    Had the 14-30. Sold it, bought the 17-28. Amazing for gimbals.

    I opted for the 20 1.8, since that's where I'd be most of the time with one of these zooms. Plus, it's 1.8 and SO sharp & clean.

      I can't decide whether to buy the 14-30 Z f/4 or the 20 Z f/1.8. Any thoughts/pointers for me now that you've used the latter?

    I love my 14-30mm, it’s on my camera 80% of the time. Light, small and super sharp!

    Good timing for me, thank you. I got my 14-30 a year or two ago used for about $950 but in brand new condition. Just two days ago, I put it on my old trusty Z7 and did a walkabout. Now I've got your comparisons also. My own conclusion, I made a good buy for me and have no need to consider the 14-24 or the 17-28. I don't do much indoors yet. I'm not pro. I enjoy trying 14 mm f/4 while exploring Wyoming trails. I've got plenty to learn with this lens. Nice video. I hope the pro who sold the 14-30 to me and went to 14-24 is happy also.

    Back in 2019 I managed to find a used 14-30 at a good price and have found the 14mm coverage very useful so it would be difficult switching to anything much longer. It’s amazing how much difference 2-3 mm can make at times. At 14mm corners are not quite as stellar as the 14-24 but more than adequate. The 14-30’s sweet spot is at around 20mm, simply superb edge to edge even wide open.

    I went with the 14-30 f/4 and couldn't be happier with my choice. It's really small when collapsed, and pretty light weight. It's small and light enough that it's with me the vast majority of the time. I don't shoot enough ultrawide to justify carrying around the much larger and heavier 14-24 2.8, and I often notice myself needing/wanting the wider FOV afforded by 14mm versus 17mm. With the money saved versus the 14-24, I bought a 20 1.8 which is dedicated 99% to my occasional astro work.

      Me too: while I'd love to have the 14-24 f/2.8 (especially having had the Sigma Art F mount version of that with my D750) I can't justify the cost as an amateur, so I also have the 20 1.8 to complement the 14-30. Similarly, I have the 20 1.8, 50 1.8 and 85 1.8 (with the 35 1.8 at some point to come) to complement my 24-70 f/4. As much as I'd like 2.8 lenses again, it's more important for me to dedicate savings to upgrading my Z6 to a Z6iii or Z8 when one of those comes out. So let's see whether there's substance to that 'save the date' for next Saturday from Nikon Philippines.

    Thanks, it’s nice to have the choice of these three. The price and the faf of awkward filters on the Z14-24mm put me off the best lens.

    • @graysofwestminster
      @graysofwestminster  Рік тому +3

      they all take a filter :) so it depends on what size your ND filter kit is. The 14-24mm takes a special 112mm filter, the 14-30mm an 82mm filter, and the 17-35mm f/2.8 a 67mm filter

    I believe the 17-28mm is the first step to a trio cheaper option from Nikon with the 28-75mm F/2.8 lens which I already own. Maybe the 75-300mm on the way? Of course Nikon could do what Sony did and come out with cheaper primes. 11mm, 15mm APSC lenses. I believe the 26mm pancake lens there will be more coming.

    Good Video! When I bought the Z 9 I got it with the 14-30 F 4. I NEVER shoot at 2.8 and I leave a polarizing filter all the time. I sold my Z 6 II as I did not like the camera but kept the 24-70 F 4 kit lens. I usually leave the 100-400 S lens on the Z 9. The distortion at 14 in some settings is less than perfect but can be corrected with soft ware. I do most of my normal stuff with a Z fc and the 16-50 kit lens which I leave on the 2 Z fcs I own. The Z 9 though is simply amazing. I MIGHT add a Z 8, BUT I tend to SPEND my money on other things while Nikon stalls on a camera like the Z 8 that we have yet to really get the specs and then wait for half a year AT LEAST while we spend on none camera things. BUT then we have those other subjects to have enjoyed and even enjoyed taking pictures of!

    You do realize 17-28mm compliments 28-75mm and 70-180mm? So the focal length makes sense. It's an alternative to Nikkor trinity of f2.8 lenses.

    • @randallbrander8157
      @randallbrander8157 10 місяців тому +1

      @@indrajitadvani3742 money was the issue. So I didn't buy the F/2.8 Nikon Trio of 14-28, 24-70 and the 70-200 that have VR S I bought the 17-28, 28-75 and the 70-180 mainly for the price but of the weight. Tamron makes those same lenses for Sony and have gotten rave reviews. I still have the 14-30 and the 24-200 but hardly use them. Primes 26mm, 28mm and the 40mm are my favorites. I own all of the F/1.8 Primes including the new Plena 135mm. The F/1.2 85mm and 50mm not that much interested in them because I do more landscaping and scenery shots. For UA-cam its the video that I enjoy more than the photos. So Great quality for the fraction of the price is the reality that I am enjoying in using and not regretting in the purchases of the lens. Theory is you always are changing out the cameras but hold onto the glass. I have Canon and Sony and all of the glass are at the lowest end and are small and compact but still great quality to me. Sorry for the Rant. Cheers!

      TT artisans 11mm 2.8, cheap and cheerful punches above it’s price. Use it on my z6 was in Malta and found the 14-30 wasn’t wide enough in most churches.

    Can any video-focused people comment on the crazy warp-y / jello / distortion whenever panning / turning around in this video? To my (layman's) eyes it makes it look no better than a GoPro with that unreal / vr-looking interiors as soon as framing moves sideways....
    Is it a combination of rolling shutter x ultra wide angle? Or the ibis?
