Every cosplay i go into i admit to myself “i have no idea what i am doing”. It keeps me from getting too cocky, honestly. I learn so much from watching.
I’m not a cosplayer but I do really like making and building things. I find your videos very fun to watch. You and your husband are very good at your craft. Cheers.

Omg I can't believe when you say u don´t how to sew, I've been making/sewing cosplays for 12 years and it's a date that I still say "I do not know what I'm doing", You're an incredible cosplayer, not knowing what you're doing makes it better!
Open up UA-cam and this is the first thing that pops up, yay! Looks awesome! P.s you've inspired me to try making my own foam armour, I hope it turns out well!
This enthusiasm of yours, it is absolutely amazing! Combined with mad skills, tools and great foam.. I LOVE it! Keep up the great work. Cheers from Sweden!
I'm the opposite of you, I've got sewing down pretty well but I've never done props or armor and my current "project I have underestimated" is Mercy from Overwatch. I've never built wings, armor, or weapons so this is going to be fun.
Can't wait to finally get to meet you guys when you come to Kansas City Planet Comicon next weekend! You guys are awesome and I've been following you for years. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for letting me know there exists such a thing like wonder clips! Did not know before i started seeing your videos. They are amazing! So much easier then pins!
The thumbnail left me wondering what a female-free Lancer was, and why Kamui would do that build... I love all your builds. You make it look so simple.
My very first project took me about a year :O mostly because of my lack of confidence to move forward- I spent lots of time sanding down and repriming pieces. In the end I had something to be proud of still- even over all the mistakes and time spent. Hey- at least I am more realistic with time budgeting because of that! haha always always always make me giggle and get inspired. from a teeny tiny part of the community- thanks for what you do Svet :)
Sewing clips are SO much easier than pins, especially for new sewers. Unfortunately, they can be a little expensive :( but I think an investment of 30-50 of them is totally worth it! It's very comforting to see you doing something that you aren't a 100% professional at. Maybe that's a weird thing to say, but it makes your skill in other areas seem more achievable, since it's clear that you practice really hard to become good at things.
This only suggest, try use kids blunt scissors when cutting yourself out mock pattern if decide not use point scissors. I love the cosplay and turn out awesome.
so when i started in 2015 there were almost no tutorials out there and i tried making a set of fallout T-45 power armour, for my first project, i did manage it but only because i spent months refusing to give up. to note researching this is when i found this channel and the expanding foam shoulders video.
Cosplays I underestimated at the beginning? Pretty much all of them. Making my Hero armor for Tenya Iida was probably the one I underestimated the most. “Can’t be that hard! I’ve made foam armor before!” Oh I was wrong
A few years ago i started making a knight costume but accidentally started to make REAL chain mail and steel plate armor. i am still working on it because steel is hard to manipulate. When/If i ever finish it, it will be way too heavy for cosplay. i have about 35% of the chain shirt done and it already weighs over 20lbs 0.0 WISH ME LUCK!!!
I LOVE your work! You've inspired me so much and made me want to work harder to make my cosplay look better. And you are so right about how cosplayers look at pictures and think things will be easy. Hahaha The costume I'm working on now has taken me a year to make. I had to learn to sew and work with worbla and leather. It has taken me a year to do because of my job and of course money, but it's been worth it and I now only have a week left and I'll be completely done! I will be going to my first con this year and I'm so excited!!! Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge. You have inspired me and so many others! P.S. Hope you are feeling better!
I purchased the exact same pouch for my Wraith costume. I had to take off the front flap with buckle though. I also currently underestimated how long Wraith was going to take me. Costume like these have so many tiny details that eat up your time.
Your tutorials for cosplay are the best I have ever seen !!! I'm sure that I'm gonna to buy your books ❤ and I love the corgis 😊 (I have a pomeranian and they look similars) . Bye bye and thanks for the tutorials!
I just started making Tyrande Whisperwinds ironfeather bow from WoW and it is really intricate! So far Ive only traced the shape onto foam and am kinda skared to try and cut it out 😅 but now I've started so I've gotta do it. I'll just consider it a challenge! 🙃
So no one uses pins anymore ? That is the best bit about test fitting. Unexpectedly finding that last pin as it buries deep into some sensitive nether region. 😳
The only thing that I've ever created for cosplay was a clay necklace and a beginner pickaxe (Tomb Raider) for a con in 2017. In January this year I got a huge urge to start creating a costume, KDA Ahri. Last time I had a sewing machine in my hands was 15 years ago and been making mistakes 2/3 of the process. Making the bodice was hard, especially in the crotch area since no one wants a cammeltoe 😂 The top is in the making, cutting 52 pieces of fabric making sure they are all equal. I found out that cutting it out on top of each other can make it easiere to make them the same size. Hopefully I'll be done with the cutting this week so I start sewing it together and then crossing fingers it will fit on top of the bodice 😂
So I did Midna from Twilight princess and I thought I gave myself plenty of time to work on everything....I had it done by the morning of the second day of the con. This also happened with Azurel from Undertale. This year I'm planing on doing Midna again....hopefully I learned form my past mistakes lol.
so my cosplay story is red blood cell from cells at work. i could have just bought the cosplay online but no i just had to make it all from scratch. i didnt even buy a pattern for the jacket, i just stared really hard at a jacket i had and drew the patterns free hand. I had zero sewing experience but somehow i managed to make it haha.
The costume looks great as always. Lacing and tightening the corset is easy if done properly. You want to have crosses all the way down. You have it laced like a tennis shoe. To lace a corset you pass both ends through from back to front in the first holes on both sides. Then cross the laces and go into the second hole. Cross them again and come out the third. The process repeats until the end where you finish with a bow. Does that make sense?
I wanted to do a full Tali’zorah cosplay from Mass Effect 3. But I started too late and I bought too thick EVA foam. I finished the Bolero and the helmet base, without the visor, but I suddenly got really sick and wound up in the hospital two weeks before the con, so I couldn’t finish because I had to recover. Tali is my dream cosplay and I want to tackle the project again but I need to wait till I have more time to dedicate to it.
It makes me feel so ridiculous, but even though I'm an exclusive sewing cosplayer (not on purpose, I just get more taken in by fabric based costumes) I bought your book and learned soooo much after just reading like two pages and it makes me wonder where I fall on the sewing scale lol.
I'm not a cosplayer, however, I am incredibly curious at the process of making cosplay/costumes. I love the idea and process of "making".
