    Been there so many times over the years. It’s always a miracle. When it’s hot out sometimes I lay in the cold water late afternoon in the summer and all my troubles melt away. The noise of the river seems to disappear… and all I hear is nothing and the problems of this world go away and I’m at peace.

    Been a while. I had a great day on the Upper Sac that same weekend. Had to do some serious bushwhacking to avoid the crowds and the dude with the rifle. Worth it--found some great spots. You had good luck with the construction crews! Bravo. Great video as always. Great to see the classics working. I've been using an orange collared pheasant tail which is wracking up almost as many fish as the Duracell. Keep em coming.

      The upper sac can definitely attract more people on holidays. I haven't fished the lower half very much this year.
      I'll have to check out that pattern, I'm a big fan of orange accents on flies.

    For educational propose, I like when you fish with the yard. I can see exactly what seam you are fishing. You look several years younger than myself but you have big Cajones wading without a staff like that. Be careful and keep the great videos coming. Hopefully I can make it up there sometime for a guided trip with you

      My wife said the exact thing about the yarn. I'll definitely be using it more. The light has to be PERFECT to see the sighter on camera when tight lining. Part of my wants to find something that's more of a solid material. I've tried all manner of sighters and colored mono and it's very hard to see.
      Hope we get to hang out some time.

    There he is haha. Awesome video Eric. Man, I love that river. Can't believe I didn't fish it all this year. I've never fished that area but looks amazing. How long is the hike down, time and distance?

    • @driftstone
      @driftstone  Місяць тому

      The hikes are short, but steep. All the access points are relative close to the water. So the hike down was like 5 min and hike out 15. You can't really go up and down river a whole lot because it cliffs out, so you hole hop in the truck a lot.

    So im in my mid 40s and been fly fishing since around 10 yrs old but ive still not tried euro style oddly enough. Not for any specific reason really just never made the switch. But my point for mentioning this is i dont see how ur getting down quik enough in some of them faster waters without any extra weight being added. U obviously are or u wouldn't be pulling in the fish that u are but its just shocking to me i suppose. Haha as im writing i see u add weight on the video. Ive never seen anyone use weight while euro nymphing. Do u prefer euro style or old school floating line with an indicator? Just curious really

    • @driftstone
      @driftstone  Місяць тому

      As with any answer it's always going to depend. I'm technically not Euro nymphing because I'm not following the competition fly fishing rules. Things like split shot and indicators are not allowed. So rather than have flies with bigger and bigger beads, I will use split shot if I need it. The cast also has a big impact on how fast things sink. Look up a tuck cast, basically I want the flies to hit the water first and keep everything off the water. I can control how hard the flies hit and that will affect the sink rate.
      I use floating lines from a boat when indicator nymphing and when fishing dry flies, but being able to pick up the leader an fish past fast current without mending is a huge advantage.

    • @billyreeves8315
      @billyreeves8315 Місяць тому

      @@driftstone u wasnt fishing an indicator in the video was u? I guess when i think and say euro style im thinking that ur in direct contact with ur flies and mostly detecting ur bites by touch. Sometimes a sighter but usually its just feeling the hit because of the direct contact to the fly right? Or am i off with that statement? But yes thats kinda why i was confused when i seen u add weight since i thought u was euro fishing but im not sure if im correct about any of it i suppose I might be wrong on what i seen u doing and i might be wrong of my labeling as euro style fishing to. I apologize for where im incorrect but can u correct me on my wrongs please haha? Was u technically fishing euro until the point u put on weights then? Or is that incorrect also?

    • @driftstone
      @driftstone  Місяць тому

      Yup they do. The bootie is basically a thick sock so you can wear your boots without waders.

      Booties are okay mid June- Sep, when water temps have warmed. Use waders earlier or later or your legs freeze.
