It occurs to me that if Mundus is continually reborn, et'Ada do not experience linear time and mortals can ascend to become et'Ada then every single et'Ada may simply be mortals from eras in the past, present and future. In fact, this would create a really interesting paradox whereby if the Et'Ada did not choose to create Mundus then they themselves could never exist. That would in fact explain why et'Ada often exhibit mortal behaviour despite being supposedly all-knowing, all-powerful beings. In fact, aside from Anu and Padomay all the other deities have a beginning. The whole start of this is also very broken as supposedly Anu and Padomay created Sithis and Anui-El to "know themselves" yet with them existing together there was no need to do that as they could ask each other. This notion of needing to "know yourself" is also going against any idea of an all-powerful deity as these kinds of questions are very mortal in nature and suggest limitations. A need and desire to learn. There's the possibility that at the end of each Kalpa there are two survivors who become the primordial deities for the next. We've seen mortals ascend to et'Ada before and there seems to be little difference in power between primordial entities and manifested et'Ada such as Lorkan. In fact, he was created to destroy the universe which suggests that this was something Sithis could not do themself. It would be interesting to see the current Kalpa end in the next Elder Scrolls game with you and the main villian ascending to be the next primordial beings. It may just be that Elder Scrolls borrows from norse religion and has a Ragnarok style event where all et'Ada are killed off except two and the war just destroys almost everything in Aurbis thereby needing creation all over again. Those who claim to be from previous Kalpas would be little more than pieces of existence that are included as Aurbis is remade by the two survivors of "Ragnarok" who represent order and chaos. This idea of a war to end reality is certainly suggested by the various realms for the dead where heroes of legend are gathered for some future purpose. The "Next Pounce" does imply an attack or assault on something too.
So you mean that the two beings that represent chaos and order (Anu and Padomai) were two gods from the previous Kalpa? And maybe the ones who will represent those things in the future cycle are gods that are alive today (maybe Molag Bal and Talos will be the next Anu and Padomai. Both represent two sides of domination, just like chaos and order, two sides of the same coin). But of course more gods will survive (just like Ragnarok), if not gods that are form previous kalpas wouldn't exist. That if I understand right your theory. Also, I love that theory (the one that all et'adas were mortals in previous kalpas

It's interesting to think when considering Mehrunes Dagon came from another cycle, that his cult was called the Mythic Dawn, like it's actually a reference to his involvement in the dawn era. It seems to me that he was like the Alduin of the last world and the current one is just broken. All the messing around with time and such may have actually broken the cycle entirely, leaving TES series as a linear timeline for Bethesda to make more games while keeping the cycle as canon. A little weird to think about, but that makes sense to me, that the cycle is just an old thing at the start of TES, and now it's linear instead, but some can remember how it was.
To the point about glitches being feature, my favourite meta take is you know how dreams are weird as fuck and things happen that make no sense? Bugs are just weird shit happening in the dream of the Godhead. When the LDB flies with a bucket and clips through walls with plates, it's just the dream getting weird.
I thought Magnus and his followers left this universe after Mundus was created/finalized. Aren’t the stars in the sky explained as being the holes/portals Magnus and his peeps used to leave?
@@brmblazer nice name 😂, yes they did. They are Aedra cause they helped build Mundus. But I thought they fled before their power could be taken otherwise they would end up like the other aedra. So they fled, kept their godly powers, and doing who knows what while the other gods sleep. Since deadra and aedra are mostly the same they should be able to interact more than aedra.
@@michaelposey3321 The Magna-Ge are more powerful than the other Aedra, but they're definitely below 100% of their pre-Mundus power level. They fled when they discovered Lorkhan's trick, but they had already gotten started and given some of their power to the project. The initial power loss may not have gone unnoticed - "Hey, I feel a little tired today. I've never felt tired since existence began. Lorkhan, wtf." "Heh, okay guys, funny story . . ." That said, Magnus likely surrounded himself with more powerful spirits to begin with, anyway. Meridia can stand amongst the Daedra, despite her reduced power level, because her 85% is still stronger than some of the Princes at their respective 100%. Merid-Nunda was strong.
As for what the Magna-Ge are up to . . . I don't know that we have any evidence of what they're doing, or that it has any impact on Mundus whatsoever. They gave up on the project a long time ago. All we really get from them now is felt through the existence of magicka, slowly leaking in from Aetherius through the holes the Magna-Ge tore in the sky. If you're interested in the speculation, there's a neat mod that explores the idea. Spectraverse. I think that's pretty much it, though. I think the Magna-Ge sort of escaped the Kalpic cycle, as the cycle seems tied to Mundus. Perhaps all the planes of Oblivion exist outside the cycle, since the actual Daedra (by original definition) didn't contribute to Mundus at all, and so were not bound to the cycle that came with it.
Theory: The kalpa ending and restarting is like the godhead waking up and going back to sleep/dream. Also, those who achieve chim are aware of the godhead and all. But does this mean those who achieve chim can loop around kalpa cycles?

Yo what! That part about Bugs being legit features of elder scrolls lore was hilarious. Bethesda should make you all junior Bards stuck in some classroom vigorously debating history and theology. Drew would be my follower lol
This is a bit out there, what if Lorkhan was all like "hey other spirits, wanna make a cool world together by combining our spheres of influence, and becoming a super power?" And the Aedra/magnus magne ge were like "sure it'll be like a perfect orderly world." The Lorkhan was like "psych its a world of free will and i am using your powers to power it." Then the betrayed group gets pissed and try to kill him, only to find that they can't kill him, since he like them is a part of the world. Now since Lorkhan can't be destroyed, but would desire to be whole again, the kalpas are really a cycle of Lorkhan getting too close to collecting his pieces and the aedra and magnus destroying and remaking the world to rehide and stop it from happening. Meanwhile Lorkhans ultimate goal is to break the cycle and allow mundus to thrive on its own.
'I am the Sun-Shadow at your back...the Moon-Gloom to light your path...and all shades of gray inbetween'. Mistress Chance or Lady Luck would be a fine brush!
What if the "Adjacent Places" are in fact not different Kalpa's, but more literally "Adjacent Dimensions?" Existing at the same time, but being drastically different, or almost the same, save for small details? Here's my theory: Akatosh created "linear time" by splitting "time" itself between countless dimensions existing parallel to each other. Much like the barrier between Oblivion and the Mundus; so there are barriers between the various Adjacent Places. Its only during Dragon Breaks, where the barriers between those places also Break, allowing the various possibilities of time to spill over and mix. Other from that, the possibilities in time are kept separated, to create "linear" time.

Interesting parts about this mishmash podcast. 00:45 - 01:54 Scott is talking all the cool conjectures, extrapolations they are about to make about the topic. But, you know. Kalpa is easy to understand. A long period of time as part of a cycle (that implies its destruction before it is recreated) 02:31 THE Kirkbride once said that the Dawn Era was the end of the first Kalpa. Merethic era is (perhaps) Day one of the new Kalpa. Also Kalpa. 03:21- 08:45 About the official lore. In Skyrim, the main story line refers to that concept. It is known by nordics (Alduin) and reguards (Satakal) and whateva those lizardmen believe. 09:30 - 13:40 A passionate discussion that established that the further away from the defecation of Trinimac by Boethiah, the more mundane it becomes. a discussion on relativism and geometry ensued. In the end we dont know really. As Michael pointed out: there are mythical things happening all the times.
I've always wondered on what level of existence kalpas happen? Like is the reset on the level of mundus or beyond that including the realm of the gods?
I don't believe that the Gods are truly "weakened" They are tired and each Kalpa they slowly regain their power for a war at the beginning of the next Dawn Era
I wonder how things differ with the more spectacular events of the Dawn and Merethic Eras, like Trinimac being corrupted into Malacath - did a Trinimac exist in all previous Kalpas, and would Malacath now take his place in any future ones? Has Lorkhan been killed in every cycle, or is that new to this cycle - and in the case of the latter, in a next Kalpa, would Lorkhan be returned to life?
There is a cult of orcs that believe Trinimac can be restored and Malacath essentially is keeping this from happening by monopolizing all faith from the orcs. Thus by rejecting Malacath and embracing Trinimac they can restore their god and people. As for Lorkhan...he isn't truly dead. He can't be killed. His existence is tied to Nirn in a fundamental way. He is denied physical existence but his spirit and essence are ever potent. The fact the heart keeps popping up is proof of this.

I really hope the next game really returns to the philosophical/mythological/mystical roots of the series. Sure there’s a ton of lore in Skyrim, but you really have to dig deep for it. It’s like they sacrificed their cooler ideas for mainstream appeal, but left a little trail of bread crumbs for us hardcore fans. I don’t want the next game to be like a university lecture, but I would like to actually experience the lore without having to read all the in game books and have to listen to podcasts (no offense, you guys are awesome) to really experience the amazing lore in these games.
26:00 “what if that just makes it linear?” Well if you look at “unbind the dragon” as similar to Norse mythology, Jormungandr letting go of his tail is one of the signs of Ragnarok, and Norse myth is circular in that a new cycle of gods and mortals and giants would start again. So an ouroboros going from a circle to a line isn’t necessarily permanent.
The issue being that in Norse mythos, the new world after Ragnarök won't go the same (i.e. Loki doesn't turn evil, Thor stops hammering everything while hammered)
It is interesting in this context that Alduin has the ability to eat those chilling in Sovngarde (and I assume other planes of dreamsleeve). No next kalpa for those shmucks!
i know this video was made before the announcement but another thing to add is that mehrunes dagon is invading of some sort in the second era and its how he learned how to properly make the oblivion gates in the 3rd era so that's something else to add that's mythic in the second era
Is a Kalpa not a time break? I recall reading a book on time break in Skyrim, while playing Skyrim. Or are the time breaks different events that take place within a Kalpa?
Maybe the Kalpa is what keeps the elder scroll world in that mideval fantasy setting for all time, and dragonborn ending it is what brings that sci fi future kirkbright wrote about Both speak with laughs and jokes, then Drew comes in all serious voice like he narrating a video lol well he is a daedrologist, a very serious and real profession
Theory - The 12 worlds before Nirn are seperate timelines of an astronomical gigantic dragonbreak that happens every time a new kalpa cycle starts. The previous kalpa cycle was of Lyg.

During the conversation with Paarthanax, I couldn't help but think-- how many are more powerful than destiny? If the world was /supposed/ to end, would it not have? Are Gormlaith, Hakon, and Felldir truly stronger than what is fated to happen? Is the Dragonborn so powerful that he can change the fate of the whole world? I think that were the world actually supposed to have ended, it would have. There is something that hasn't happened that is delaying the end of this Kalpa. It isn't that the universes end is be prevented, its that the universe is preventing its end for some reason.

@@ivans.5959 Not two god's, two mortals who attained supreme power and where the final survivors of the war at the end of each Kalpa. From a gameplay perspective they'd be the protagonist and the antagonist. One seeking to destroy, the other seeking to save. The dichotomy that leads to the creation myth of the next Kalpa.
Can we get a giant podcast on the complete timeline and history of Tamriel? I think that would be really cool.
I thought you were saying, "Calper." Huh, we learn something new everyday I suppose😂
This. Whole. Time. I thought i knew better! Whenever I heard that 'A' sound my brain just converted it to an 'R' because they're Australian!
SWEAR!
Yep.
Same.
Too aussie for their own good
I have to comment on my favorite character in Skyrim, Herma Mora, he whom knows the past the present and the future at the same time, and Especially when he says to the Dragonborn 'You will serve me whether you like it or not, even though you will not know it?', he obviously see's where the Dragonborn may go and where his destiny leads in a variable future. :)
Hey fudgemuppet, the collective. You guys rule. Ive been watching your lore videos forever and this podcast is just such a treat. Theres just a lot to learn from your tiniest discussions and digressions. That, and it helps you come up with video topics for even more lore. Its fantastic. I love this podcast. Keep doing it please! Your loving fan, Kucoz
Thanks for the podcast guys fill the void while waiting for the next tes game ❤️❤️
Waiting for this one for a long time
Ikr everytime they said kalpa I was like...wtf is that🙃
I was waiting for this one too, the kirkbride metaphysical metanarrative is proof he should be rehired as main writer.
The weird mythic shit didn't end as the kalpa went on, it just got more subtle.
29:23 That's how I always interpreted it myself. Thank you Scott!
"The legendary hillok scene" yes my favorite, REMAN!!
I have a lore question for Y'all
What are Magnus and the Magne Ge doing in Aetherius?
Do they interact with Mundus?
Right? Arn’t they technically the only full powered aedra that exist?
Lorkhan, wtf." "Heh, okay guys, funny story . . ."
That said, Magnus likely surrounded himself with more powerful spirits to begin with, anyway.
My new favorite part of Sunday mornings is waking up and listening to these brilliant, handsome gentlemen talk about Elder Scrolls.
Theory: The kalpa ending and restarting is like the godhead waking up and going back to sleep/dream. Also, those who achieve chim are aware of the godhead and all. But does this mean those who achieve chim can loop around kalpa cycles?
Damn you know it's early when a fudgemuppet video only has 12 likes and 4 comments
Nah bro its 12 am when this shiz out
@@bargun5889 well it's 7am for me. But I wasn't referring to the time it came out. I ment that it doesn't have very many likes, comments, and views, which will change in time.. That's why I said it was early.
@@thebeaver8456 Yeah ik im australian just like these guys and just think its odd they uploaded now
@@bargun5889 didn't know they live in Australia thanks for the info. Watched them for a couple of years now and never knew that.
Awesomesauce! Can’t wait to hear you guys tackle the creation story, chim/amaranth, dragonbreaks and other more esoteric topics. Keep it up fudgemuppet!
So Basically The Thalmor are trying to do the same thing Dagon did in that Kalpa
I think most of the confusion comes from the fact that Tove wanted CALIPERS to build a flying ship and Ma'iq and Wylandrieh(spelling?) both reference the fact that calipers aren't in skyrim
These podcasts have been fantastic... Would love NPC discussions like their history etc
Yo what! That part about Bugs being legit features of elder scrolls lore was hilarious. Bethesda should make you all junior Bards stuck in some classroom vigorously debating history and theology. Drew would be my follower lol
I thought party-snax was speaking Dova...I learn quite a bit from these podcasts.
17:00 LotR kinda starts with an epic battle. It may be a flashback but it is how the trilogy began if I remember correctly
That's the movie
In the book I believe it kinda sets the whole story and that takes a while if I can remember
@@ciaranmck4469 Oh yeah I did talk abour the movie but I think in the book it was brought up relatively early too but I could misremember on that one
This is a bit out there, what if Lorkhan was all like "hey other spirits, wanna make a cool world together by combining our spheres of influence, and becoming a super power?" And the Aedra/magnus magne ge were like "sure it'll be like a perfect orderly world."
The Lorkhan was like "psych its a world of free will and i am using your powers to power it." Then the betrayed group gets pissed and try to kill him, only to find that they can't kill him, since he like them is a part of the world.
What if the "Adjacent Places" are in fact not different Kalpa's, but more literally "Adjacent Dimensions?"
Existing at the same time, but being drastically different, or almost the same, save for small details?
Here's my theory: Akatosh created "linear time" by splitting "time" itself between countless dimensions existing parallel to each other.
Much like the barrier between Oblivion and the Mundus; so there are barriers between the various Adjacent Places.
Its only during Dragon Breaks, where the barriers between those places also Break, allowing the various possibilities of time to spill over and mix.
Other from that, the possibilities in time are kept separated, to create "linear" time.
The real lore question, which 90's direct to VHS kid's movie protagonist does Scott look like?
Jonathan taylor thomas?
"The next world can care for its self " A fair answer.
The kalpa is where my hate and love for this concept and it's implications meet.
If the kalpa was supposed to end with alduin in skyrim then the last dragonborn would not have been born
˝Pruzah. As good a reason as any. There are many who feel as you do, although not all. Some would say that all things must end, so that the next can come to pass. Perhaps this world is simply the Egg of the next kalpa? Lein vokiin? Would you stop the next world from being born?'' even paarthunax himself seems to not know whether a kalpa is real or not and he was close to alduin , and on top of that some say they are real some say they are not , and obviously as you mentioned if if alduin was supposed to eat this ˝kalpa˝ then why is he defeated , sure he wanted to rule the world rather than eat it , but still , but im sure the galaxy brains over at teslore will make up some stuff to fill in the blanks
Including himself Lorkhan deceived 12 gods didnt he? Those were the 12 worlds of creation?
This is going to be a good one! Such an interesting topic and one I've wanted to hear more about for ages 😁
I love that kalpas aren't a hard reset of the universe and in the new cycle there are still remnants of the previous ones
Interesting parts about this mishmash podcast.
00:45 - 01:54 Scott is talking all the cool conjectures, extrapolations they are about to make about the topic. But, you know. Kalpa is easy to understand. A long period of time as part of a cycle (that implies its destruction before it is recreated)
02:31 THE Kirkbride once said that the Dawn Era was the end of the first Kalpa.
You guys have amazing voices!!!
I don’t mind if I get a visit from Vivic, however imma have to ask him to keep his “milk fingers” away from me haha
I've always wondered on what level of existence kalpas happen? Like is the reset on the level of mundus or beyond that including the realm of the gods?
This is my favorite one so far.
I put my job on pause to understand what in oblivion Scott was trying to get across
I don't believe that the Gods are truly "weakened"
They are tired and each Kalpa they slowly regain their power for a war at the beginning of the next Dawn Era
So basically weakened
galaxy brain
So when I remove ITMs with xedit, are my files breaking the Kalpic cycle? Has leather armour achieved Chim?
“They’re gonna parachute down to nirn” Elder scrolls VI: Battle royal
Been watching you guys for a while and I've been waiting for this for longer. thanks a bunch, you guys are the best
I know you expressed caution about going into real world mythology, but remember you guys did try to launch a philosophy series a while back: Try to use this as your back door for that.
One of my favorite obscure bits of lore - KALPAS
I am high risk. I lost my job. No lifing this channel helped me get through this shit. I'm in line to get a vaccine. When I get job again, I'm going to find your patreon and become a contributor.
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long
26:00 “what if that just makes it linear?”
Well if you look at “unbind the dragon” as similar to Norse mythology, Jormungandr letting go of his tail is one of the signs of Ragnarok, and Norse myth is circular in that a new cycle of gods and mortals and giants would start again. So an ouroboros going from a circle to a line isn’t necessarily permanent.
The issue being that in Norse mythos, the new world after Ragnarök won't go the same (i.e. Loki doesn't turn evil, Thor stops hammering everything while hammered)
This is a thing I always wonder about, I'm looking forward to listening
It is interesting in this context that Alduin has the ability to eat those chilling in Sovngarde (and I assume other planes of dreamsleeve). No next kalpa for those shmucks!
My favourite boys! Loved the podcast, keep them coming! :)
My GOD, it's DREW THE DAEDROLOGIST! The NOT MADE UP Degree and Major lol
Scott my dude. You have one hell of a windows peak and it looks so nice.
OBVIOUSLY "Kalpa" is just an alternative name for "Calipers"
One of the best movie franchises starts out with an epic battle. LotR The Fellowship of the Ring starts out with the last alliance battle in Mordor.
Awesome! Ive been waiting for this one!
i know this video was made before the announcement but another thing to add is that mehrunes dagon is invading of some sort in the second era and its how he learned how to properly make the oblivion gates in the 3rd era so that's something else to add that's mythic in the second era
Is a Kalpa not a time break? I recall reading a book on time break in Skyrim, while playing Skyrim. Or are the time breaks different events that take place within a Kalpa?
Maybe the Kalpa is what keeps the elder scroll world in that mideval fantasy setting for all time, and dragonborn ending it is what brings that sci fi future kirkbright wrote about
Both speak with laughs and jokes, then Drew comes in all serious voice like he narrating a video lol well he is a daedrologist, a very serious and real profession
16:55 Gladiator
Theory -
The 12 worlds before Nirn are seperate timelines
of an astronomical gigantic dragonbreak that happens
every time a new kalpa cycle starts.
The previous kalpa cycle was of Lyg.
When will you guys talk about ideal elder scrolls vi if it were high rock and Hammerfell?
At gym listening fam early morning. Also hope my copy of cyberpunk comes this week 😂 still trying to stay off UA-cam cyberpunk content. Another awesome pod cast 👏 thank you 🙏 ❤️
Ooooof
This was my favorite so far, and I've listened to almost all of your elder scrolls lore vids. Great job guys, this shit is dope as fuck.
Hey guys, it’s not Nate here, but I’m still glad to be here!
"Bugs are part of the lore..."
Me: I knew it.
Was a buddhist monk. Can confirm in thai buddhism, the kalpa is 5000 yrs and is measured with the return of buddha. We are halfway through this kalpa (2563 yrs)
