@@kefkafloyd I'm not sure there *are* any in my area, but I enjoy seeing clips of these larger gatherings and some of the more esoteric things that pop up there. Thanks for tuning in to Basic Bites, as well! -- JC
Thanks! It's been a while since I've made an actual video (I write/produce this largely as a podcast) and I've realized my aversion to video is not the editing or construction of a video-it's filming all the footage. I've always been a stills photographer, it's hard to get that out of your system.
That Clarion Hotel seems like it will soon become an episode of Jake Williams "Abandoned" UA-cam series!!! Might need to move to another before being forced to last minute. Just sayin' ... need to make sure that VCFMW never misses a beat :)
This year was my first. I jumped into the scene at MARCHintosh 2022 and have made many friends this year and even started a YT channel. If it weren’t for encouragement from Ron from Ron’s Computer Videos, Steve Mac84, Not Tom B, Garth Beagle, Eric Helgeson BlueSCSI, and many more I would not have attended. Agree that VCF is experiencing growing pains and it’s a good problem to have. I am confident they will work it out.
23:50 maybe there's no more growing in the show because there is no more public; I mean, with all the other shows you mentioned earlier (paid and sponsored ones) it's probably more than enough menu to cater all the retro attendance in the country. And keep in mind that since the last, say 5 years ago, most of the public was interested in retro computing by way of a dozen famous youtubers; and that niche is almost full and covered by now. Only time will tell...
Based on VCFMW's attendance trajectory over the past few years there's plenty more people willing to go. Part of that has to do with the guests, another part is that it's genuinely a fun time. It's growing faster than I think people expect it to. Yes, there are other events, but those events are also growing. And we're not even counting things with more general audience appeal like Midwest Gaming Classic, Portland Retro Gaming Expo, etc. I was just at Retro World Expo in Hartford and they had a ton of people. But those shows allow game consoles, which broaden the appeal quite a bit. Regardless, VCFMW isn't the meetup it was anymore, it's now a large event, and I've seen plenty of events struggle with that growth. Still, I have full confidence that the VCFMW staff will handle it well and grow with their audience.
I'd be the first person to tell you I'm not an expert videographer. I'm primarily a writer and stills photographer, and this is the first real video I've put together in almost a decade. Unfortunately, people just don't read blogs anymore, so I am learning to adjust to a new reality. I will be making improvements to my videography over time. Feedback is feedback, though, and it is appreciated.
As someone who has never been, this video is amongst the more well-structured and informative overviews of the event that I've seen. Thanks! -- JC
You're welcome! You should definitely visit a local vintage or retro gathering in your area. They're a lot of fun! By the way, I love your channel.

One of my favorite retrospective videos of a VCFMW show. Thanks for making this (and attending!). And also thanks for donating some items!
I'll be back there for this year's show, so expect a video for 2023!
Excellent video!! A must watch!

Great overview. Will try to attend next year.
I'm in Montgomery, AL. I keep missing the notices for the event in Atlanta!
You should definitely go! I hear it's a good time at VCF Southeast.
That is nuts!

Looking for Robin Harbron, 8 bit show and tell.

It was great meeting you at the show and I agree, it has a bright future in front of it.
I just saw this video. the macintosh TV in the video, I sent up there and even did a youtube series restoring it.
I have a Mac TV that's currently in the process of being restored! It's nice to see one working.
@@userlandia it was definitely fun to get this one working. It may make a reappearance at both VCF East and Midwest this year.

You are complaining about the greatest computer show to ever exist.
Your videography is terrible. Stop spinning around so much. I like the commentary - to a point - but the too fast video move around is not fun.
