As a grandma of most of you I feel the need to say that we had far fewer choices than you do today. We pretty much were limited to the lines carried in our local department store or drug store. The advantage to that was that all products from a line were designed to work together. Today we have unlimited -- and sometimes overwhelming -- choices which may or may not work together. Love your videos, Emily!
That's a good point, Linda. At our mall we only had Clinique, Estee Lauder and Lancome, then later MAC while my mom was alive. Mom's favorite was Clinique, then Estee Lauder when her friend Bunty got a job at the Estee Lauder counter. And Mom had an Avon lady. Our favorite thing to do on the weekends was going shopping for makeup and clothes and going out to eat for lunch.
Yup, exactly right. Mary Kay, Clinique, and Estee Lauder were the pricier brands. Maybelline, Covergirl, Revlon, and Wet N Wild were the cheaper ones. None of them had eye shadow palettes as big or varied as they do now. Nothing really sparkly or bright. You had to wet and dig into an eye shadow to get it to show up or last longer than an hour or two. Lipsticks had some range in color, but nothing like today. There was no primer or setting spray. The sheer number of facial products and brands just wasn't a thing then. EDIT: Petrolium jelly was used for so many things. Dab it on top of lipstick to keep lips moist and prolong wear. A little in the brows to keep them in line. On the cheeks to prevent chapping and give a subtle shine (old school highlighter). I was on my high school drill team and we used a little on our front teeth before a performance to keep them from drying out because we had to smile all the time.
Yes, as a teenager it was Bonnybill lipstick in the shade way too late for me that used to drive my dad crazy. It was called pineapple kiss. And until recently, I never wore foundation or eyebrow pencil. Just the same tube of mascara for four or five years, Some cover girl blush, and lipstick. We were quite poor -and you only had one of everything and you used it till it was gone!
One of my favorite memories was when the “Avon Lady” would come and bring the tiny tubes of lipstick. So fun. My husband’s Grandmom used to love a specific frosty pink/mauve lipstick from Wet N Wild. We cleaned out her house after she passed and found no less than 20 of them.
Yes our neighbor was an Avon lady and I loved those little sample lipsticks, I remember the shade African gold, I used it for years. Can you imagine that system these days...... Oh boy 👦
I have to agree! Even in my 20s in the '80s I was using those mini lipstick samples. There was one that was a deep wine color that I totally rocked in my 20s, lol.
My mom will be gone 1 year on the 31st. I cleaned out the home she lived in for 20 years and found about a case of Ponds cold cream. I took one just to smell it every once in awhile and donated the rest. Man... I miss her so much.
My mom just passed, and I’ve been going through her things. Oil of Olay face wash and moisturizer, a bottle of Revlon foundation that has to be over 10 years old, Revlon blush and lipstick. And the Cody powder. That was her only makeup. She grew up on a farm in Guernsey County, Ohio, and went directly from the farm to college in Chicago. She became a mother of three, a teacher, and a world traveler. She was able to travel to 43 of the states, England, Scotland, Ireland, Paris, Austria, and Romania. Most of her high school friends never left the county let alone the country! I took care of her for the last year so that every smile, kiss, laugh, hug and touch were mine. She was my heart!
Can you do a video that's something like "Doing my makeup like my mom" where your mom basically walks you through her routine and you follow those steps on yourself?
Bright, bright, shiny green eyeshadow all over the lid, my mom looked gorgeous in it. She was a radio officer on merchant ships and travelled the world (1950s and ‘60s), which meant that I didn’t see her very often, but I thought she was the most elegant creature I had ever seen. None of my friends’ moms even wore make up, and here she was in her elegant, foreign clothes and green eyelids, hair always perfectly done - I was so proud to be walking next to her. She looked like a film star, Elizabeth Taylor style!
Ladies of the 40's 50's and even 60' aimed to be classy, beautifully feminine, even glamorous. They wore tailored clothes, silk stockings, got their hair done and wore a little makeup that enhanced their features without being front and center screaming 'look at my make-up' obvious. They were feminine and lady-like, they did this even when they did not go to work. I have no idea what happened over the years .... but it's not at all what it once was.
Yes, my grandmother did this and then so I did as a teen in middle and into freshman year! It made the eye pencil go on smoother cuz those pencils didn't work the greatest!
I work in Extended Care and we can tell the “Ponds” “Noxema” “Olay” ladies - they have the best skin , the most popular is Ponds . Their skin is so soft, plump and remarkably not a lot of wrinkles .
My mother used Ponds cold cream to clean her face every day after she couldn't find Lady Esther anymore. She had incredible skin. Barely a wrinkle and no pores at 90! There's some serious validity to these products!
Marianna B. Totally, totally agree! I wish they would just knock the fragrance out or at least tone it down! My daughters great gma talks about it constantly and shes 97, and her skins remarkable.
My mom ONLY uses MAC. They were one of the first that offered multiple shades for brown skin. And it was "at the counter", which meant it was luxury. It was a status symbol to own MAC.
Yep. My mom used some expensive hand lotion when I was a kid because it was the only one that didn't irritate her skin. And it was at the counter, which always meant expensive.
I'm not sure how old your mom is but I'm 40 and I absolutely remember Fashion Fair, Iman, Black Opal, Black Radiance and Flori Roberts not only being black owned but catered towards a wide range of brown skin tones and were in department stores well before MAC. Even Mary Kay, Avon and Clinique to a lesser extent had a relatively decent shade range in the late 80s and 90's.
I'm the same age as some of the moms. Back in the day we didn't use primer, eye primer, bronzer, highlighter, or setting spray. They hadn't been invented yet. I remember concealer being available, but it came in one color and was nearly white. You used it UNDER your foundation. Also, we put foundation on our eyelids to give the eyeshadow something to grip onto.
Remember before YT made everyone go makeup crazy and people bought one of each product they needed and panned it before buying a replacement?! Lol! My Mom panned EVERYTHING!
My mom, like her mother was before her, is an OoO, gift-with-purchase department store makeup kind of woman. My Mammaw's bathroom cabinet was a tiny treasure trove of "fancy" makeup (though not a lot of it), and the only thing my mom deviated from was getting actual makeup brushes about five years ago. Clinique and EL will always hold a nostalgic spot in my heart because of that. I'm loving all these stories everyone is sharing about their moms. That remembering our moms' beauty routines can evoke strong emotions goes to show that makeup isn't "just" makeup.
My moms been gone for 27 years. I wear some perfumes she wore and it makes me happy. However, she wore oil of olay "pink" every day! When I tried using it I would cry. I was my favorite smell memory if her and reminded me of hugs. I had to stop using it but I loved it. I have one of her oil of olay glass jars that I kept and filled. ❤❤❤
I understand your crying and having to stop using it. My mom has only been gone for about 5 months now and so many smells that remind me of her make me cry. I guess it never goes away. 💔
I’m sorry your mom passed away. I worry about the day when I lose mine. We have always been close. The one smell that reminds me of mine is a perfume that she wore constantly when I was a kid. It’s Design by Paul Sebastian. She got it for me when I finished high school but it didn’t smell great on me sadly. But that smell takes me back every time!
One of my best memories of my mom, was that she would allow me to play with her makeup on Sunday mornings. I would pull out her makeup bag and just have a blast putting on her products. Then, she would have me model my look for her. She also had the Avon lady come over once a month and we would sit down at the kitchen table and look through all of her items. It was so fun and exciting. My mom passed away 4 years ago which is the hardest loss of my life. I absolutely cherish those memories of her. And I think of her often when I apply makeup. This is such a great video!!
@Abi Thomason Your comment is precious to me! Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to say such kind words. I'm so glad you have those memories with your mom, too. Those were special times, for sure. 😘
But so many happy memories too. My Mom used olay and she had beautiful skin. Lipstick she told me not to wear too much makeup it was bad for the skin. Always smiled in pictures . It was her birthday 2 days ago now her and Dad are together.
Me too 😢. My mum died in 1974 aged 34, but I have so many great memories of her doing her makeup. Mostly Avon. She would always give me the little sample lipsticks to play with.
This video warmed my heart!! My grandmother wore Revlon’s Softshell Pink (a warm-toned pearly baby pink) for her whole life - or as long as the lipstick existed anyway. I have her last tube and wore it when I did a reading at her funeral. My mom wears the shade as well. It’s not a color that works for me but it holds a very special plate in my heart and on my vanity.
Being african american there wasn't alot out there for my mom at the time because of her darker skin but one higher end brand that she love was fashion fair. I dont even know if they make it anymore. Oh and always chanel perfume
Yep, I remember the Olay pink lotion was always on my moms little mirrored glass tray in the bedroom and JeanNate’ splash. Lol I’m 55 and my mom had me late in her life so things like Rimmel and Bare Minerals wasn’t around, but Cover Girl and Max Factor and Maybelline were
My mother died in 2011. When my brother and I cleaned out her house, we found probably 20 Maybelline auburn eyebrow pencils. She was afraid they would discontinue her shade, so she had plenty of backups. And Avon lipsticks! Probably close to 50 Avon lipsticks!
Holly Webster, same thing here with the Maybelline auburn eyebrow pencils. My mother-in-law was a natural redhead and we found about a dozen of them after she passed.Fond memories of her.
I'm Hispanic and one of the staple of the Latina skincare (old timer) is the Pond creams. There is one Pond C (cleanse) and Pond S, dont really remember what the S stands for. Great video with great memories.
The lash primer that "does a really good job of not letting anything look chunky on top of it"...........can that be applied to problem areas like stomach muffin top, etc? Asking for a friend...... 🤔🙃
Cutex, yes! In my country, lots of women my mom's age (nearing her 80s) called any nail polish, of any brand or color, "a Cutex", just like some people now call any soda "Coke". Likewise, any tampon was "Tampax". I can hear her in my mind: "Nena, when you stop at the 'farmacia', get me a brown Cutex and a box of Tampax." Thank you for the memories.
Cutex is still available in South Africa and Olay remains a favourite. Unlike America and Europe we have limited makeup and skincare brands. Many of the "old" products mentioned here is alive and well and living in SA😄
My Mom use Cover Girl everything until I started giving her other makeup. I did give her the Milani eyeshadow primer, she didn’t use one, she was so excited about how much better her eyeshadow looked and lasted. I miss her 💔 Thank you for bringing back these great memories Emily. This was the first time I thought about my Mom where I didn’t cry. (Until now) I love you Emily 💕
I loved “back in the day” makeup. Its purpose was to enhance your God given beauty. I remember my mom taking me to the Fashion Fair and Este Lauder counter when i came of age. ❤️
I remember an aunt based in the US taking Fashion Fair and Iman face products in my country because she was disappointed there are no dark skin shades from the local Filipino brands. 😞
My beloved baby bulldog of 13 years passed yesterday and I’ve been a wreck. Your videos are helping to make me feel a little better and nostalgic for older makeup times. My mom rarely wears makeup but is loyal to Covergirl and Clinique.
My mom was practical in that she got the most affordable things she could. I remember a lot of Great Lash mascara, olay moisturizer, and only using the brushes/sponge tips that were provided or hands for foundation-no extra brushes.
Not too many people wore foundation, because the shades were awful and limited. You could tell someone was wearing foundation from miles away because they all looked orange! In college I started wearing powder as a base, it was a little more forgiving in terms of color and toned down my redness. I didn't start wearing foundation until the 90s, until I got color matched at the Lancôme counter, but it was too dry for me. No one talked about matching to your undertones or skin needs (dry or oily). By then, makeup sponges were available and made a difference in application. We have come a long way in the makeup world in terms of color options, formula, tools, and affordability. Kids today have no idea how lucky they are to have this, plus UA-cam for tutorials.
MERLE NORMAN. My mother is obsessed. She was also the type of person to wear blush as eyeshadow and I know it’s not a makeup item but Jergen’s original lotion I think the cherry almond scent is something she’s been buying since I was little.
Yes!!!! I just commented about Jergen’s Cherry Almond lotion! That’s a smell that definitely reminds me of childhood! My parents are in their 70’s and there is a bottle on their dresser right now!
Same across the board! I remember how thick and greasy that Merle Norman foundation was! In the 80’s she flipped to all Clinique, with Estèe Lauder Wear for foundation. Now she’s in her 80’s and is mostly Bare Minerals. Love this video!
I remember my mom was faithful to Oil of Olay up until the day she passed, and a smattering of Cover Girl products. What I most remember, is that all through Jr. High and high school, we had a Sunday afternoon ritual of going to Walgreens, where she would let me pick out a make up product or two. One of my fondest memories.
I started to tear up watching this and then I lost it. I miss my mom, I live in a different state and I don't get to talk to her much as she is getting older. She was your classic pearly blue eyeshadow wearer. She smeared pink lipstick on her cheeks and pulled her eye so far to flatten her eyelid to use her liquid eyeliner. I always tried to play in her makeup bag. It was the best. All those smells of powdery compacts she kept for years and watching her put on her put on her makeup will be my best memories of her.
Brings back lots of memories...oil of Olay definitely something my Mom used to use. She used cream “rouge” before cream products were cool. My Mom introduced me to elf when it was all $1 products. She was so excited! Hold tight to your Mommas...I miss mine every single day❤️
My mom barely wears makeup but she makes sure to wear highlighter every day...she calls it her shine lol...her favorite is ofra I believe rodeo drive...she says it shines the most
I lost my Mom last September but a few beauty things she always had was the peach colored Caress bar soap. She had a Covergirl checkers blush in the silver packaging. She gave it to me probably 10 years ago and who knows how long she's had it before then but I still have it and use it lol.
Those cheekers blushes never die. I have one I've had since high school that I'm trying to use up, and though I have had major pan on it and have repressed it, and it's at least 15 years old, it still has the same scent and works as well as it ever did.
I use Naked Basics! Back in the 70s, We had Woolco, Hills, Harts and KMart. Thats where my Mom's makeup came from. And stored it in an avocado green sewing box. Ponds Dry Skin cream. CoverGirl makeup with that Noxema scent, applied with her fingers. The matching powder, using that old puff. A CoverGirl blush that she would apply with a cotton ball. A Maybelline brow pencil (the red one) to line her lower water line. Maybelline classic blue eyeshadow-applied with that cheap applicator. GreatLash mascara-pink and green tube. And some kind of pink frosty lipstick. No primer. No concealer. No gloss. Very simple . I do have to mention she wore Estee Lauder Youth Dew. How times have changed! And she would have been 94 this year❤
My mom is in her fifties. She is a MAC loyalist. Mostly because MAC was one of the only brands that had deeper complexion products back in the day. As a result, the first makeup my sisters and I wore was MAC. It was like a rite of passage going to the MAC counter with my mom for the first time. I’ve branched out but one of my sisters is a MAC loyalist too. So interesting.
This is so interesting! Because literally as I was watching this I was wondering what was available for deeper complexions back then.. the reason I say that is because I know that even within the past few years, some brands have just started being more inclusive (which is terribly sad that it has even taken that long). But all of that said, I genuinely had that thought/ question while watching! So thank you for sharing your insight!!
Actually lots of people did. I remember my friends mom had a drawer of over 100 decluttered lipsticks she didn't want us kids were allowed to play with. I knew many more like her with entire bathrooms filled top to toe with luxury cosmetics and potions 💄
I’ve been watching your videos for almost 10 years and the ones featuring your mom back in the day are still some of my favorites. She seems like such a sweet soul and your dynamic together was beautiful to watch. I’d love to see another video with her, maybe her updated favorites or you doing her makeup? Thanks for another awesome Saturday morning video ❤️
I love a bit of nostalgia. Things from my childhood that stand out are like many have said , Oil Of Olay, but it was actually called oil of Ulay in the U.K. when I was young. I remember my Mum had bronzing pearls from Avon and they would make such a mess !
Oh my goodness my message got a response on the thumbnail AND IT’S MY BIRTHDAY?! 😱🥰😭 I’ve been a subscriber for a decade and don’t regret it, Emily! You literally taught me how to do makeup. Thank you makeup mom. 💕
Thank you Emily for creating this video!!! Such fun! My Grandmother used very few beauty products~ She washed with Dove bar soap, applied oil of Olay, used compact powder as foundation, and only wore red lipstick. Her fragrance was White Shoulders. She set her hair using Dippity Doo and created pin curls with bobby pins EVERY night while watching TV. She died 1.5 years ago at the age of 98. She did not learn to drive until my aunt, her daughter, was in high school, learning to drive, and she obtained her first driver's license in the early 60's. Grandma always changed her clothes, her shoes, then brushed her hair, and put on her makeup, before driving into town to run a quick errand. Growing up in the late 70's, there were not as many makeup and skin care choices available as there are today. I wore Love's Baby Soft and Heaven Scent fragrances. I washed my hair with "Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific", my favorite shampoo. I washed my face with Nozema, used Sea Breeze astringent, 2-3 times a week to prevent acne, but used Clearsil for acne breakouts. My makeup was simple: Maybelline's black, great lash mascara, however I wore a ton of blue mascara! I believe it was also the Great Lash, in Royal Blue. The only eye-shadows I owned were matte, from the Maybelline Ultra Velvet powder shadow singles. I had a blue one, a brown one, and a cream colored one. Blue was a thing! LOL! I often used the brown or blue shadow shades as more of an "eye-liner", rather than applied to my entire eye lid. (I do remember using a few Max Factor products growing up. I do not know if they are still sold in the US any more.) I did not pluck my brows, or honestly do anything with them at all, because of my fear at seeing other women who drew on harsh, dark, quite highly and poorly drawn "brows/lines". My terror kept me from destroying my own brows! Frosted or pearly lipsticks, and shimmery eye-shadows were something my mother wore and I was told I was not mature enough for those until I was in my 20's. I was not an eyeliner girl because I never could make it look good or right. I wore Maybelline Blush brush, in some pale pinky color, and no bronzer. Everyone wanted to have a "tan", and laid out in our back yards, covered in Coppertone, with our favorite radio station playing , but all I ever did was burn! LOL! Sun-In hair lightener was sprayed in our hair all summer long to give our hair natural looking highlights to accompany our tan. LOL! I used Cover Girl's moisturizing stick concealer for blemish cover ups and used Cover Girl's Oil Control compact powder for foundation. I wore colorless lip gloss in bubble gum and strawberry flavors. I really liked the "kissing potion" roll on lip glosses. Ponds cold cream and tissues were the way I removed my makeup. Thanks again Emily for your video and for the trip down memory lane! All the best to you and your family!!! XO's
My mom wasn’t really into makeup, and we don’t have a relationship anymore so I don’t really have these memories. I envy those that do. I do remember her having the most beautiful nails and she only wore a burnt orange cream Revlon polish. One year for christmas when I was in elementary school I bought her the most beautiful rosy red color that I thought would look amazing on her, she didn’t like it. She didn’t even try it on once to humor me and eventually it would up in my own polish basket, but I didn’t put it there. My brother or Dad wouldn’t have messed with it so she had to have done it, I was crushed. My grandmothers were pretty loyal to Estée Lauder, my one grandmother was a Roxyette (later renamed to Rockette) so she had all kinds of makeup but she would never let anyone see her without her makeup, even her grandkids. So I only have vague recollections of her makeup routine. My other grandmother only wore lipstick and “rouge” on special occasions, otherwise she never wore makeup. She sometimes wore polish and would let me polish her nails whenever I would stay to visit. She loved frosty pastel shades and lavender was my favorite color so we always got along really well!
Awwww I’m sorry. This story makes me feel for you. I can’t imagine not putting that nail polish on and telling you how much I love it. It’s funny the things we remember from our childhood that broke our hearts. I had the best parents in the world but one time my dad made fun of the way I was walking in my bathing suit and I was totally crushed and still remember every moment of it 50 yrs later. Sending you love my dear
That's cool about your one grandmother being a Rockette and it sounds like you had a close relationship with your other grandmother, which is very special. Sorry about you and your mom. I never knew my birth mother but was super close with my adopted mom. Lost her 15 years ago and miss her every day. Lavender was my favorite color, too!
I enjoyed this video but there was a general sadness for me because I don’t have a relationship with my mother either. I don’t ever remember her washing her face but she would use that pink and green tube of mascara and then get a cover girl blush and brush it over her face like bronzer.
@@whycare4life Ditto, it kinda made me sad too - I also don't have any contact with her. I decided to try and think of a good memory of her - Two days later I had to let it go after failing to come up with one.
I love the simplicity of the "olden days" make up routines. This was a great video to wake up to. Thank you for giving me a distraction from my anxiety. ❤
Loved this video as I am closer to your Mom’s age. You looked stunning in “our” makeup. Love your channel as you always leave me feeling happy and positive. 💄💕
In 2009 my now husband took me to a Clinique counter to get my makeup done with things I could use at our wedding. It was an awesome experience and then my entire look was achieved with Clinique. ;) Of course as a makeup enthusiast I still have them tucked away for sentimental reasons.
I went to Clinique to get makeup for my wedding as well! I did it myself but I still have the eye shadows and blush I bought that day sitting on my dresser!
I wore Clinique for my wedding, too... an eyeshadow palette and a berry colored lipstick. One of my friends had to do my blush because I never wore it. lol
The only place to get makeup back in the day was walmart, dillards, elder-beerman, and places like CVS and Walgreens lol if you wanted prestige, you went to the 2 dept stores and waited (lancome, clinique, estee lauder) I am 40 and when we finally got a ulta and sephora(inside JCPenny) I was so excited!!!! I am not too sure that all of our options today have really made a big difference in the actual "looks" of those years ago who stuck with that one brand.... Style and application may be better but now I'm not too sure if all the options make alot of difference
I agree, but the options have sure made it so much more fun! There is now a huge community of people that are makeup enthusiasts not just makeup artists
I agree and I am a makeup lover. I am overwhelmed when I go into my local Ulta sometimes. I think back and you would have to drive to the mall to even have half the choices we have today in our backyard. My local Belk and Ulta have more than Neiman Marcus did growing up. You know what, going to those stores made it a special treat and I think more fun. I guess we should be careful what we wish for. LOL
My grandmother used Oil of Olay and had GORGEOUS skin well into old age. She died at the age of 90 and had beautiful skin and all her own teeth. She was very proud of having all her own teeth. 🤣😂🤣😂
I'm a dental assistant, and so many patients over the age of 70 will tell me how proud they are when they have their own teeth. It's kind of adorable, especially if they tell you how their parents had dentures at a young age.
I remember one Christmas my relative said to her she was looking great! My grandma said “yep and I still have my teeth!” By that age it certainly is an achievement. She was very diligent about taking care of her teeth.
My mom is all about Clinique. The first makeup I was allowed to have as a teenager was a Clinique powder. She still swears it’s the best. Black honey lipstick and the green packaging, I’ll never forget.
The Avon "opalescent" chapstick reminds me so much of my mom and it always will ❤️ she also still uses the pink oil of olay moisturizer! This was such a nostalgic video for me, thank you ❤️
I assume that people were more brand loyal back in the day because of access to products and information on those products. Perhaps you could only access Clinique , Lancôme etc at your nearby Macy’s. So it was more convenient to stick to one brand of everything. And there really was not lots of reviews out in the open aside from beauty magazines and books! So if you liked one product from a brand, you just stuck to that brand for virtually everything. Nowadays we have so many options, so much variety, so much INFO that we really have to be discerning and skeptical of reviews out there.
I think some of that is true. My mom used only Este Lauder and Clinque for years, even if my sister and I tried to introduce her to other options 🤷♀️.
Once QVC came along, that opened up a whole new world. My mom and I were QVC addicts and would call each other at midnight about the TSV, especially if it was makeup or a new coat, etc. LOL My mom watched QVC so much the logo was burned into the TV. lol
Yes for sure. Also back in the day products were designed to work together more specifically than they are today as well. Which in many cases back then were money grabs but it was true in some cases too. I kind of miss that. I am almost 53 and I definitely had all Clinique products then all Estée Lauder products. I then got a better paying job and I did get all Lancôme at one point. I still use a few things from each line.
Ahhh scent memory. I can smell the Olay from here lol. My Nonna used to have a bottle of it and a dish of rose shaped little soaps we couldn't use on her vanity ❤
My Moms go-too drug store brand was Revlon and Almay. She bought a lot of Avon. Noxema cold cream was her night and morning creams. It was also her makeup remover. And she always used her fingers to apply foundation. NEVER a sponge or brush.
Fun video! 61 years young here...and yes, used SO many of these products for years on end...purchase, use up and repurchase. was everything. Interesting that so many are still available...it’s such a bummer that these days so many products get discontinued the minute you fall in love with them. Fast cosmetics?
Growing up, Mom would not go anywhere until she "put her face on." I'd always tell her she was beautiful just the way she was. She'd use Pond's Cold Cream, Kohl eyeliner, and orangey-red lipstick (that she also used as blush) and, of course, Great Lash Mascara. I miss my Mom so much! This video made me think of her, thank you for posting this one. 💕
When my grandparents moved to assisted living in the 1980s, Grandma still got up every morning and put on a dress (never owned a pair of pants 😊), a matching set of beads and clip-on earrings and a pink Revlon lipstick (for lips AND cheeks). When she passed, I got to choose a set of her jewelry and I wish I had one of her lipsticks ❤
I'm 40 years old! I didn't know anything about makeup stores like sephora, ulta, blue mercury ect. Until I was 32 years old! I did know that Belk had a makeup counter but was never told about it by my mother. I just assumed that "That" makeup was only for the "rich" people. My mom only bought her makeup from kroger and kept it in a zip lock bag! I remember going to a yardsale in my 20s and finding some Lorac tantalize bronzer in a sample tube and some benefit pore primer and I loved it! We got our 1st ulta at the mall last year finally 🙌 still don't have a sephora or anything else within 100 miles away lol So thankful for UA-cam and online shopping lol and I now know I can buy makeup from este lauder without being a ol rich lady hehehe I also have given my mother a proper makeup bag and some nice makeup to wear lol Her staple growing up was the Revlon lipstick in coffee bean (80s 90s)
I'm 47 and remember discovering Sephora when I was in my early 30's. Growing up in the 80's it was all about drugstore products or luxury department store products. We are so spoiled today!
This made me cry. Mom died 9 months ago at age 92. She didn't use any makeup until she was in her 80's and realized that she needed blush. I would take her shopping for foundation and blush. I taught her to use moisturizer, foundation and blush. She felt better about herself! I miss her.
I’ve really come to love stick concealers. I’ve almost gone through a Neutrogena one and I previously used up a great Almay one. They are so easy and both of those are creamy, not dry.
My mom used Max Factor Pan Stick and a rouge that came in a little red pot. Her favorite lipstick was a Coty in the color coral. I recently repurchased the Urban Decay Basic pallet after hitting pan. This was a great video brought back a lot of memories.
Your mom and mine were kindred spirits! My mom always used Pan Stick and a coral shade of Coty lipstick, too! I also remember the red Maybelline eyebrow pencils and mascara in a cake form that you wet and apply with a brush. I think that was a Maybelline product, too. I don’t think she used a moisturizer!
My mom had a lot of CoverGirl products when I was growing up. I remember the smell of the powder in the green compact. About 10 years ago she became an aesthetician so now she uses professional lines of skin care that are only sold at trade stores.
Oil of olay! My very first moisturizer that my mom bought for me and I still use the night of olay as my nighttime moisturizer! Also, cover girl everything for the face! My mom preferred their loose powder over the pressed but cheekers blushes and the eye shadow trios were where I started! Great lash mascara was the O.G. as well!
I am 61 and remember my mother and grandmother wore coty powder, mascara and Revlon lipstick. I spent my teens and 20s in covergirl clean foundation, a mushroom color Aziza eyeshadow, Greatlash mascara and Revlon lipstick. Then graduated into my 30s which was Lancome foundation, a five color eyeshadow palette by Dior and clinique blush. Now in my 60s I dont have much makeup by most womens standards but I probably have more in my drawer than my mother and grandmother had in their entire lives. I remember when every had a makeup bag or pouch, then a Caboodle, now it seems everyone has a makeup drawer.
I am 60, and used to use most of the "mom" choices. Brand loyalty because things should match! Since I started watching You Tube 5 years ago, I use a lot of different brands. Love to experiment!
Emily, my 15 year old kitty is potentially dealing with some health problems and has an ultrasound to help investigate them next week. I am such a wreck. This video is maybe the only half hour of peace of mind and smiles I may have today, thank you ❤️
One of my grandmas used Noxema and the smell reminds me of her. The other loved Estée Lauder but was also very loyal to her Avon lady. I remember her telling me as a teenager in the 80s to not overpluck my eyebrows or they wouldn’t grow back. So thankful for that advice.
My mom recently visited me and we threw out ALL her old makeup- Lancôme foundation, old IT cosmetics eyeshadow palette, ABH brow wiz etc. I took her to target and completely refreshed her routine. She now uses the $2 elf brow pencil, cover girl fresh skim milk (looks amazing on her), elf camo hydrating concealer etc. She has a new confidence with makeup! I loved it!
My mom wasn’t into makeup (she always wondered where my obsession with it came from) but my Gramma was and loved Revlons Erase stick and Chanel No 5. No Erase for me but Chanel still makes me happy to smell, not wear. Great video, what fun memories it’s evoking!
My mom used to use the old cover girl doe foot tube concealer for YEARS. She didn’t set it with a powder and it didn’t give her the best coverage. I gave her both formulations of the elf camo concealer and so far she likes it!
Emily, I agree with your idea that some busy women like going to one brand and getting everything. My mother was like that. She used the same products over and over. To this day, I think of her when I see a tube of Maybelline Great Lash or Mary Kay skincare :) There is something nice about loving one thing and sticking with it. It seems simpler than always chasing after what's new in makeup.
The vaseline thing is for real. Moisturize the whole face with any Olay, of course, then with a bit of vaseline use gently around your eyes and forehead (thin layer is all you need). I'm convinced this has kept the wrinkles in check. I'm 46 and no one believes me at work. Lol ;) Brand Loyalty: Olay & Loreal. ELF and IT Cosmetics are more "current" ones.
My mom passed away a few years ago but I remember she would always buy everything from Clinique, and always went for the free gifts. When we cleared out her things, just about everything was Clinique, except for one of those eyeshadow trios from Almay! On the influencer thing, our moms may not have been influenced by online media but mine was definitely influenced by the makeup lady behind the counter at the store, or the hairstylist at the salon who suggested this or that for her, even when she didn’t need it. She was definitely an impulse buyer though, and as I result I tend to really think my purchases through.
My mom was very unto Clinique and Almay too (she swore Almay was the drugstore version of Clinique). She has broadened her makeup collection greatly in the last 15 years but those products will always remind me of her.
@@laurastr1 Yes, I am 48 and we had magazines that told us everything we needed to know, as least we thought they did. I was obsessed with magazines and I still love them. I just grew up in that generation. Vogue is still the thing as well as Allure. I look at them online now mostly but still collect a few. I don't feel like we were deprived.
My mom is 76 and she likes to experiment with as many new products as I do. Back in the day, though, we had little selection where we lived and it was mostly Cover Girl and Maybelline. L'oreal and Revlon were "fancy." She did sell Avon in the 60's but I don't remember her buying much when I was growing up in the 80's and 90's. She always put on a full face before leaving the house and still does.
I’m 54. It used to be social media was the magazine adds and makeup counters. That’s how you learned to do makeup. Therefore, you’d go for a makeover at a counter and of course you’d come away with the kit. If it worked, you’d stay with it because that’s what you knew to do!
I learned about new makeup and techniques from Glamour magazine. I idolized Cheryl Tiegs and remember duplicating a look using a foundation by Charlie-as in the fragrance! Highlighter, primer, separate makeup brushes, and setting spray did not exist back then.
The Wet n Wild shimmer bronzer is SO GOOD! Someone's mom is a smart cookie, I was stunned by how good it is. Specifically the shade called "Sunset Striptease"!! ❤️
One of my favorite little girl memories of my mom was the scent of her Coty lipstick. (Dermatology tinted facial sunscreen smells a little like it.) Sometimes, she would give me the tube when there was barely any left. I was around 6 years old. I remember her wearing it from around 1968 through the '70's. ♡♡♡
god the double wear. i'm 24 and still use it basically every single day, i know it has such a "Mom" or old school vibe around it and sephora doesn't even carry it in most stores!! but god, that foundation is just my FAVORITE. nothing looks better on me, lasts better, matches better. i don't care if it has the old vibe haha i LOVE IT
My mom was one of the ones that only wore one makeup item - red lipstick. There were different brands, but the one that stands out is the Revlon one that was in a skinny tube? Black packaging and clear lid. I remember when I "borrowed" one of hers starting junior high. I wore it all through high school. I dont think they sell those anymore. I have now introduced her to many other makeup items and she is loving it. She grew up poor so she didnt have a lot of options. I love sharing the joy of makeup with her now.
There’s nothing like the smell of the pink Olay lotion! My mom uses that, the Mary Kay eye makeup remover, Covergirl Cheekers blushes, Dove bar soap (love the smell!), Maybelline Great Lash mascara, and Maybelline Dream Fresh BB cream. And my Nana B always used Coty Air Spun powder and a red lipstick!
My mother doesn’t and has never wore makeup. Her mother, my grandmother would only wear a little power w lipstick for special occasions. Face/eye primers and finishing sprays really wasn’t around back in the day. Or I don’t remember them. Now I do remember seeing others spraying hairspray on their faces to keep makeup in place! I did it too for special occasions. Bronzers and highlights were items that weren’t used daily like they are now. Love how makeup and skincare has evolved over the years.
My mom has used this L’Oréal mineral foundation for as long as I can remember. It comes in a plastic jar and the lid has a big powder brush on it. She also used that cover girl duo too! I wore one of hers in my senior pictures in high school 😂
Wow!!!❤️❤️❤️ I was so excited to watch this video!!! Almost 50 I feel that content is for the young ones... i am a mom and grandma and its wonderful to have someone so special like you Emily giving us gals some attention Yes!!! we were young and yes we used beautiful excellent simple makeup that we were very faithful towards and still are!!!My mom (71) uses and used "oil of olay" for the longest and has gorgeous skin one faithful product!!! (My 95 granny uses oil of olay till this day💞) always had a barely there makeup look with a gorgeous stand out lip!!! In our abundent world of makeup we are so busy BUYING rather than ENJOYING one or two excellent products from a category!!! Those were the days. But i am feeling it- as time goes i begin to understand that i DO NOT need an overload of makeup i need what works for me and my skin!!! and basically that is the basics I buy and buy and always keep going back to the true and tried (a good sunscreen moisturizer foundation a great brow product mascara blush eye palette -maybe for each season and some lip products ...) Thanks for an AWESOME idea for a video!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘
Exactly!! 😘
I’m with you “age wise” Linda and I remember my mom using that Max Factor pancake makeup. Man was that stuff orange!! LOL!
Oh boy 👦
My grandma always had those! Lol.
I have such good memories of those Avon lipsticks!! My Mom and my Auntie would browse the catalogs together and I would play with lipstick.
I have to agree! Even in my 20s in the '80s I was using those mini lipstick samples. There was one that was a deep wine color that I totally rocked in my 20s, lol.
I love the Avon Glimmersticks. I mean now for myself!
My mom will be gone 1 year on the 31st. I cleaned out the home she lived in for 20 years and found about a case of Ponds cold cream. I took one just to smell it every once in awhile and donated the rest. Man... I miss her so much.
I'm so sorry for your loss! It's amazing how scents can be tied to fond memories. Hope your 31st is filled with wonderful memories of your mom 🙏🏽💕
Big hugs, Melanie!!
My grandmother will be gone for a year on the 31st as well 😭😭😭
@@susanspann427 big HUGS to you, too, Susan! The first anniversary is so hard. 💞
I’m so sorry, Melanie. I miss my mom too. Never goes away.
🦄 oh how lucky you are! I'm 60 and I miss my mommy every single day. She was my best friend 💜👭💜💜💜
Well, she had to keep her makeup bag light with all her traveling. She must’ve been great, you speaking so fondly of her says a lot. 💕💕
I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm happy you had such great times with her.
Can you do a video that's something like "Doing my makeup like my mom" where your mom basically walks you through her routine and you follow those steps on yourself?
Yes please
OH MY GOSH, YES! AND - doing the Mom's makeup routine, from when we were kids!!!
Your kids 20 years from now when asked what their mom used for makeup "malani eye shadow primer" 😂
😂
Bright, bright, shiny green eyeshadow all over the lid, my mom looked gorgeous in it. She was a radio officer on merchant ships and travelled the world (1950s and ‘60s), which meant that I didn’t see her very often, but I thought she was the most elegant creature I had ever seen. None of my friends’ moms even wore make up, and here she was in her elegant, foreign clothes and green eyelids, hair always perfectly done - I was so proud to be walking next to her. She looked like a film star, Elizabeth Taylor style!
What a neat story!
What a beautiful story! 💚
Iove this story! I bet your mother had stories for days!
Eyeliner- the short red maybelline sticks! My aunt use to burn them with a lighter and apply to her water line THICK!!!!!
Yes, my grandmother did this and then so I did as a teen in middle and into freshman year! It made the eye pencil go on smoother cuz those pencils didn't work the greatest!
My mom and my grandmother STILL use the red eyeliner pencil!
My mom lit them too! I did it the same way when I started wearing makeup.
Oh yes I remember those lighters in my mom and aunts makeup bags. Just for that purpose. LOL!
We did this high school in the 80s.
I work in Extended Care and we can tell the “Ponds” “Noxema” “Olay” ladies - they have the best skin , the most popular is Ponds . Their skin is so soft, plump and remarkably not a lot of wrinkles .
Yes 100% you can literally spot the skin! I think I need me some ponds! Lol
My mother used Ponds cold cream to clean her face every day after she couldn't find Lady Esther anymore. She had incredible skin. Barely a wrinkle and no pores at 90! There's some serious validity to these products!
I love Ponds!
Marianna B. Totally, totally agree! I wish they would just knock the fragrance out or at least tone it down! My daughters great gma talks about it constantly and shes 97, and her skins remarkable.
My mil is a Pond’s lady! Her skin is lovely-she’s made me a convert.
I’m surprised you didn’t get more Avon comments.
I'm 66 and I remember it was such a treat for my mother, when the Avon lady came, and I loved the little lipstick samples
Oh definitely
Yes! My mom wore very little makeup but Avon was it. It was a treat for her to get her Avon order.
That’s more of our *grandmas* makeup bag
My mom ONLY uses MAC. They were one of the first that offered multiple shades for brown skin. And it was "at the counter", which meant it was luxury. It was a status symbol to own MAC.
Still is! Lol
Yes! Omg my mom too, she has some of blushes from them
@@dianes.3583 absolutely! MAC was ONE of the few my mom had access to. I love that there were others, but MAC was the one we knew best.
Definitely Oil of Olay. She would not leave the house without lips and brows. But she also wouldn’t leave the house without the dishes being done.
😄
I'm the same age as some of the moms. Back in the day we didn't use primer, eye primer, bronzer, highlighter, or setting spray. They hadn't been invented yet. I remember concealer being available, but it came in one color and was nearly white. You used it UNDER your foundation. Also, we put foundation on our eyelids to give the eyeshadow something to grip onto.
Oh yeah, I remember the conceal first foundation over that days. My aunt looked like a ghost before she got her foundation on. 👻😂
You got it! No primer, foundation was primer!
I am right there with you!
I do conceal first, kinda under foundation. I use the foundation around the concealer to “mesh” it together but not layer it to avoid cake face:)
Yes! I'm 48, and this sounds spot on!
Remember before YT made everyone go makeup crazy and people bought one of each product they needed and panned it before buying a replacement?! Lol! My Mom panned EVERYTHING!
That’s what I do but only cause I’m broke 😂
No, it won't go away, but thats how we keep them with us. ❤
Totally understand that❤️
My mom wore Estée Lauder youth dew and it brings her right to me every time I smell it!
♡♡♡♡
❤❤❤
@Abi Thomason Your comment is precious to me! Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to say such kind words. I'm so glad you have those memories with your mom, too. Those were special times, for sure. 😘
What a sweet memory!
Emily!! what are you doing to us? you're making everyone cry over the makeup memories😭😭😭😭😆
Yes 😢🤣 but its nice thinking about my mom. She loved makeup. Always used noxema to wash her face and the maybelline red eyebrow pencil
Wow, thanks for sharing! Chanel perfume, a classic!
Yep, I remember the Olay pink lotion was always on my moms little mirrored glass tray in the bedroom and JeanNate’ splash. Lol
I’m 55 and my mom had me late in her life so things like Rimmel and Bare Minerals wasn’t around, but Cover Girl and Max Factor and Maybelline were
Oh gosh, the mirrored glass tray!
Oil of olay, Avon, ponds, Revlon lipsticks.
My mother died in 2011. When my brother and I cleaned out her house, we found probably 20 Maybelline auburn eyebrow pencils. She was afraid they would discontinue her shade, so she had plenty of backups. And Avon lipsticks! Probably close to 50 Avon lipsticks!
That's how my mom was about Avon's Silicone Glove hand cream. My mom passed in 2005. Hugs!!
So special
My mom used Oil of Olay, does anyone remember Cutex nailpolish and lipsticks? She used that too.
Yes! My first polish was cutex
Yes! Cutex!!
Cutex was the bomb!
When corona is over and you feel safe to do so id love an in person collab video with David!!!
Second this💖
I’ve met him a few times. He’s very sweet and knowledgable.
I loved Great Lash!
Make up brushes weren’t a thing back then. We just used what came with the products.
@@laurastr1 still does too!
How about using lipstick as “rouge”? 😂 For years my Mom did this ...and it was Revlon Love That Red no less!!
Omg that color takes me back!! I think they had that in nail polish too. I think they still make that. Lol
Haha, my mom does the same thing lipstick also used as blush she said it matches each other. (Good point). Have a wonderful weekend!
My mom did. She also used this mascara. images.app.goo.gl/ZNdSZoFCzgn6EW5T9
when i wear lipstick i wear it as a blush too sometimes
I do this! Yet to see a cream blush that works better.
MERLE NORMAN. My mother is obsessed. She was also the type of person to wear blush as eyeshadow and I know it’s not a makeup item but Jergen’s original lotion I think the cherry almond scent is something she’s been buying since I was little.
My mom is Merle Norman also. You never even hear about it in makeup circles.
Yes!!!! I just commented about Jergen’s Cherry Almond lotion! That’s a smell that definitely reminds me of childhood! My parents are in their 70’s and there is a bottle on their dresser right now!
That cherry almond lotion has such an iconic scent. 😻
Same across the board! I remember how thick and greasy that Merle Norman foundation was! In the 80’s she flipped to all Clinique, with Estèe Lauder Wear for foundation. Now she’s in her 80’s and is mostly Bare Minerals. Love this video!
@@skiptomyluludarling8519 yes!!! I agree!! Love how it smells!
💜💜💜
Brings back lots of memories...oil of Olay definitely something my Mom used to use. She used cream “rouge” before cream products were cool. My Mom introduced me to elf when it was all $1 products. She was so excited! Hold tight to your Mommas...I miss mine every single day❤️
Me too. Its been 10 years. I miss her so.. Sending hugs.
My mom barely wears makeup but she makes sure to wear highlighter every day...she calls it her shine lol...her favorite is ofra I believe rodeo drive...she says it shines the most
She’s right! Ofra highlighters are serious 🙌🏽🤍
She has good taste!
Omg my mom used the peach caress too. She absolutely loved it. Mine has passed on too
Dose anyone remember the little red box with the slide over lid of cake eyeliner ? It was by mabaline
@Love My Doggy I think Besame duped that with their cake mascara in a red tin can. It's one hell of an eyeliner as well when used with a wet brush.
I bought the besame cake mascara and I love how it looks like an eyeliner and even mascara bc its not super clumpy
Love My Doggy is it still available?
That’s sweet!
Your mom is still young.
Nobody had a " make up collection" like now...mom had Coty Powder, a tiny rouge and maybe three Revlon tube, lipsticks...one brow/ eyeliner pencil.
Lol. The Coty powder and the little red eyebrow pencils!
Actually lots of people did. I remember my friends mom had a drawer of over 100 decluttered lipsticks she didn't want us kids were allowed to play with. I knew many more like her with entire bathrooms filled top to toe with luxury cosmetics and potions 💄
@@tomjones2157 wow!
And the three lipsticks were pink, coral/orange, and red.
XO's
🦄 I was smiling the whole time I read your comment!!! Every single thing you did, I did too! 👭💜🥰🥰🥰
Your gma was a Rockette?! Holy crap this is too cool. I can’t imagine the stories she must’ve had to share with you , very cool 🤍
Tip of the day: try a clean spoolie to remove mascara smudges, works much better than a q-tip and doesn’t mess up the eyeshadow as much!
I do this, too!
One of my friends had to do my blush because I never wore it. lol
I was mostly Clinique but I loved Estee Lauder Ceramic Pink lipstick and wore it for my wedding in 1984. I think it’s long discontinued.
@@laurastr1 Oh I loved and wore Ceramic Pink also! Still gutted it was ever discontinued...It came in the most beautiful gold tube!
That’s awesome! My grandma is still going strong past 100 and she still has her own teeth 😂
100%
My mom only buy clinique makeup and skincare
🦄 I miss my mommy every single day 😓
When my grandparents moved to assisted living in the 1980s, Grandma still got up every morning and put on a dress (never owned a pair of pants 😊), a matching set of beads and clip-on earrings and a pink Revlon lipstick (for lips AND cheeks).
We got our 1st ulta at the mall last year finally 🙌 still don't have a sephora or anything else within 100 miles away lol
So thankful for UA-cam and online shopping lol and I now know I can buy makeup from este lauder without being a ol rich lady hehehe I also have given my mother a proper makeup bag and some nice makeup to wear lol
Her staple growing up was the Revlon lipstick in coffee bean (80s 90s)
I'm 47 and remember discovering Sephora when I was in my early 30's. Growing up in the 80's it was all about drugstore products or luxury department store products. We are so spoiled today!
Mom doesn’t wear makeup, but Gram swore by everything Avon! Skin So Soft and Soft Musk were her jams.
Same!
Skin so soft smells like my childhood!
Mom used to buy two at a time on Skin So Soft.
Omg sweet honesty was the bomb
Pan-Cake and Pan-Stick were BOMB! Fullest coverage makeup you could find!
Nancy I remember my mom using that cake mascara as well!
Never heard of primer til recently...older ladies never used it...nor setting spray!
💜💜💜
I am 60, and used to use most of the "mom" choices. Brand loyalty because things should match! Since I started watching You Tube 5 years ago, I use a lot of different brands. Love to experiment!
Hi Nancy, do you remember Max Factor stick foundation & the pancake foundation ? Bonnie Bell lip balms ?
Emily, my 15 year old kitty is potentially dealing with some health problems and has an ultrasound to help investigate them next week. I am such a wreck. This video is maybe the only half hour of peace of mind and smiles I may have today, thank you ❤️
Praying for your sweet kitty 🐱💕🙏🏼💕
@@sandybowers5085 thank you so much ❤️
🥰👍🏼❤️
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sending prayers.
That Clinique yellow moisturizer, we kids use to call it “CHICKEN FAT!” Cuz that’s what it looked like to us.
Yes! 😂😂 My mom now earns me ulta rewards points buying the jumbo size of that twice a year lol
I used that clinique moisturizer under my Estée Lauder base for years!
Yes! My mom is 60 and she used to use it. I remember sneaking and using it on my nose when it has dry skin on it...it is the only thing that helped.
I did the same thing with my mom's clinique moisturizer!
My mom always wore Design by Paul Sebastian and that perfume takes me back too! Sadly, like you said, it doesn’t smell great on me. 🙁
My mom used to use the old cover girl doe foot tube concealer for YEARS. She didn’t set it with a powder and it didn’t give her the best coverage. I gave her both formulations of the elf camo concealer and so far she likes it!
Good morning!😍 My Mom was a HUGE fan of Mary Kay & Avon back in the day.😍
I remember the Avon lady coming to our house and bringing me lip balm :) and I loved flipping through those little catalogs!
I wish Avon still made Cotillion cologne. I love that fragrance!
Not makeup, but did anyone’s Mom wear the perfume White Shoulders?
I had it in the 80s.
YYYYYEEEESSSSSS!
yes! also .l'air du temps
Yes! Mom was crazy over it. After that, she loved the perfume Opium. So very strong. Still can remember the scent.
Omg my sister wore it she passed..I cry when I smell it..so special 💜
This was my request! Thank you so much for doing it! It's the second video I've requested that you've done! ❤❤❤
The vaseline thing is for real.
Moisturize the whole face with any Olay, of course, then with a bit of vaseline use gently around your eyes and forehead (thin layer is all you need). I'm convinced this has kept the wrinkles in check. I'm 46 and no one believes me at work. Lol ;)
Brand Loyalty: Olay & Loreal.
I was influenced buy the ads in my monthly magazines. I’m 57.
I use Naked basics 2 everyday. If I ever want to add some sparkle I’ll use a single. It’s hands down my HG pallet
I’m 53 and I was a loyal Covergirl user. I taught my best friend to use makeup. No sponges, just good old hands.
I have memories of my mom (she’s 77 now) using Estée Lauder everything. Also Mary Kay.
Emily, before Milani eye primer, there was Merle Norman eye primer, my mom’s most precious makeup item for covering the redness of her eyelids.
god the double wear. i'm 24 and still use it basically every single day, i know it has such a "Mom" or old school vibe around it and sephora doesn't even carry it in most stores!! but god, that foundation is just my FAVORITE. nothing looks better on me, lasts better, matches better. i don't care if it has the old vibe haha i LOVE IT
My mom was one of the ones that only wore one makeup item - red lipstick.
Naked Basics is a great palette for traveling, then also bring a couple shimmery, mid-tone singles in various colors. So many possible combinations!
The oil of olay moisturizer was THE go to. My tia's used to love it. The scent always takes me back to childhood and a loving hug.
My mother never did use make up at all but I vividly remember a bottle of Revlon colourstay without a pump gathering dust in her cosmetics drawer.
I think you can get the Olay moisturizer in a fragrance-free version.
My mom has used this L’Oréal mineral foundation for as long as I can remember. It comes in a plastic jar and the lid has a big powder brush on it.
She also used that cover girl duo too! I wore one of hers in my senior pictures in high school 😂
Wow!!!❤️❤️❤️
I was so excited to watch this video!!!
But i am feeling it- as time goes i begin to understand that i DO NOT need an overload of makeup i need what works for me and my skin!!! and basically that is the basics I buy and buy and always keep going back to the true and tried (a good sunscreen moisturizer foundation a great brow product mascara blush eye palette -maybe for each season and some lip products ...)
Thanks for an AWESOME idea for a video!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘
