EN: DUSTER 2 - Steering Tie Rod SNAP RCA (root cause analysis)
It is the second time we find out about a control arm snap on a Duster 2. This time we had access to images and driver debrief. We would like to thank him for allowing us to investigate the incident and do our own RCA (root cause analysis). We concluded that the risk was not communicated well by the ground crew, the visibility of the road-turn and hole shoulder was poor, the driver had little ground input from the steering due to the D2 soft electrical servo. The small 60 MT tires didn't help at 2.0 Bar and the stiff bilstein +5cm suspension reacted late/hard as most simple oil shock-absorbers do.
Our recommendation for more cautious drivers is to use AT tires on 70 with 9mm chains (only size combo that fits on 70). As for shock-absorbers we recommend the gas-oil ones from Ironman, they read the ground far better. Let us know your thoughts in the comments. Please appreciate the driver for sharing this images. 90% of accidents in offroad are hidden by their drivers, so you are lucky to see this. Many thanks got to Elod Laszlo for sharing the data.
RO: DUSTER 2 - Rupere bieleta/brat directie (analiza cauzelor)

Please remember that we know of only two Dusters 2s that broke their control arms (at a Global level that have been reported via social media). The first one was even not reported. Anyway, let us know your thoughts below, remember the extra weight, high tire pressure and rigid shock absorbers.

@Vedran Nalesnik from our test data we prefer ironman, the ironman kit is a gas/oil type of shocks, a more advanced type than the others in its price range. This type reads better the road surface. Other shocks that are basic oil designs will be more rigid as in the video. This rigidity will also heat up oil shocks and they will become war less efficient at stooping your car from hitting bumps. Also the Ironman one is the larger in diameter for the tube and rod. Our community data suggests also the reverse on your data based on leaks. As long as you apply a layer of lacquer spray on your ironmans, read on our FB Group how to correctly install cambers, you should be extracting the max our of your ironmans. Some of our members ensure that each year they clean the dirt from the shock's rods (under the rubber cap) and we grease them. This is why we prefer Ironmans, they read the ground better, they heat-up less, they are the larger ones and they are paired correctly with proper dedicated springs.

That was the OE steering tie rod (not the control arm) , the OE one is not designed to take that kind of force , needs an upgrade on that part.

Yup you are right, translation issue. No it does not need an upgrade only two cases on the planet. He needs to go back to proper ET and a more flexible shock and tire.

Hi, after watching many videos about the Duster I've noticed that while the main chassis is well protected against corrosion, front and back subchassis are noticeable sensitive to it. Are there any OEM corrections foreseen in the latest model?

its the same as before on old models, no changes. Don't worry about corrosion. 6 wax sprays its enough to do something extra

Good video!! , in the recommendations you say that you recommend 215 70 16 , that 's fine . Would there be any problem to mount 215 75 15?

The rims are non standard, by the looks on the video they have an ET somewhere between 20 and 0. That means that the leverage on the control arm is far greater than standard in a case like this. Why isn't there anything said about that?

Some visible details have been left to the public, this is why the title said - why? So congrats on finding that aspect. Though the other Duster who had the rod snapped was stock, so its not the main RC.

why??? Too fast, too much tire pressure and because the duster was not build for those kind of trails
