I've done opening day at Keystone the last two years. Two years ago I was there very early, and had one great run, before the slope became overwhelmingly crowded. Last year I took a different approach and showed up at 1:30 in the afternoon, when most people were already leaving. It definitely made for a less hectic experience, and by 3:00 was skiing right onto the chair. Of course the snow conditions were much worse by that time of day, but overall, a better experience. A 2 mile run on opening day, with tree line to tree line coverage, and not a rock in site, is quite an accomplishment. And within 10 days it will usually be a full 3 miles to the gondola base. But now that I've done that twice, I'll wait this year until they at least have Spring Dipper open, to split up the crowd.
Skiing in the early season is awesome, but only until 12:00 rolls around. I take a couple runs in the morning and just peace out after. Not worth skiing on ice & exposed rocks - plus you can go into either Silverthorne or Dillon for some food afterwards! 🍕🍗🥪
Early season is when I get my lessons in for the season. I'm still a beginner so I don't bother with Schoolmarm until Spring Dipper is open or perhaps once Breck is also open.
@@angelinaoutside Schoolmarm == white ribbon of death the first 3 weeks of the season. LOL Keystone is still great for first timer or very early beginner lessons.
I live in Texas and started skiing for the first time ever earlier this year after buying a set of skiis and ski boots off facebook marketplace. I’m already asking my hubby when we can plan another trip! 😊
My family and I will be in Breckenridge in mid-November for the first time. Based on your experience, what can we expect in terms of snowfall? Thank you for advance.
Mid-November is hard for Breck. Depending on the year, they are either just opened or only a week into the season. The few greens are very iffy with ice. Keystone is a better bet mid-November.
Depends on a lot of things from time of year, snow that day, and how early you leave. As an example, if you leave Denver around 6am, it’ll take over 2 hours during peak season
It's worth going for the novelty but not staying all day. Excited for the new season
Agreed!
so hype!!

Keystone really is so impressive! I like to go get those first couple runs, then chill for a bit before going back in the afternoon haha
Can't Wait!! They all started blowing snow last night!
Yessss soon 🤞

Makes sense! Schoolmarm can be so dangerous early season!

There are no guarantees, but at that point, theres usually only a few green and blue runs open. Expect it to be fairly crowded.

How much is typically open in mid December? Heading to Colorado then park city at that time.
Depends on the snow we get but usually it won’t be the whole resort in most places but there will usually be some black runs by then
How long is the drive to a basin from Denver on weekends?

If you like man made snow… you should come visit the mid west 😂
Let’s not go that far 😂
