  • Turn off the Century 52" tripod ceiling fan in gloss black/polished brass. Another that I found in the trash during Cleanup Week 2024. Not entirely sure if these had a proper model name or not, even in advertisements Menards always just used descriptors for this era of TOC fans. I'd seen these before and recall their general existence at Menards and in their adverts, but also knew a couple of showroom brands offered similar and was never sure which ones were what based on the parts makeup. This one came into focus as TOC once I really started thinking on the components, most notably the blades with rubber grommets, similar to a Hunter product. I remember other upper-end TOC fans of the period using those. It's kind of a crude execution, definitely nowhere near the seamlessness of a Craftmade tripod fan, for example, but it's also interesting to see such an endeavor from a home center product line. TOC really took it there with a couple of these wacky modern-classic fusion designs, so very specific of the time period and with a strangely universal appeal. That's the main reason I even bothered to clean this up and keep it. I wouldn't say that I particularly like it from a design cohesion standpoint, but it's such a niche reference of design that I think holds its own in the collectible sense. It really did clean up even better than I could've expected. The blades looked so bad and scratched up that I thought I might have to source something alternative, but they shockingly came out with few blemishes. Most of the brass parts still look new, and overall it runs fine. Seems to have the typical light motor hum that I've found with most period TOCs. It's not super loud or the most annoying, but present. They're overall pretty good fans and I won't detract from that aspect, but the hum is the major pitfall. Performance is pretty good, which is generally what I say about TOC fans. Solid base level products overall, with some interesting choices made through the years that really set them apart.

Look, i'm gonna be honest. It does look pretty cool but on a ceiling height that low, I think a shorter downrod would look better. But you do you

The tripod can't be used with a shorter downrod and that's the key feature of the fan. My studio is for demonstration of the unit in its best form, not practicality.
