  • Thematic Workweek - Effective Time Management Technique Jack Dorsey Uses To Run Two Companies
    Got a lot on your plate throughout the week ? In this video I introduce you to a single most effective time management technique, that allows Jack Dorsey to successfully manage both Twitter and Square, while staying productive for more than 16 hours a day!
    But first, let me ask you this: do you ever feel overwhelmed, and spread thin by all kinds of different things ? If you do, then you’re not alone, as 125 million of working Americans face the same challenge every day. Dealing with multiple tasks, many of them unrelated, makes it extremely challenging to keep up, and to focus on one thing at the time.
    Jack Dorsey - the co-founder of Twitter and founder and CEO of Square - devised an innovative approach to dealing with overwhelming agenda - something he calls “Thematic workweeks”. Thematic workweek is a batching technique that entails focusing exclusively on one group of related activities each day.
    Let's apply thematic workweek. If you're running your own business, your schedule can look something like this:
    Mondays - company meetings;
    Tuesdays - product development;
    Wednesdays - sales analysis and revenue projections;
    Thursdays - negotiations with suppliers, store visits and inspections;
    Fridays - performance reviews, hiring and firing employees.
    But how exactly can "Thematic Workweek" help you become more productive ? This tool is great for a variety of reasons:
    1) It puts you in control. Instead of constantly reacting to the flow of incoming emails or requests from your co-workers, sort all the tasks by themes, and revisit on the corresponding day. Make sure you pay attention to deadlines, otherwise you’ll get into trouble.
    2) It provides clarity - to you and your team - on how soon the assignment will be carried out. You can take an extra step, and rank assignments by importance within each group, so that you tackle most important things first.
    3) It removes the decision-making component out of your daily routine. Research shows that quality of our decisions suffer each time we have to make one. By pre-planning weekly schedule in advance, we retain more mental capacity for important tasks that need it.
    4) Lastly, Thematic Workweeks make each day interesting. Doing the same job daily can be boring. Having something new every day keeps you from burning out, and improves job satisfaction in the long run.
    Thanks for watching!
