  • Went kayak bass fishing in Central West Virginia to a new lake. Fished for a few hours without much luck until this musky hit a jig. One of the craziest fights I've ever experienced.

    No matter how well you try to handle a fish. People will bitch and moan at you. They don't take into consideration that the thing has huge teeth and it's not exactly easy to calmly handle a musky.

      best hidden musky, walleye, and smallmouth gem in the country. ive been a lot of places and other than erie during the spawn (bc who doesnt like sight fishing for 4-6lb smallies) i would rather fish our polished turd than anywhere else in the country hahaha

      DubV1610 You ever watch bass geek? He lives in WV and is always reeling in hogs. Im jealous as I’m in Ohio and other than Lake Erie and some rivers it pretty much sucks up here lol.

    Awesome fish and good release. Two things surprised me: 1 you didn’t end up with a snapped pole. 2 the muskie swam away alive, most will die if not returned quickly.
    Good job!

    Lived in WV most of my life, curious what lake this is? Looks somewhat familiar but can’t pinpoint it.
    Congrats on the excellent catch!

    It happened to me too .. I was at ladue reservoir close to Cleveland... I get to the water before my friends .. which where 30 min late ... and I caught a northern pike... never caught one before .. so I was afraid to touch it ... but I always bring my fishing lip grip .. or whatever you called it ... and I was able to release the pike after 8 min of fight ... he swims alway just fine ... was probably that big ...

      cappin9 I revived her for about 2 minutes. She swam away just fine.

    • @johnreynolds5872
      @johnreynolds5872 7 років тому +7

      cappin9 nothing in this video indicates he killed the muskie, you can't do anything about it when you catch a muskie on accident with light tackle, it's going to be a long fight. The fish didn't go belly up and he skipped a lot of the reviving portion.

    • @bartoszbaczek3826
      @bartoszbaczek3826 5 років тому +1

      Yup, it's nice fish, but if you want to release it, you propably shouldn't keep it in your boat, but release it just after catch.

    I consider muskies and flatheads a nuisance and break them off when I get them to the boat.

      Michael Hillman well, I consider 1 musky a nuisance when I am targeting walleyes. In my 40 plus years of fishing I accidentally hooked up with more than a few. Absolutely your are a more accomplished fisherman than I, and we don't even know each other

    That fish was beyond stressed out.. there is a good chance it could of died regardless of it swimming away or not just facts.. hope you learned your lesson and you should always be prepared regardless

    • @ohioriverangler2003
      @ohioriverangler2003  7 років тому +2

      Funeral Flow I put it on fish grips and had it in the water long enough for her to swim off and be okay.

    • @jamessimmons2773
      @jamessimmons2773 7 років тому +6

      First off, Nick great catch! Sure is fun fighting those monsters on light tackle, isn't it? (of course by accident)
      Secondly, Funeral Flow, learn his lesson? He was bass fishing! So you mean to tell me, he needs to have extra gear in his kayak to be able to handle a muskie? Have you have ever fished from a kayak? No way you're going to have everything you need for every single scenario. Also, there is nothing indicating from this video, that the fish died. How about we congratulate a fellow fisherman on a job well done, and great catch? Heck I am glad he didn't club-it over the head, or leave it laying up on the bank. That happens quite often where I am from.

    • @deborahszilagyi2534

      So he should use a 7ft musky rod and 65lb braid if he goes bluegill fishing "just in case" a musky bites his bait?? Relax bud. I'm sure the musky is just fine
