My good Kuwaiti friend Fatima AlMattar, who is a fellow world traveler and content creator, has the most bizarre travel story that happened to her about 2 months ago. I just caught up with her on Zoom this morning and here is our conversation!
Long story short, Fatima was on a 11 day cruise to Antarctica when the Covid-19 outbreak began. When she departed Ushuaia, Argentina (March 9th) things were quite normal... then she lost phone signal for 7 days as she enjoyed the beautiful wonders of Antarctica, but when she finally got internet, the world was not the same.
The Argentinian government would not let them dock back in Argentina, so they were forced to go to Montevideo, Uruguay and get on an immediate flight to Los Angeles because the Kuwait airport was closed.
Then you won't believe what her journey was like to fly back home (a few weeks ago) during the heat of the pandemic.
Thank you Fatima for sharing your courageous story, and I am so glad that you're safe at home! Follow her Instagram and UA-cam to keep up with her travels:

Fatty joker . Are you still alive?
Yeah. Thousands of years early

I'd wish i live in your land. At least your government was quick!!
You didn’t block the Chinese
That must have been a frightening experience, glad she made it back!
I see you everywhere my guy, it’s kinda frightening
you again it must be a sign

The Kuwaiti government helped her get on a flight to the US? Wow that was very kind of them to sponsor every Kuwaiti outside their country. Antarctica is beautiful
The US government wanted to charge me $1500 to “evacuate” me from the Middle East . I was like no thanks I’ll stay
Avery the Cuban-American agreed
Xiahoud true, but it was a noble act nonetheless.
I have no idea how i keep finding you in the comments
Thanks I’m from Kuwait
Our story was not as crazy thankfully, but we can definitely resonate with the fear and will to head back home immediately when everything was shutting down. We had just started to travel full time and were in Bali when the whole world turned upside down. Glad Fatima made it safe back home!
a
Love ittt!!!!! Thanks my friend for the feature! Its definitely a story to remember. Can't wait for us all to go back to traveling normally and for you to travel to the 6 countries you have left :D
Loved your positive and calm approach in situations like these.. very inspiring.. good job & all the best for your upcoming travels :)
Fatima is fearless! I appreciate her positive attitude. I hope you both are able to get back to traveling soon. Take care!
Are you also traveler
I'd say ignorance and idiocy instead of fearless.
@@Singdollar why u say that
@@drorthomaster and plus every month the Kuwaiti government pays 100 kd or approximately 300 $ to Thier citizens even to people who are not having a job that's why most off the kuwaitis have a high income
Wow Kuwait government paid for her flights and hotels, I was stuck in the Philippines for 18 days the swedish government didn't do anything luckily i did find a flight on my own but had to pay 1700$...
Vad förvänta du dig att dem skulle göra dem gör ju ingenting
@@javlahora7401 Hoppades på någon slags av hjälp men ingen info eller någon hjälp alls
Blackhammer I was stuck in Saudi Arabia with my mom dad and two sisters for 2.5 months! And the worst part is the US Embassy did nothing for us except give us alerts. Thankfully we found a flight and made our way back to texas where we were on 14 day quarantine. But the crazy part is the US is doing nothing at the airport except putting social distancing rules.
Blackhammer ok jag skulle åkt till Turkiet man var tvungen att avboka som tur att jag inte fastna där
damn $1700
How much you paid for your citizens??
Kuwait : Yes
You ruined it with the emojis but ok
My entire family lives in Kuwait 🇰🇼 and it’s my home and because of the virus the entire country is in INSANE lockdown like not a single soul was outside and it felt like the apocalypse.
Kuwait 🇰🇼 is a really good country personally I won’t live any where else
@@aizzy4603 your parents also born in Kuwait ??
I get you man I live there
Her msg was the most motivating and positive thing i heard in the last 5 months. Thank you!
Aparajita Vepa agreed, the only thing thats in the media is negative news about the damn virus
person: says coronavirus
youtube: DEMONITIZED
Why tho actually?
@@Jamesonnnnn Because people are using that in their titles for views. Legitimate information might not reach people because of that.
@@abhiinair yeah. And lots of lots of fake stories to mislead people.
@@abhiinair because there is no legitimate information....its all a scam
actually no its the opposite, if you say coronavirus it gets reverse-demonitzed and it has like sites about corona virus and stuff popping up right below ur video and u get a bunch of more ads

Wow, from Kuwait to Antarctica(from very hot to very cold)!
kuwait is cold too in winter
How cold?
Drew, you always make my day better with these videos! :)

wow Fatima is so inspiring and her story incredbile, thank you Drew for sharing this with us, I love your content and have been for the past maybe 5 years already!!
The most positive story I have heard in so many months. This is the magic of Drew Binsky who gets inspiring people to talk on his videos and Instagram live chats. Keep up the good work Drew. Looking forward for more such kind of videos.
Thanks for putting the effort in to still make videos for us :) We’ve been in lockdown in NZ and I’ve had a lot of anxiety but since binge watching your videos and having something else to think about, I’ve been feeling heaps better. We appreciate you!
Me: thankyou for the subscribers and support
Drew: it is not a problem at all
It was really great content indeed. One thing I noticed which also applies to me is most Backpackers and travellers have really strong mentality on risk management, conflict resolution and always keep themselves calm and analytic. It makes really huge highlight during this pandemic moment.
I would love to hear more about how traveling impacts our mindset and behaviour to be resilient ! Thank you and greetings from Myanmar !
Wow. This is such an exciting story. I am so glad you got back home safely to Kuwait.
Hi Drew! Keep up the great work. Another excellent and interesting video.
Keeping positive is crucial 👌
Positive for corona and hiv yes
Whole world:- Stay At home
Meanwhile Drew's video title:- Watch her crazy covid-19 trip
Oh hell to the no. Thank God she is an experienced traveler, but I swear my anxiety would have taken my life 😳And thankfully the Kuwait gov covered their expenses wow! I don’t think they would do the same for US citizens?
Definitely not😂
The US has probably 100 times or more citizens living or traveling abroad than kuwait. It would be extremely expensive
Wish other countries were like Kuwait, helping people rather than ignoring them
I'm from Montevideo and it's great to see al the positive comments about how the situation was handle here, many many foreginers where trapped in antartica and left to their countries through our country.
Special kudos to kuwaiti governments. They really played a vital role and showed their great concerns on thier citizens.
Love it! Thank you Drew♥
Fatima is a gifted story teller and I went in search of her channel immediately after watching this!
Same..I also went to look for other videos abt her
Omg I am one of the first two hundred viewers yayy! I am glad that I get to see your videos Drew makes me push forward my travel bug. I really wanted the last giveaway for duolingo and tried my best but lost. I hope my luck works for me this time🧁❤️ keep inspiring us Drew🍓🌼❤️🧁
Once again remember not to fear the unknown. I'm very glad for the Kuwait government taking care of its people. How blessed the people are!

I’m in love with Ms.Fatima... I have always wanted to meet a Arabic woman (even tho Kuwaiti is not exactly fully Arabic) but Arabic world none the less and some of the same languages and dialects are the same or very similar. Anyway, a Arabic woman that is interested in The Latino part of the world and can speak the Spanish language and could teach me to speak Arabic and teach me the way life is in there world. Beautiful people. I think maybe it’s just a lot to do with I’m fascinated with the way of life of other people in the world no matter where they come from. I’m American, but I have a parent that is from Mexico and I lived there for years and even went to school there as a kid. There is amazing people everywhere!!!
I'm in Argentina. Everything happened REALLY fast here, it's true. Like, in two days we went from watching Italians on their balconies singing to each other to being on complete lockdown.
Yay l am early. I love ur videos. When I am bored I only watch ur videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️💓💕💕💕❤️❤️❤️💗💗💗❣️❣️
The same happened to me nearly with Hurtigruten on MS Midnastol early March
Wow! Nice story 👌
Great talk 💕
12:49 Why can't you understand that Corona life is so hard when you are still a student?!
That's hightech! woah! nice job Kuwait! Be safe Fatima!
Hey drew! Good to see you man
How u doin🙂
I handled my frustrated guests in Bali Airport for not getting their flight home...
But this kind of frustration.. Omg
Tough girl. Stay strong💪💪
Thanks for this positive message, Fatima. I had to cancel a trip to Argentina on March 13th, which was a Friday, btw, and I am still bummed about it. 🙁
What a crazy story! And when I saw the ship Fatima disembarked I noticed that she was traveling with one of my friends. A girl I got to know skydiving with her was a tour guide on the ship. The crew of the ship had the choice to fly home if possible or stay on the ship and go to the Netherlands. She chose the latter and it was an awesome cruise - a cruise ship with just the crew and 30 days on water. That international crew knit very close friendships there!
Wow! That's incredible the Kuwait government stepped up and paid for her flights and accomodations home. We've been stuck in India for 9 weeks, going on 10...
Love your video Drew ❤️ and Fatima's experiences! 🤩 Love and respect from Pakistan 🇵🇰💚
Much Love From Africa ✊🏾
Hope you all stay safe! and we can go back to safe travel again soon.
Love your vids
Wow, truly inspiring.
Oh my God drew is a master in making making amazing videos
The crazier story is launching people into space on the falcon. Imagine. While some of us are at home can't leave on a flight, here history is being made by the SpaceX team.
haha for sure, I mean imagine here we are can't take a flight out of country.
Absolutely, woah! Crazy

Wow this is so so inspiring.
Drew, you should visit CALABAR CITY in Southern Nigeria. It is a pretty city with infrastructure comparable to Windhoek. Calabar has a lot of highlands, mountains, green valleys and rolling hills and a network of cable cars needed to get around. Calabar City also has a theme park that looks very much like DisneyLand. It is 100 percent safe. Please visit. Happy Birthday !!!
Loved it. Respect from japan
I get inspired to travel from you drew binsky
love you from india from a 12 year old boy.....
I am from Uruguay and if you want I can explain you more about this topic Drew
Her story is touching
I am so proud of my country Kuwait but sadly now we have 22 thousand cases and we can’t leave our houses for a while and eid was so depressing whiteout my whole family
Amazing story... 😮😮
Love her voice and cuteness ❤️😜
My friends were once stuck in a suite in a hotel. Does this count as being stuck?
The contrast between how a tiny Arab country is handling Sars COV 2 is insane when you compare it to the incompetence the US has shown in the crisis.
Having country protecting you is Amazing; because i live in somalia 🇸🇴 you are on your own .
Wow beautiful story
Please do world's most expensive cities and countries
Gladly she is back home.
What a great experience !!!

Hi I just wanted to ask as soon as you can can you please visit Hounduras 🇭🇳
Those days 😑 glad it’s over.
Can you do video of finland some day. After corona of course
It is really great when your country takes care of you and even spends money on you at no cost to you, but when your country does absolutely nothing or even worse fleeces you, it's a real bummer
