Reupload in wide screen format Attention: This is not the original plot but a what if scenario. Khan has captured the USS Reliant. Kirk and the Enterprise crew have been ordered to regain control of the ship. Unfortunately, as everyone knows, that went wrong.
It looked great...very emotionally effective. However it would have really broken the mold of Star Trek to just shoot straight up the Z axis without "surfacing" behind Khan....but in Star Trek ships never approach each other at wonky angles. Wrath and the last two Star Wars movies were the peak of practical model effects. They hold up far better than studio CGI done in the 90s or even 4 years ago. This is a very good replicant, and better tgan some of the CGI studio work I've seen the last decade.
So in this version, Kirk listens to Saavik when she tells him he's supposed to raise shields when RELIANT first shows up, faking a comms failure, so Khan is unable to shoot up an unshielded ENTERPRISE. So Peter Preston and countless other ENTERPRISE crew don't get massacred, and ENTERPRISE is fully intact since if she "only" got chewed (badly) even with shields down. Khan makes a break for it in the slightly faster, but less heavily armed and armored RELIANT, with ENTERPRISE in pursuit. Khan reasons that even if he can stay in front of ENTERPRISE, Kirk can call in reinforcements and surround him. Seeing the vast Mutara Nebula nearby, Khan gambles that he can lose Kirk in it and shake off pursuit, leaving him with an intact ship, live crew and perhaps a chance to strike again another day, although in this version he never captured the Genesis Device, since Kirk didn't inadvertently lead the mind-controlled Chekov and Terrell to it. Not willing to give up the chase, ENTERPRISE pursues doggedly. ENTERPRISE gets off an unlucky shot revealing her position to RELIANT and RELIANT, still bent on escape returns fire also unsuccessfully with a single torpedo snapshot. Enraged, instead of continuing to flee, Khan elects to engage Kirk still wanting revenge for the death of Marla McGiver, his wife, and still stinging from Kirk insulting his intelligence. Kirk, taking advantage of Khan's inexperience with 3-D space combat "dives" ENTERPRISE, then using equal parts, skill, experience and "Kirk's luck", pirouettes and "surfaces" ENTERPRISE behind RELIANT and presides to savage her with combined phaser and torpedo fire, rendering her hors de combat and slaughtering Khan's Augment crew. Nyota Uhura contacts RELIANT with Kirk's surrender demand, but a fatally injured Khan defiantly choses to go down with his ship, detonating RELIANT's warp core. ENTERPISE and SPOCK(!) along with Captain Clark Terrell, Chekov, the scientist that Terrell phasers and the Marcuses happily ever after.
The underbelly warp away shot from ST:N is always my favorite way to see any Enterprise leave a system. To see the Constitution Ent, do it...Well done! You've made a fan in me!
If you mean the refitted 1701, agreed. If you mean TOS 1701, ehhh... nah. PS: Not sure though why you would bitch about A. It's essentially visually identical to the refit original.
@@atticstattic lol yea, aero in space is silly :) Makes me chuckle when I see in Star Trek ships making big swoopy banking turns unlike in shows like B5 where the Star Furies rotate in one axis to keep fire on the enemy whilst continuously travelling in their original direction.
While the older version still looks incredible, this release has a very obvious increase in ship texture quality. Also the starfield looks much more realistic here, and the nebula texture is improved too, if just a bit. I love how realistic this release feels, watching the ships up-close and maneuvering slowly. Exceptional work! 🥃
It depends on the quality of both the practical effects and the CGI. In this case, the original effects were better. It's obvious the uploader didn't have too much time, money or experience, but he did a decent job.
Great work my friend, your compositing is excellent... the camera work and scope of the shots feel appropriately heavy and very professional. Often when done in CGI the starships can come across plastic-ky and weightless, but your use of the CG assets is impeccable. Excellent and professional cinematography. Thanks very much for sharing this with us!
The best of all Star Trek movies. It stands out way above all the others. This is beautifully presented. Enterprise looks stunning as she stalks Reliant and attacks her. Since it's original release The Wrath of Khan has never lost it's magic. The crew look great, Khan is on top form, and the Enterprise is as I've already said, (stunning). And the music score is perfect. What more could anyone ask for. I worry that as the years are passing. That Star Trek feel is lacking. Star Trek had a feel to it that made you feel part of the family. And you wanted to be part of the crew, Boldly Going Where No Man Has Gone Before! May the memory of the original crew live long in our hearts. And those still with us live long and prosper. 🖖
Hmm... @6:53 a photon torpedo explodes and rips off one of the nacelles. This would have caused the reliant to start to spin away from the explosion. But then. It's only a film.
I saw the original showing in the theatre. There was a solemn feeling as we had seen our favorite character killed off but had given us the best space battle since Balance of Terror.
Ahhh..Star Trek as it was, might have been, and should be. I know it would be a different level of difficulty, but reproducing the Warp Drive effect from TMP would be glorious. I have seen a few attempts on UA-cam, but to see it in a Hike production, we are talking twelfth power goose bump energy!!!
Wow; this is VERY close to looking like the real thing. The Enterprise realism in your video is getting darn close to looking like the real model. You and one other guy are like.. NAILING IT!
The ships looks amazing. Delivers the feeling of the original models. But the Nebula and the Explosions looked better or more believable in the 42 years old original.
Interesting concept, and well executed! The only criticism I can muster is the photon torpedo effect. For some reason I've never seen anyone able to duplicate the movie effects in CGI. They're always either too spiky, too blobby, or look like a lens flare filter. Minor nit in an overall excellent piece of work!
Amazing job! It seemed the warp nacelle accelerated once it was blown off the reliant. I think it would look better if it barely moved at all as the reliant turned away from it and tilted like it lost weight.
I never believed a lot in hypnosis, but it just happened to me. I was sitting here completely frozen thinking I was watching the damn movie. The visuals at absolutely stunning! I'd be embarrassed to criticize this in the least. Hollywood had nothing on this. Would you mind terribly to do this for the first 3 films in their entirety please? No rush, I'll sit here and wait.
Nice 👍🏾 love the warp speed effect better than the recycled altered footage from the motion picture effect that ILM used & your phase effects are more sharper & looks better 🖖
Awesome work. Really top-notch! Among all the great aspects, I especially appreciate, the added gasp & breath, before Khan’s final words.

At 2:35ish, would the impulse engines be...impulsing at warp speed? According to Star Trek they wouldn't be...(yes, sometimes I am THAT guy hahaha)....however, I think the image of the Enterprise travelling at warp speed in the video would lose some of the beautiful symmetry that we see so I'm glad the trail of orange impulse plasma is seen. EXCELLENT VIDEO! Well done and thank you!
My head canon is Saavik raised the shields after quoting regulations at the same time Spock called out that Reliant was locking phasers. The Enterprise's shields were at 85% when Reliant fired. The attack did some damage but not to the extent as in the prime universe. Enterprise returned fire after lowering Reliant's shields and knocking out their weapons however she warped away with warp drive disabled until Scotty could bypass some superficial damage to power relays Enterprise could only follow on impulse power
Star Trek 2 best movie of the franchise and also the best enterprise ever 👌🏽 I wish that they actually did that in the movie where khan looks at the enterprise on the view screen. I know it did but was just brief.
I would have loved to have seen the scene from the novelised version where Saavik went down and altered the couse of the torpedo used for Spock. Kirk wanted to launch him into the sun on the new planet's first day but Saavik changed the settings.
Very well made! My compliments! I see you use the Refit model from Dennis Bailey, in 3ds Max I assume. I'm trying to work with a Blender conversion of the same model but it has some really weird geometry issued wich will lead to some silly shading when rendering etc... Others and myself are trying to fix it but its really tricky. Anyhow, I read in a forum post from you (already a few years old) that you made some modifcations of your own. Is there any chance of you sharing your model - as it seems to not have the Blender conversion problems? Thanks!
So, what - was David being kept from some yacht racing tournament? That sweater around his neck is ridiculous...but then...it is very cold in space...perhaps Scotty didn't prioritize the HVAC system.
I've always felt that photon topedoes damage was weird, and much less powerful than it should have been for an antimatter payload. And somewhat inconsistent.
This was just confusing. Why did the Enterprise chase the Reliant into the Nebula? And you had the drift of the Reliant wrong, based on the forces she had on her after being damaged. There were some good moments, but.....
encore une fois du très bon boulot mais, combien de versions allez-vous faire de la même séquence ? je n'ai rien contre loin de là mais à la longue, c'est répétitif...mais ça me donne quand même envie de revoir l'original...
Well this is a surprise...the antimatter containment system ACTUALLY worked when the Reliant suffered catastrophic damage to her port nacelle. Far cry from all the TNG and Voyager breaches we're accustomed to 🙄

Attention: This is not the original plot but a what if scenario.
Khan has captured the USS Reliant. Kirk and the Enterprise crew have been ordered to regain control of the ship. Unfortunately, as everyone knows, that went wrong.
Some of the best CG work recreating the Enterprise and Reliant I've seen. Captures the look of the models impeccably.
This movie had one of the best scores in cinematic history.
YES SIR !!! IT DID !! IT JUST GOES TO THE CORE OF YOUR BEING
I always get a kick out of the scene where the Enterprise pops up behind Reliant ala "Surprise m*****...
And although chekovs hearing And balance might be a little twacked from the eel,he could still shoot straight and true.
The first three TOS movies knew that the Enterprise was as much a character and star as the human actors l
In the nebula, where starships can't "see" each other, it's like submarines attacking one another. "Best guess, mister Sulu."
It looked great...very emotionally effective. However it would have really broken the mold of Star Trek to just shoot straight up the Z axis without "surfacing" behind Khan....but in Star Trek ships never approach each other at wonky angles.

I could watch slow fly-bys of any Enterprise with Jerry Goldsmith's theme playing for the rest of my life and never get bored, I think.
Yeah me too. There's something erieley familiar about Star Trek that I've always felt since I was a child .
What if I told you that Jerry Goldsmith did not compose a single note for Star Trek II, 3, 4, etc. This was the work of James Horner.
I absolutely love the refit Connie, such a beautiful graceful ship.
Nice to hear Spock’s voice again. Excellent work. Well done

Not sure what he's referring to either but TOS all the way, none of this unnecessary aerodynamic pretentiousness.

I can't think of anything that beats B5 for its detail and scope.
Some fantastic work here. I love the bit where the enterprise turns away from earth and goes to warp. That dramatic score is timeless too!
Love the clip of enterprise banking and going to warp speed. Awesome!!
This is absolute candy for me!! Well done!!!

Aside from the Credits naming the character 'KAHN' rather than 'KHAN', an excellent re-do of the spaceship effects. Kudos!
Chekov does not screw around when blasting Reliant to pieces.
The Reliant wasn't inwented in Russia. 😄
Of course. After Khan stuck that creature in his head Chekov wanted payback
Awesome work! Thanks!!
really well done, fantastic modelling
Brilliant work! ❤
Just another way to prove that practical effects are always better than CGI
In this case I'd disagree, this was flawless and an exceptional example of good CGI.

I must say I've tears in my eyes .
Bloody wonderful 👏 job.
It is the GOLD STANDARD of star trek & what you guys did there was wonderful 🏆 .BRILLIANT.
Nice work! Thishas always been my favourite starship sequence. It really captures the elegance of the refit Connie.
This is a beautiful creation. The models are on point, the lighting is ace and the camera angles are well placed. Good stuff!
Someone needs to do a Mirror Universe version of this fight that had Khan win.
In the Mirror Universe, Mirror Kirk and Mirror Khan would most likely be alliies.
More likely, Mirror Khan would be a genetically-enhanced freedom fighter trying to free Earth from the rule of a despotic world government. :D
Or at the very least make Khan as the good guy.
@@sureshmukhi2316 In the Mirror Universe Khan would be the exact opposite of his prime universe counterpart, as would be Tiberius Kirk.
