Loved this segment. You have such a great sense of humor. Answering questions helps us to know you better without getting into your life. Interviewing people who had lived or worked at the school would provide insight into how the school was structured.
Thank you for the Q and A. With all of your hobbies and tools, you could turn part of the annex into your own private maker-space. I know I've been looking at how much space is there and dreaming about setting up my fantasy sewing/craft room(s) if it was mine.
I've done the same thing -- about 10 years ago my wife wanted coasters and when we looked at the store they were $45 for 5 coasters -- which seemed way to expensive to me. So I sourced tiles from a local store and cork sheets from amazon. After some glueing we had homemade coasters. Took a good 5 hours and $100 in materials. At least I didn't "overpay" for the ones in the store.
I like that extra garden area. Add a bit more maintenance for the moment, sure. But the upside is it gives a buffer between other houses. And the big thing is, once your house is all established and you are living there with most work done, there's nothing like having plenty of space to spread out and setup a nice garden. This would be so much fun for someone like me.
Awesome video thank you for sharing. I completely feel you pain on the buying vs making yourself items. I have 2 CNC machines (wood/metal and laser). Which i use completely for hobby ideas. Everyone stay safe, happy and healthy.
machines are awesome though, I just get sucked into the rabbit hole! Projects i did 10 years ago now i want to redo all of them with every new piece of machine or tool i get!
Hey mate, absolutely love your videos, this is something I would love to do one day so I am learning everything I can from you. My question is, will you ever bring out merch and do you accept help from any of your followers ? I am a carpet layer if that would ever help.
I think one day maybe i'll do some merch with some silly sayings! When we get into the interior reno that might come in handy! But first I have to rip out all this stained carpet!! Lets see how bad it is under first!
Hobbies are hobbies. It's good that you understand the importance of that concept. Too many people try to turn hobbies into side gigs and it wrecks the fun of it.
I’d totally be creating a makers space with that place. As a renaissance creator with multiple hobbies and a severe lack of equipment, it’s a perfect facility to collaborate with a collective on items, materials, and machines that could be owned and used by a community.
That would be cool! We do have a local maker space as well here but It hasn't been doing so well. Really steep prices for membership and a very high barrier for people to get started. Would be cool to do a lower cost space but also machines are expensive to maintain especially if inexperienced members crash them. I'll have to think about it some more! Thanks for the idea!
So sad to hear that the age for the school kids started at two!! Extra living space would be a great use of the annex!! Will your brothet be able to help you with some of your remodeling/ updating projects?? Have a great weekend!!
What a fun way to start my workday. Thank you for making my day better. Really enjoyed your stories and your openness. Just read your comment about your parents. They had to work very hard to get here and make something of themselves and they have instilled those qualities in their sons. Can’t wait to see some of the sayings on your merch. Of course everyone is going to be buying the one that says I’m going to end this video because I have to go poop now. 😂
Well, if the annex garage conversion is a no go for now, at least there is other space for a shop area on the property if you do decide to add one in the future. I was wondering how a lift would work in that annex space, thanks for clarifying why it's not feasible in that building.
I love you humour. If you create a granny flat make it so it can be fully separate so you could rent it out. My parents did this and the extra money really does help.
i enjoyed this, you're a very engaging young man. i'm impressed by your work ethic and your sense of kindness..most ppl would give a buddy the couch..much less their own 'apartment' . i subbed the car channel as well, just because i can't wait to see all your projects.
You taught yourself a skill set and gained knowledge. Never waste of time, my friend. Seeking knowledge and gaining new skills is always important. Just don't put yourself in debt doing it is all, lol.
I have a hobby rule. Most of the time its if i buy a machine or anything for a hobby i put a post it note on it that says how much that machine owes me. If i make projects with it I try to make a few extra I can sell. When that post it note reads 0. I basically can do whatever and not have the pressure or thought of having to break even and just enjoy having the machine!
Thanks for talking about the car! I definitely get having too many projects. I also understand the rust bucket type project cars as i am from michigan.. But its awesome you're planning another channel for the car content! I cant wait to see what you post. Already Subscribed to it!
Thank you for clearing a lot of questions up for us viewers. Yes, your Dad sounds Old school. My Mum was like that with the veggies at dinner time. Once I sat at the dinner table in defiance for 3 hours because I refused to eat my Mum’s boiled cabbage. It smelt and looked disgusting. In the end I said give me a smack because I want to go to bed lol! 😁
Grew up around car shows. My dad was a big car guy. We had everything from Dodge Chargers, Plymouth Satellite, Sunbeam Tiger, AMC Gremlin, Studebaker Gran Turisimo Hawk, Fiat X/19, to an old Chevy Navy Ammunition Carrier pickup. I noticed you never really went into details about your rust buckets. Would enjoy hearing more.
What a fun video Jason. Loving your sense of humour and getting to know a bit more of your thought process on what you have in mind - including plans you have discounted. Keep up the great work and look forward to Monday's video. 😊😊
Interesting video. I’m a hobbyist too. I’ve nicknamed my hobbies ‘The Dirty Dozen’. Although, that dozen is subdivided into many other things! They 3D printing sounds interesting…..maybe I’ll look into that too. It’s fun to see the school coming along.
Once you get into 3d printing its an addiction really. You will start 3d printing things you dont even need haha. Luckily I have learned to stop myself when i think "Hmm i'll just print that"
No, because I just subscribed today! I really like your show! Keep up the hard work! I'll be excited to see the progress and what comes next!🎉🎉🎉 P.S. I imagined solid gold lions at the entrance to the school or your home!
I laughed so hard about the last part. The tools were way more expensive than buying it. 🤣I remember one of my friends asked me to post my hobby room, and I said that I would need to make picture of whole my house, not doable 😂So your house will be one big hobby box too. It's fine, we need to keep our brain trained and whatever we do in our time is no problem. I love rummaging around doing what I love beside working. The time I owned a car for driving to work, a car to transport things, a car for nice weather and a campervan to go on holiday is not that long ago. We do pay tax for the roads here 🙄Thanks for the interview.
So hows your day? 😊 Great Q+A. Its very nice that you take time to answer questions in your extremely busy life. Something im learning about you is you seem to always have to be doing something. I get that. People like me for instance, will start a new project, while im still in the middle of something else. Its weird that one job will lead me to another, yet i never feel overwhelmed. My house, business, crafting, and animals, always give me something that needs doing. Just like you new home and many hobbies.😊 so take care, stay healthy, happy and safe always. Look forward to the next video, see ya.

I love the Q and A. Oh a personal makers space would be great. I long to have a larger than 9’x8’ room to sew in. If you have others come in to use it though, think of the cost of insurance. I hadn’t even thought of the taxes on the property until you mentioned needing to find a corpse to bury so you’ll count as a cemetery. So have you done more on the gutters and roofs. Have you thought about the water situation? If the building was dry, and you had water, would you fix up a few rooms and move into the house? Final question: being extremely broad in your answer, can you say what your actual career is?
Still working on gutters and roof, thinking about water and how to test and figure stuff out for sure but still in planning. Career wise hard to say I can say what I have been taught by education but have hopped around quite alot
Still working in the background, just figured people would be sick of watching gutter reno so trying to wrap that much as much as i can before moving to the roof!
Would renting out some of the space be possible? I don't know what for but just a thought. ( Not for me, lol .events or office space is what I was thinking)
@@watchere Allowing it to be used as a wedding venue could really bring in a lot of money. The home and the grounds are beautiful. I think a lot of people would be interested.
Check your local codes! If it has public access and occupies a certain amount of space on the property I think my county is 30% of total land. You can apply to be tax exempt!!!! If I recall correctly that's how Donald Trump got one of his golf courses tax exempt or is trying to atleast!
Well, at least it wasn't a horror story school. About the back lot. Could you and the Dean reunite the two halves into a single lot that's it's own lot? Maybe make it a community garden plot or something that you can rent out plots or the whole thing for private parties? So the boundary wall marking the subdivision line could be knocked down and reused for a folly wall or standing barbecue or seating area..... Feels like such a pity to not use it for something.
That was a fun Q & A. You didn't answer my question or are you avoiding it on purpose? What state are you in or are you even in the states? What is your occupation? TY
For security purposes just dont want random people showing up at my door! I already had a few close calls of people doxing me, posting where I live and alot of personal details! I am in the states though!
@@watchere - Respect that & appreciate the reply. I subscribe to several channels and all have shared what state they're in, only a couple have mentioned their town. Viewers, like myself are just curious. That's an expensive property and funds to fix the issues and renovations are expensive, just wondering how it's afforded. I'm in Florida, gulf coast area, north of Tampa. Home owners insurance is very expensive here and has gotten worse over the past few years. I enjoy your videos and look forward to the renovations and solving the issues as they arise. Thank you.
The place is far too big for a single family dwelling. The main house alone would accommodate your family and still have room for guests. Because the annex is well separated, there's space for two good-sized apartments that you could rent out to help pay your mortgage and the property taxes (which will be substantial).
becoming a second Simon Whistler??? okay i am not so into cars, for me they are all rostbuckets, but i guess when you do a car channel, i would try to watch... rectangular gutters going to round pvc pipes not from 1900, my ocd just dancing rumba in my brain...cheaper isn't always better, but i can see you running a 3d printing, cnc shop in the annex, to get some extra cash, or to build spare parts for the school...
It's good to hear that the kids had good memories of this place. It's so crazy to think that a person would have a child just to end up sending them away as a toddler. Its odd to hear them referred to as students when in actuality they were still babies most likely in diapers. It was probably a good thing that the children lived here instead of with there parents who in most actuality were probably not the greatest of people. Okay enough with the sad comments I'm super excited to watch your progress. Not sure if you answered this yet as I just found your channel 30 min ago. Would you be able to turn say half of the school into apartments? Not sure where you're located but I know in the state of Washington we get free solar panels for our houses. Your place would be perfect to have solar panels with the flat roof of your house. Because your channel is growing and you have great view count I would be reaching out to companies to see about a sponsorship or free product for promotion. If you got the right hustle going you could probably get this whole place done for free or substantially reduced because of your channel. Okay I'll stop rambling now lol

becoming a second Simon Whistler??? okay i am not so into cars, for me they are all rostbuckets, but i guess when you do a car channel, i would try to watch... rectangular gutters going to round pvc pipes not from 1900, my ocd just dancing rumba in my brain...cheaper isn't always better, but i can see you running a 3d printing, cnc shop in the annex, to get some extra cash, or to build spare parts for the school...
Cnc shop would be a dream!
Why would anyone put a 2 year old child in a boarding school, very sad
Do you mean pave to window boxes(?)
Will pave between them too!
