I've got the Hyperion 2...still enjoying it. I usually put lock laces in most of my shoes for easy on/off/adjustments but as you said the Brooks laces are great and have not budged on any of my runs; I've not needed to double knot. So I think I'll skip the lace swap on this one!
I have both of these. I find the SL2 soft and bouncy, I’ve enjoyed them at all paces (easy, tempo, intervals) up to ~20km (I wouldn’t take them further than that as the softness and flexibility gives me some foot fatigue). I have only recently got the Hyperion 2 but so far find it to be the perfect hybrid shoe for gym and running. I think it’s more firm and stable than the SL2, and the firmness with the flexibility gives it good versatility for gym stuff (lifting, hyrox etc) while also being great for shorter runs tagged onto a gym session, especially if jumping on the treadmill (I don’t like overly soft shoes on the treadmill). I haven’t done intervals in Hyperions yet but reckon they will be great for that
Good to hear you find them different enough for different activities. Although I could use the Hyperion for gym stuff, they wouldn't be my first choice as I like my gym shoes even firmer, although saying that, I don't like running in firmer gym shoes so perhaps you're right about them being a good balance! ✌🏽
@@its_Matt_B_ ah yep totally agree, my first preference for gym work is usually firmer too, like Metcons. But found Hyperion a great in between option when needed!
I have the SL2 and I like the value it offers except for the cheese wire laces (same laces in Takumi Sen). It also works as a pretty good casual shoe. Brooks has generally been great with the fit of its uppers and possibly Hyperion 2 is winning by a hair in this comparison. Overall it is a toss up. I guess it will be up to long term durability of the shoes in the end.
⚖ You did not ask for an emoji but this one suited , currently training and running in a full Brooks rotation . Adidas run too tight for me in general however though I do like their midsole compounds.
Just got both shoes and yeah I know what you mean when you say that the Hyperion 2 looks and feels more premium. Not dogging the SL2 cause it's a great shoe especially for the price but when I first opened the box and looked at it, to me the upper looked and felt cheap. Think the Hyperion 2 and Max 2 have the best uppers, tongue, and laces of 2024. Both shoes give that old school daily trainer light weight feel, low stack (by today's standards) , and really flexible feeling that I've been missing.
I don't think I mentioned it but I remember thinking the same thing about the upper of the SL2 looking/feeling a little cheap and almost plasticy! Good call on the Brooks Hyperion (and Max) 2 having the best uppers of the year! A lot of shoes would be made better with uppers like those!
Anyone else find the BH2 basically dead silent to run in. Makes the other slappers out there a bit jelly. Hope the rubber outsole has some longevity to it.
I have both. One run in the SL2 which I enjoyed though my feet did get tired towards end of the run probably because the foam is soft. I enjoyed the bounce though and I could increase my cadence compared to when I wear the Novablast 4. I have a very pronounced arch and short wide foot and find that Adidas fits very well. Same as the Agravic 3 trail shoe. They both have a performance fit. The Hyperion 2 is still in its box! Too many purchases recently and will probably send back! The grip on the SL2 surprised me but it seems like the Hyperion 2 has better grip. What do you think Matt?
I'm surprised that with a (self-described) wide foot that Adidas fit you so well. I always think of Adidas as being a bit narrow! Regarding the grip, I don't get to run in the wet very often so I can't honestly say i've noticed a difference. Both seem equally as grippy to me, but perhaps I need to give them a proper test in slippery conditions to find out for sure!

Yep! These two are an excellent pair to go head-to-head but durability aside, the laces are the real differentiator.

It does make me wonder how some brands make shoes that sound like a round of applause when others are silent!
