You keep apologizing for the camera angle but this is actually one of the clearest and best instructional videos I've seen. The chords and notes are easily discernible and the pacing is repetition are great. Thanks!
Sir, this is a magical tuning/chord pattern, thank you so much. Most sites out there posting the chords are ... just not right. This is so refreshing to see and liberating to learn. Thank you!
I was driving home yesterday singing away to this and thought, I should learn this again but lo, my Stan Rogers songbook is long gone. Here's tomorrow sorted out. Thanks for this.
Hi Bill. Discovered your video for a really great walk through of one of my favorite songs. Thanks for making this. Was able to pick up what you were doing after watching it a couple of times on 0.75 speed. Good camera angle. Really superb explanation. I think he says "DADGAD" when he refers to the type of tuning. Had to look it up.
Thank you! Immensely helpful and what shines through is that you possess the heart of a true artist as evidenced by your desire to share your love for the music with a tutorial that makes this great song accessible to others! Bravo!
Saw a video of you playing this live and absolutely LOVED it! Resolved to trying to learn it watching you play over and over again and then this video popped up! Thankyou 🙌🙏
Hey Bill. Thanks for putting this up for Andrew. I played the Archie version back in the late 70s and am in the process of relearning it and stumbled on your tutorial. Really very helpful in spite of all your caveats. Coincidentally I have a very affectionate pup named Maya with amber eyes who loves to supervise my music. Keep up the good work!
Aha! Bill, I couldn't remember the name of the song you told me about, and you've just reminded me! I wanted to have a listen to that vintage guitar you told me about, so I think I found the video now. :) Thanks
Ahhh y'er poor nail Bill... I've a bottle of "Sallys' Hard as Nails" here from me fly tying supplies if you'd like/ care to 'ave it!!!! It's clear top coat!!! I s'pose I owe ye a pint or two or mebbe a wee dram now do I ?? I don't recall "Frère Jacques" being part o' the lyrics...always thought this a "Welsh" tune Thanks a million for the upload.... Avalon/Andrew
Yup, folk process, or in my case ageing memory will do it every time. Checking the other versions on here I am amazed by the number of singers who get the tune wrong and the words wrong as well, some miss out several verses. Even Stan Rogers misses out a verse. A terrible way to treat one of the best songs Archie Fisher ever wrote. (Check his version.) Like your DADGAD accompaniment!
Me too, only I find now this is one of those songs where the mouth gets ahead of the brain with disastrous consequences and the fingers go off and do something entirely inappropriate! Enjoy your music!

Thanks for the kind words Paul.

You are welcome Joey..it's fairly easy to play once you have the tuning sorted.

This is such a lovely, lovely rendition. Very inspiring!
Does anyone know what strumming pattern he is using for the verses?
Thank you Bill. This is Excellent!
I will learn guitar because of this song and this video sir.
Glad it had that effect
This tutorial is amazing! Thanks for this! Note: I was easily able to see the finger placement, and I'm easily learning this song. Thanks!
Thanks so much Bill! Didn't think I was gonna find a video but here she be!

Great lesson! Thanks much....
Can you tell one more time.. what is the exact tuning on this beautiful song? I can not get it right!
dadgad all tuned down from standard.
Thanks. I've been trying to work this one for a while.
Thank you SO much for this video! I prefer Archie Fisher's original lyrics but Stan Rogers' guitar work is better by far.
thanks Sophie.
Thanks Bill, this helped a LOT!!
Many thanks!
Many thanks for this version!
you are welcome..glad it works.
Love Bill Craig
Thanks man, really helpful! :D
Stan and Archie capo 5 . Good stuff this. Stan's song book has the chords but not the wonderful walks between the chords demonstrated here.
Thanks
'..beck water cold and clear'. A beck is a small stream.
I'm aware of my "mistake"...I've just sung it like that for years..probably not change now but thanks anyway..folk process?

Probably too late for me to change my ways now..it's the best I can do.But your points are well taken Bill.
