Mr. I truly take my hat off too you sir this is one capable off road machine. These trucks are as rugged as they get but they were notoriously underpowered. You have made this into one bad ass machine... How much do you have into it if you don't mind me asking.
GMSMOKE SHOW oh, I see. In the future will you be Adding them back to the vehicle, Blackout lights/ Bridge Plate??? ( I honestly think it would make a nice little addition to your Vehicle ) Other than that, It's a beautiful truck. Thank you for making and posting this video. aloha T~
Awesome rig! Just one thing I noticed ya say, an M1028 didnt have a locker up front from the factory, but instead a posi type system that they called a "Trac-loc".
None of the CUCV's had Detroit Lockers up front, the M1009 didn't have any Lockers to begin with. But I have seen some weird shit that they do in the Navy Seabees and including the USMC,where they Equip Lockers on both Axles, but not from Chevrolet.
Boy's, now that's a "truck"! Throw a case of beer on the hood, jump up on it and drink it! Try that today and your insurance will jump big time! And not from the beer!
Gas and repairs get expensive unless you are mechanicly inclined not the easiest to work on or find parts for but super fun to drive and drum brakes suck
A squarebody is still reliable with a N/A 6.2L. Those engines can make as high as 20-30 MPG. Depending on the gear ratio that will decline the efficiency,to most cases, about 21-24 MPG.6.2L's make 130-155 HP/250 TQ. A modified 6.2L can get as high as 190-215 HP/365 TQ or more.
SS 81 but they have no power to pass a car or to hardly run the speed limit or pull anything. The only thing they are good for is milage other than that they are a turd engine good for nothing
I always hated the 6.2 diesel engine I'm not sure what was wrong with my 6.2 engine but it would never run i had it more than 3 times in a diesel shop couldn't get it to cold start with starting fueled and automatic transmission fluid down the intake so I swap it out for a 454 been a daily driver ever since I swap the diesel to gas
Square body GM trucks were the best ever built. Miss my 1979 K20. Love the video and your truck. Thanks for sharing.
I know this is a couple of years old, but love the headache rack. Nice job.
Beautiful truck fella, cheers from a Canadian square body enthusiast..
Dana 60 witches kick ass in the front end of these vehicles and then you have a corporate 14 bolt in rear❤
😍
I like that you didn't do a shackle flip in the rear. And..... nice getaway license plate. Shh.
It's a badass truck keep it up
Sir , your truck is bad ass

Thanks for catching that I should have done my homework!

Nice,clean build👍
I would like to have a set of stock bumpers that came on your truck. I just saw you have a 350 engine. Very nice truck!
Did the cross over steering make the truck drive better than stock on the pavement?
I would say it's about the same on pavement. It's more for off-road performance.

What engine and did you keep 4:56 gears?
I have the same truck mine is a 1986 and mine has a 475 hp 454 in it
That is dope!
Jeremy Stuber that is dope?????
@@Wanous-hv7zo Fly, cool, awesome, etc
Wanous 1966 funky gnarly cowabunga groovy now that’s totally hawt
Why is there a gap between the front axle and spring on the driver's side?
I have wedge plates under the leafs and the axle perch is just open in the front and back.
I wanna do something like this to my 85 dodge ram but like m81 camo
I have a 1977 chevy scottsdale, would you recommend a one of those m1008's
Heck yeah but I may be a little biased!!!
Do you get decent highway mpg vs running the stock tire size?
Never checked the gas mileage, but the engine rpm is much lower.
Are You kidding .
Stock gear ratio 4.54? Or changed?
Stock 4.56
In ur opinion would that be a good first car
Depends do you like spending gas money?
Definitely

Seriously? 30 MPG?
nice truck how's it running
Runs good for a stock 350
Great looking rig. What is the width of your rims?
I believe they are 8"
What’s the wheel size and width?
He said 42 inch boggers .
@@vieuxacadian9455 Wheel size meaning 16x10 or 15x12
What size lift
8" suspension + 3" body
Fid you have to extend the drive shafts?
The front drive shaft was swapped for a k20 drive shaft and the rear worked perfectly.
When u say it was swaped is that using the k20 front or rear drive shaft
I only ask because im looking to do an 8in lift on my m1008
The front driveshaft.
K20 front shaft swap?
I bet money the gutless 6.2 can't even spin the tires on dirt?
I bought the truck with a Chevy 350 swapped in, still pretty gutless though. More horse power is in the future!
I have had nothing but 6.2's in my CUCV's and my 3+3,they moved when I gave it Throttle, they were reliable than any Duramax I had to deal with.
