2016 - 2022 BMW 740i - How To start With Dead Remote Key Fob BMW 7 Series Vehicle Key Missing Fix

A video tutorial on how to start a 2014 - 2019 BMW 7 series, including the 740i, with a dead remote key fob battery. If your BMW 7 series remote fob key has a dead battery the DIC may display VEHICLE KEY MISSING when you attempt to start it.
To start a BMW 7 series with a dead remote key fob that is not starting the engine:
Hold the BMW key fob near the key markings on the right side of the steering column, then start the BMW as normal.

I replaced my key fob battery with an Energizer battery and sometimes I still have issues either starting the vehicle. This has recently come about. The car will say key is missing and hold to the column - I will do that & it will still not recognize that the fob is at the column. Unlocks and locks the car just fine. Safe to assume my fob is starting to fail? At a loss

Thx alot 🎉 saved me roadside assistance as my x5 would not respond to the 2 keyless entry keys anymore to open and to start. After this trick, it responds again… no clue why it failed before…
