Great cleaning motivation! I liked it because it was a true, honest to goodness farm kitchen cleaning. So many cleanings already look amazing and have brand new cabinets, etc. so I think it’s nice to see down to earth and quite common household settings! And by the way- your kitchen is adorable!

What a treasure of honesty you are. Your upbringing from the old ways by your parent/grandparents, is irreplaceable with "modern ways", and 100% PRICELESS. Thank you so much for sharing your deep cleaning video... I just pray that the "modern" liberal ideology that is so rampantly infectious in our public and many subsidized Christian schools today will not stain the minds of your precious children or change the wonderful values you have taught them. NEVER feel like "modern" is better somehow...because there is absolutely no better way than the "natural, attentive and loving way" your mother and grandmother raised you under, which is also evident in the way you are raising your own. And - YES... God IS Good! And, so is your way of life; which pleases Him greatly! Be blessed.

Hello Ruthann! I just found your channel and am really enjoying it! I would like to share a little tip regarding the top of kitchen cabinets… I am quite short and have difficulty reaching up there even when standing on the counter so once a year I climb a ladder and lay wax paper there. It catches all the dust and grease. I just throw away the old paper and since everything underneath is mostly clean, just needs a quick wipe. Hope it helps you and your followers! ❤😊

One way to keep the tops of your cabinets easier to clean is to lay down wax paper, parchment paper, butcher paper or even paper towels. 🥰 You did a phenomenal job deep cleaning that kitchen ❤️ now, if I could just get the motivation to do mine 🤪

Ruthann, you are most definitely not alone!! I actually did a deep clean of my kitchen before Christmas and it was equally as bad (my refrigerator was worse due to a freezing/exploding 1/2 gallon jar of milk 😱). It is actually really nice to see a "normal" working - gets dirty kitchen vs the perfect pristine kitchens/homes on social media. Thank you for this video, even though it is not my favorite job at all, it does feel good when it's all done!

Hi RuthAnn. Here's a tip (for anyone interested) - visit your local carpet store(s) for vinyl scraps. The scraps will come in a variety of patterns but because they're not from the roll, they often give away the scraps OR sell for pennies on the dollar. As they'll be inside kitchen/bathroom cabinets (and under supplies), it won't matter compromise aesthetics. Cut to cabinet-shelf size and set inside. Don't worry about gluing.
    Pros:
    1. Protects wood/cabinet material from water damage
    2. Protects wood/cabinet material from gauging
    3. Some cushion for china/glass ware
    4. EASY CLEAN UP!
    Cons
    1. Finding the scraps
    2. Cutting the scraps (I use a razor knife like a box-cutter) to size
    3. You will loose ~1/4" of cabinet height on each shelf.
    Blessings!

Im 9 months late to this but thank you for this! I was not taught how to clean and embarrassingly after 13 years of marriage Im still clueless on how to deep clean or even clean well. This was the perfect step by step instruction that I needed! No one else gives this much detail and seem to just assume every one already knows how to do it. I don't, so, thank you!
My biggest issue is too much stuff we use very occasionally but have to store in the kitchen because we have no basement, attic, or garage.

First, wonderful inspiring reminder. Thank you.
    Two tips that work for me;
    1. I have two buckets, one filled with the hot, soapy water along with plenty of clean rags. As I clean, I toss the dirty rag in the second bucket and get a clean one from the soapy water bucket. You can go over the surfaces as often as needed, but still have a clean rag. All rags get rinsed out and put in the washer.
    2. Tops and inside of cabinets - I line them with the stick-down floor tiles. It's a time consuming job, but it's a one time thing and can be broken into sections. The floor tiles clean up and disinfect much easier than wood and are pretty much a permanent fix to shelf liners. Places to definitely use the tiles is under the sink and on the tops of cabinets that are open to collecting all the grease, even if you don't want to put them in all the cabinets. The tiles are not overly expensive and practicality never have to be replaced. I also use white, or the lightest color tile possible. In my current kitchen I even resorted to painting the inside of the cabinets white. My kichen is dark and this extra effort makes finding things so much easier.
This comes from experience of living in a 100+ year old house.
Thank you again. I'm glad all those toys got found. Someone was wondering where they were. I hope the M&Ms got eaten. They were still good. Just dust them off. 😊

Thank you so much for being so transparent. That's what working kitchens look like!! I never learned to clean from my family and my husband has taught me but still the one that knows how to truly get things clean. One suggestion my husband would add is to use a crevice cleaner attachment on a strong vacuum and vacuum the back and lean it back and vacuum the bottom of your refrigerator. As the fans on it work, it draws in dust and dirt that clog the refrigerator so it cannot work as it should. It will shorten the life of your refrigerator. Thanks for such great videos!! You edit perfectly...it shows enough to understand but moves quickly. I LOVE your teaching!!

I have lived in my apartment for 23 years. Last month the refrigerator was replaced for the first time. The floor underneath was black with grime. It took about 30 minutes to clean the wall and floor and I was using a scraper to remove the top layer. I resorted to bleach and a scrub brush to get the last of it clean.

It was wonderful seeing your kids help you clean. Deep cleaning is definitely not my favorite thing to do, especially the kitchen. After cleaning the top of my fridge and the tops of the cabinets, seeing all the dust, dirt, and grease, I was shocked. I decided to line the tops of the cabinets with newspaper to prevent this from happening again. I folded the paper to fit down on top of the cabinets, and I taped as I went across. As for my fridge, I found on Amazon a cover ment for the tops of the washer and dryer and used it for the top of the refrigerator. When it gets dirty, I just toss it in the wash. The newspaper worked, and after almost a year, I checked the tops of my cabinets and found the newspaper was dirty and greasy. I was pleased it did the job. I live in Arizona, so dust, unfortunately, is something you have to live with.

Great inspiration for deep cleaning. I try to do rooms throughout the year to spread it out, but I don’t get it done as often as I would like. I work full time from home, so I use my lunch time to clean most days.
I do it very much the same as you. I don’t buy many commercial cleaners or devices, but I did purchase an inexpensive steamer to clean my floors. I really like it and feel it does a good job.
The one difference for me is that I always wear gloves. My hands get so dry from the water that it can takes a week to get them back to normal if I do any amount of cleaning without gloves. 😊

For stubborn grease, I use a product called Krud Kutter. My understanding is that it's less toxic for the environment, and the fumes aren't as overwhelming as some cleaners. Next time you need to clean, crumple up the wax paper with all the greasy dirt on it and lay down new paper! It saves a lot of work, and is not expensive to do : ) This motivates me to do another clean after all my canning and Christmas baking

One of the best things I ever heard from a professional housecleaner, was never to ring out your rags, but to just grab another rag and then throw all of them in the wash and let the washing machine do the work for you. Your wrists and hands are taking a lot and you don’t need to make them ache anymore by ringing out your rugs. Just let the washing machine do that work for you.🎉 you just dipped a clean, rag into the soapy water, and then drop the dirty rag into a dry bucket and collect them all and then toss them in the wash

A tip I’ve learned from watching other cleaning videos is to line the tops of your cabinets with paper towels or wax paper to keep the grease from building up on the cabinets. You just throw the grease covered paper away!

Yes, that’s how my grandmother and mother taught me. I always do a spring and fall deep cleaning.
My mother is 82 years old, but as the old saying goes, you could eat from her floors.
Thank you for a wonderful inspirational video, makes me want to start my spring cleaning.
I hope you and your family have a blessed weekend!

Don't be embarrassed by the dirt. LOL. I too have a farm kitchen and I have all that dirt too. I too had a Mom and Grandma that deep cleaned twice a year. I do it once a year and have to start with the kitchen b/c it is always the worst. My pantry gets to be a mess because of all the bulk spices and baking ingredients that I use on a daily/weekly basis. I dread that part of my kitchen every year. I don't know if there is any other or better way of cleaning a kitchen except good old soap and water and elbow grease. That works for me and that is what I use. Really greasy spots on my cabinets, I use a little rubbing alcohol and a soft rag. Then rinse with warm water. Makes them shine and takes the grease right off without the lingering smell of harsh cleaners. Your kitchen looks great! Wonderful job!

I am 75 and live alone with my two dogs. Yesterdays job (besides the garden) was washing all the blinds, washing and ironing the curtains, and windows inside. I got all but one room done. I slowly pick away at spring cleaning but do it every year. I also wash the walls but not the ceiling. There is so much to do when you live alone but I make a daily to do list and most days I make it.

It is a great cleaning motivation. Today is Monday and it is the day where I strip the beds and pick up dirty clothes that my kids stockpile in their rooms. I don't like to clean either. I do it because it's necessary, but I don't enjoy it. I would rather read books, study foreign languages like Latin and German, and study theology rather than cook, clean and sew. Yet, as a housewife, those are my jobs. So your channel is my work study programme. You teach me how to do things I never learnt about in public schools. I am learning a lot about cooking that I have never known before.
When I left high school, I was only able to fry eggs or make cream of wheat. I have picked up some things along the way, but now I have figured out my mistakes in making bread thanks to you and feel brave enough to try some of your canning recipes. So, I may not be passionate about being a housewife, but since it's my job, your channel has helped. The other channels out there don't really explain how they are doing what they do. They might talk about why they are a homemaker, but they will not get into why they are doing it a certain way. You explain both. You're a teacher for those of us like me who have had to learn as I go. Domestic science has long since been abandoned in the schools and mums don't have time to teach it as they work full time and try to raise kids at the same time. At least that's the way it was in my house growing up. I came to homemaking later in my 20's after getting a university degree and trying unsuccessfully to get a job in my field. I ended up married... and with marriage came being a housewife because that's what is expected of me as a traditional Catholic. It's expected that the woman who is about to be married will quit her job and stay home to raise the kids and take care of the household chores. It's a herculean job. So thanks for being here on UA-cam. Thanks for putting out these videos and bringing us along in your daily life. Thanks for being a good teacher... especially for those of us who have had no teachers in domestic science.

A friend shared a hint with me to keep the grease and dust off of the tops of your cabinets. After cleaning, she places a sheet of wax paper on top of the cabinet. The next time she cleans, she just rolls up the wax paper and throws it away. It's inexpensive and biodegradable.

This video and others have definitely helped me get better at being a good homemaker. They show that you're not alone in these struggles and a lot of people don't like to clean, but do it because it needs to be done. As odd as that is, it makes me what to take keeping a clean home more seriously to keep the house up for my family too. 🥰

Please give the manufacturer of your buckets. The only non-plastic buckets I can find rust like crazy. Your children will remember the mixture of cleaning smells all of their lives. When they get a whiff of thieves oil, 409, and/or a bit of Ajax, it will send them right back to their childhood kitchen. For me, it’s Murphy’s Oil Soap. You, and they, may dislike the drudgery of Spring (and Fall) cleaning, but the memory will make your children homesick for you and the warmth and security of that cozy kitchen.

I had a deep clean job of a move out for a rental and none of the strong cleaners worked for on top of the kitchen cabinets that were thick with a greasy grime. I used baking soda, dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. You could use vinegar as well instead of the hydrogen peroxide. It worked wonderfully.

One time saver is a roll of white freezer paper (the kind meat's wrapped in for freezing) with which you line the tops of your cupboards. Just carefully lift and fold inwards each deep cleaning season. Be sure to fold sides upwards to cover indention "walls" too. All the dirt, grease and dust is removed on that paper 😊 This helps so much, especially for shorter people like me 😉. I use rubbing alcohol in very hot water to wash my windows, mirrors and picture glass...dry with paper towels for streak-free finish. Very hot water and vinegar for mopping the floor. You go young lady! 😊

Thank you!!! You’ve motivated me, I recently had to clean behind my fridge and clean the entire inside as well as it had to be moved to be repaired and of course had to be cleaned first! After I did that and was thoroughly disgusted with how bad both places had become I vowed to continue on and just keep cleaning my whole entire kitchen but much like you cleaning is not my passion and is just a necessity my mom I remember watching her down on her hands and knees washing the floor and using a butter knife to scrape off any hard patches on the kitchen floor that couldn’t be easily wiped off. She would wash and scrub and everything was always shining clean when she was done and even my kids called her Mrs. Clean as her nickname. Mom passed away over a year ago and while I think of her every single day I cringe at the thought of her seeing from Heaven the state of my apartment and just how disorganized it’s become and wish I could work hard to get it all packed up and looking nice and organized not to mention sparkling clean. Who knows maybe someday but in the meantime we suppose I’ll just keep plugging along one room at a time. God bless and thank you for sharing you truly have inspired me!🥰🇨🇦❤️🙏🏻

It’s hilarious. I just started doing this to my kitchen last week. Now I’m trying to get past my 2nd bout of the flu so I can finish the other wall of shelves in my kitchen. I need to clean my stove inside and out to which I am not looking forward to. It is harder to do at 68 than it was when I was younger. Keep the videos coming.
