone out of that Strat! That and the signature tone of the subject of this video are somewhere in my top three, I think:S:D
One thing I dont get about this interview is that every time the interviewer asks about a specific guitar from BFG's collection, they show a clip of him playing something completely different. For instance at 2:57 BFG mentions his Fender Esquire and they show a clip of him playing a strat on Gimme All Your Lovin'. Then at 4:29 the subject is the hallowed Pearly Gates, and the video they show is the GOD awful song Sleeping Bag and BFG's furry Custom Gibson Explorer. Pretty rediculous, huh?
Agreed, I just used RS as a convenient reference. I know Guitar Player and Guitar World have issued 'greatest' lists based on subscriber votes and while those are also biased in a variety of ways, I'd still trust the list voted on by people who know how to hold a pick over the art snobs at RS. BTW, I'd like to see Enda post him playing some of Billy's material just to show us how easy it is. I've been playing 30 years and can attest Billy makes it look easy, but it ain't.
The only thing Mr. Gibbons does better than play guitar is bullshit. He is an immense talent. I believe one of the best ever. He sounds good because he works at it. Endless hours of practice. He would sound great through a Chinese tele plugged in a out house. He has worked at for years. Adding mojo just raises the prices.
if anyone comes close to any of the old guys like Robert Johnson or Elmore James, its Billy Gibbons. Even Slash who is an outstanding guitarist, does not come close to Billy Gibbons
Interesting but the songs interspersed throughout the interview come from the worst musical period of ZZ Top. Eliminator had popular tunes thanks to MTV but the synthesizer period was just awful imo. Just give me the first 7 albums from their catalog and that's all I need
I respectfully disagree Billy your pinch harmonics and chording tone with heavy gauge strings was much more powerful during those early days you should of stuck to 11 gauge strings not those little girl 8s!
@@seti111 He's right. Check out the bootlegs from the 70s, sound is way punchier than nowadays compressed sounding stuff. At the same time, Billy's 65 now... He earned the right to let off a little.
I'm sure Billy's guitar would go for half a million. What makes them all good is he plays them great. An inspiration over the years
It would go for way more, he has an original 1959 Les Paul and those sell anywhere between 250k to 500k just because Gibson didn't sell too many 1959s so they are rare, you add to that the Billy gibbons factor and it could definitely reach the million bucks
he's just everything. polite, gentleman and a true guitar player with style, character and unique touch for a note.
"Without sacrificing the tonal integrity.." got to love this guy!
A Great player........great bluesman....a very nice man and always the coolest guy in the room.
Burke is the guy interviewing Billy. Burke invited me to a birthday jam session sometime in the mid 80s when no one else would give me a chance. He is one heck of a guy and a superb guitar player, as am I.
"As am I"
And a modest one at that, eh?
@DEA-I-H FVCK DES-I-ROYER - seriously? Did he die?
Billy Gibbons is King of the pinch harmonic!
Next to Jimmy Page, my favorite guitarist. I spent many a happy hour working on learning ZZ TOP tunes on my guitar. Love Billy.
I saw ZZ Top at Wembley and I was in ore, gasm!!!
Billy is one of the best!!!!! Just Got Paid , killer guitar riffs!!!!
Saw him at the Biltmore Estate a few weeks ago playing a Fender the whole night, and killing it.
Anyone who can grow a beard like that is a legend.
Billy you Rock. lmL
Anyone else watched the Netflix special? Was great!
Great, Great Billy!!!
Great Interview
It don't get much more badass than zz top!

yobhsiFehT I was looking at the JMP’s in the back haha

I think the story goes that Hendrix was so impressed with Billy during a tour he gave him one of his strats at the end of the tour.
" CHANGES " At 2 : 00 ...lol...STAGES is the real title from ZZ Top's Afterburner...
the first song is called Stages, not changing
"And here is what he had to say:" "Have Mercy..."
amazing guitarist, with an amazing beard... what more could you want?
They're all different and they're all good-tell it Rev

Yep, indeed...But I'd like to see him play more in this video...!!
Still the coolest guy ever
RIP Burke Wallace 8-20
Why they stop when he's doing the solo blues at the end on the Tele??
they should have cast him as dumbledore in Harry Potter, because his beard, and playing are magic
Gimli rocks!
LOL
very cool : )
Thank you! I noticed that shyte too!
holy shit am i dreaming? i saw pictures of gibbons w/o his beard.
He's so cool ... :)
il più grande di sempre,il mio mito
nice
@WisdomVendor
Billy Gibbons takes most guitarists back to school
what guitar does he play? its a type of gibson, bit i cant find which one
I have always thought Bryan May was over rated, still do. Billy is definitely not even in the same category, he's much better.
I wonder how long it took him to get "The Beard" that long?
20-24 months
@zzfanhun Two of my faves.
Pearly Gates is a LP Standard. In this vid on 4.23 the head of a LP Custom is shown. What up with that ??????
@slasher7555 What are you, 12? He didn't grow it until 1980, ZZ Top had a whole dang career before that date.
thick strings mean thicker sound, heavy is an ATTITUDE.
i would do everything to be his guitar, or his beard.
@ 4.25 they show a guitar presenting it as the pearly gate.. not the correct guitar
haha! "B.B king pulled me aside and said"... wow.... imagine that......
Billy was Jimi Hendrixs' favorite guitarist
@WisdomVendor he calls it "squankin"
@zzfanhun From what I understand May was somewhat influenced by Gibbons, either way they both rock.
@SconeMason YES!, he does, but few would know what he means ! lol
good lord
He currently plays 7's...except he keeps 8's for slide. This is according to his guitar tech.
i sometimes wish that i had been born earlier
@slasher7555 ease up, junior, I was just havin' fun with ya. Out my way they call it having a sense of humor.
@johngoo343 i'm not familiar with roy, but I will be soon :)

Hall and Oates!
@42Victim "and they're all good"
heard a bad pickup selector switch at the end of the vid
DAVID LIBIDO?
At 4.46 that guitar with the 'grind' sticker is a Tokai. No really it is!
if anyone comes close to any of the old guys like Robert Johnson or Elmore James, its Billy Gibbons. Even Slash who is an outstanding guitarist, does not come close to Billy Gibbons
holy crap, maybe he use .006 custom made...
BB King was
Paid $250 for Pearly, nice investment.............
i can't believe it
>>not the correct guitar
Heck, they didn't even get the song title "Stages" correct!
Always wondered why the reverend Billy G always refers to himself as "we" ???
zz top
he is no bullshit guy
Ummm... no. Rolling Stones mag has him at #32 on their greatest guitar player list. You have a strange definition of 'average'.
Stages, not changes. 1.57 lol
he is no bullshit guy i
The interviewers are way to over rehearsed in the beginning.
haaa
how, i cant barely stand 9's
It would be horrible if Pearly Gates was stolen or destroyed.
Interesting but the songs interspersed throughout the interview come from the worst musical period of ZZ Top. Eliminator had popular tunes thanks to MTV but the synthesizer period was just awful imo. Just give me the first 7 albums from their catalog and that's all I need
@stealthmummy you need help dude.

is it necessary a gay presenter?
they sampled the absolute worst zz songs out there
As a guitarist he about average.
LOL
