I periodically pray when the Giants are in the hunt for a playoff spot that if anything happens with the Fault, please don’t lay a finger on Oracle Park
Absolute great memories. Two decades of gold. Bonds hit 23 of 25 by 2003! 37 of 45 by the time he retired in 2008 and missed most of 2005 It took 16 years to go from 45 to 100.
As a o’s fan I feel great for you seeing that, wish you guys won that game instead of the second one so you guys could experience a splash shot and a victory.
Ugh, sad that I didn't get to witness the Barry Bonds era. I barely got into baseball in 2015 which means I also missed our most recent greatest era. But, 2023 is looking mighty fine with these 10 straight wins!!
@@happyseizure8941 Adding "in a row" is redundant and misleading. It implies Bonds hit 9 consecutive splash hit home runs, which he did not. There were other hits and home runs in between. He did hit the first 9 over a course of about 2 years though. If he had hit 2 splash hit hrs in consecutive at bats, THAT would be 2 in a row. Make sense?
When I first found out you could hit baseballs into the water in that park, I immediately thought of Baseball Simulator 1.000 for the NES where you can do the same. I SWEAR someone played the game and transferred the idea into real life.
There’s something about watching clips from 2008-2009 rn. There’s that optimistic mood that our greatest era will start very soon. After 2014 though it’s depressing
One of the things I love about Baseball. Other than maybe Cricket, you’ll be hard pressed to find a sport with unique stadium design/locations directly impacting the game experience.
FYI SFG UA-cam editor: at about 17:30, the video goes black and there is no sound for a while. Then there is the raw feed of Wade's trot, then nothing, then the sound and video come back to show a Yaz one-bouncer into the water. Lovely video though, lots of great moments.
McCovey Cove is one of the great landmarks in all of baseball. As soon as a left-handed power bat gets to the plate, all they're thinking of is "I want to hit one in the water so bad!" There have been many players that hit homers in the Cove, but one name stands out above the rest. BONDS! Whether he cheated or not, that man never let Giant fans or anyone who came to see him during that timeframe down, especially in the 2001 season and the 2002 playoffs. Even as an outsider, boy was he a treat to watch regardless of whether he was juiced up or not.
For some reason I thought there were far more of these. Then again, my young Cubs fan mind out here in Indiana following the rest of the league as a kid thought every home run Bonds hit in San Francisco landed in McCovey Cove.
Felipe Crespo will always be the answer to the trivia question: other than Barry Bonds, who was the first Giants player to hit a ball into McCovey Cove
Jeezus some of those Bonds HR were deep into Mcovey cove. That's a hard ballpark to hit bombs Barry made it look small. You can say he was juiced so were a lot of players in that ERA none of them made that stadium small.
Sometimes I forget just how far Bonds hit those balls into the cove. We will never see anything like that again. Glad to have been around for it
Why?
@@rustyshackelford4224cmon dude
@@rustyshackelford4224 because.

PEDS will do that for a guy.

First opposing team Grand Slam was last night, August 14, 2024. McCovey Cove Dave snagged it. And good for him.
Dope video bruddah!
Ill never get over the reaction of Wade Jrs mom cheering for his splash hit. Somehow she knew it was coming her way and he sent it

Should have added Posey's final home run as a footnote.
Agree! Also they should tear down the pylon that ruined it as a warning to the other pylons.
That means Crawford could’ve gotten the 100th hit and Posey would’ve been the first righty Giant to hit on into the water 😭
And what you don't see is that the baseball players from opposing teams (rarely) hit a homerun over McCovey Cove roughly between 4-6!
