    Thank you for the info. Like you I got a big Cabela’s tent the Alaknak 12 X 20 tent and have been looking for something for a camp kitchen. I have gone a few years without a camp kitchen so when I seen your vid. I made my mind up. Thank you again for the info.

    I have no idea why this popped up in my suggested, but this is REALLY cool!! Brings back memories- I was in the Air Force & it reminds me of our training tents. Great set up!!

    I think the big tent is really cool. Once you've set one up a time or two, it's easy. I like the sleeping pods and roomy center area. We car camp all summer and this tent would be awesome.

    The individual sleeping pods remind me of a one man Baker tent. I like the concept.

    That is a really cool set up I think if i was setting up a area i would use what you guys did as my inspiration with having a cooking tent and the pod system is something i never knew about ....thanks for sharing

      Thanks Barry, we've been using this camp every fall, and then some, now for over 10 years. Love camping and learned early on that it's miserable without that camp kitchen area. In warm weather the screens keep the bugs out and in cold weather the walls keep the snow and wind out. Not to mention it keeps all the food and cooking odor's away from where we sleep. Over the years we have had bears and other critters in camp, but they stay clear of where we sleep for this reason. (little tech tip for you...hang your pots, pans and utensils from the canopy frame inside the camp kitchen walls close enough to clank together...it'll wake you right up when a critter tries getting inside) Thanks again for watching and for checking in, glad you felt inspired ;) Noel

    I use a ecofan, that sits on the hot surface of the stove along with 2 battery powered ceiling fans that I put up at the top of each of the center poles to circulate the air. We use cots and sleep with our heads to the opening of the pod and seriously the only times we've gotten cold is when we had issues with the pellet stove early on before we found the right pellets. It's a great tent, heck..my wife will even winter camp with me now!! Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it!! Noel

      Thanks for watching and for your comments, I appreciate it! Ya know the funny thing about UA-cam is you get all kinds and I'm sure some will take an opportunity to de-legitimize your comment. But you are right, I do know "how to camp" and I love it; weather it's out with a group using this camp or solo backpack camping way back in the mountains, it just doesn't get much better!! Thanks again for watching! Noel

      no worries, i enjoyed the vid. we go camping as group in outback australia and set up little villages of tents its great fun. I'm going to take a kitchen tent like yours now, its a great idea, we probably don't need the wood burner though :)

    • @FirstLightOutdoors
      @FirstLightOutdoors  7 років тому +1

      Where you go is on my bucket list my friend...someday we'll make it there!!! One little trick that I've learned with our camp kitchen. First off its a 10x10ft canopy with walls, bought it cheap at Walmart. We hang all of our pots, pans and utensils from the roof frame of the canopy. That way if a bear, racoon or other critter tries to raid our kitchen the pots and pans clank together and wake us up. It's worked every time!!! You take care;)

    I like simple and east setups myself, but if I were to go camping with a group of friends a tent like that would be amazing! It's sad they don't carry it anymore, loved the music and the tour was pretty good.

    • @FirstLightOutdoors
      @FirstLightOutdoors  7 років тому

      Oh trust me, I like simple too! I think some of the best trips I've had are with just 2 or 3 of us way back in the backcountry where everyting we brought came in on our backs. But for a group of guys, especially late season, this is the way to go!! Thank you for watching its greatly appreciated! Noel

    • @FirstLightOutdoors
      @FirstLightOutdoors  8 років тому

      I tell ya we love it!! Before that stove one of us was up every couple hours throwing wood into the stove stoking the fire, no more. That baby runs about 9 hours on a hopper of pellets and keeps a nice even temp. Its a great stove!! Thanks for watching and for checking in, its greatly appreciated! Noel

      I hear ya, but its no less safe than any other heat source in a tent! I think you can see in the video the fire retardant mats both under and between the tent and stove. Plus I have a smoke detector that I place at the top of one of the center poles. Thanks for watching!! Noel

    Hello Kris, If I set up alone (yes it does happen) it takes me close to 4 hours to get the entire camp set up. With 2 or 3 of us we can have it up and ready in under 2. The entire camp is stored in a enclosed trailer and kept very organized, so we have it down to a science! Our trips range from a long weekend to a couple weeks. I'll be living in this camp for 10 days starting next week while we hunt elk in Colorado! We'll be filming more video's on this trip. Thanks for checking in! Noel

    The modular design gives this versatility, but I wander if a single larger tent with a central heating stove wouldn't be more comfortable. and more efficient.. I imagine in very cold conditions, those sleeping pods would lose a lot of heat.

    Great video and great set up.. I just invested A few bucks in A set up very similar to Urs. I always likes camping and hunting and it's cool to have a great set up, Some people just love to hate nowadays. Im not sure if it's cause people get brave online cause there in their mom's basement and not face to face. Or they are jaded cause they dont have anything cool. Anyways, again great setup and GOD BLESS BRO. postscript, lets see how many TROLLS come after me because i'm happy & content and not bitter.

    • @FirstLightOutdoors
      @FirstLightOutdoors  8 років тому +1

      +TheMICRKR ... This spot is kinda close to a busy road, but worse than that is that it's also right near the railroad tracks. That first train about bounces you off your cot!! But after that first night, were so darn tired from a full day of hunting (and not sleeping the night before) they don't seem to bother us too much?! It seems like we never know for sure where we'll be setting up our camp on this hunt until we arrive on scene. Depending largely on wind, weather and how much time we have to set up. Typically we boat everything out onto an island and set up there but the year this video was done was one of those years we opted to camp where we park the trucks. Thanks for watching though... Noel

    Hello Jeffrey, there is a temp change from the head of the pod to the foot, but it's not as bad as one would think. We've used this tent in some very frigid winter weather up here in MN and WI, we all stayed very warm... with the pellet stove going of course. It's also crutial to have some fans going to keep the air circulating. Check out the EcoFan...awesome little unit that runs off the hot surface of the stove. Thanks for checking in!!!! Noel

    Hello Nickadeamus11, It's an Ozark Trail 10x10 and you can actually get it, the screens and walls at Walmart... We really like the straight walls and the ability to open it up in the summer. Its a great way to go for a camp kitchen, don't have to worry about getting the floors dirty (cause there is none) and you total control over the ventilation. Good luck and keep us posted!! God Bless, Noel

    Can I make a suggestion? A lumber wall-enclosure around your campsite for better sense of security from animals and maybe even unwanted people who may for example, prank your campsite, to name one of a variety of issues .. I actually got pranked one night and it was deep in the woods, and they had flashlights, paintballs, and turned everything over topsy-turvy while I was asleep and left laughing and hootin' and hollerin. it was pretty scary and I never went back after that

    Hello Allen, well it depends...we've set up this tent for as little as 2 nights and as long as a couple weeks. Honestly...I think I could reside in it full time and be a happy camper!!! Thanks for checking in... Noel

    Hello Marc, The model we use is the Yukon Cylinder stove (cylinderstoves. com) with the pellet burner attachment. I just returned from elk hunting where our camp was at 10,500 feet. The pellet burner doesn't work at that elevation, but the nice thing about this stove is you can detach the pellet burner and burn wood . We love it, at lower elevations, like MI, the pellet burner works flawlessly, as long as you burn premium softwood pellets. Great stove! Thanks for checking in... Noel

    Great video. Thanks for taking the time. I was wondering. What heater were you using in the drying tent? Went camping a couple of weekends ago in Vermont and nighttime temps dropped into the 30's. I would have been a happier camper with a little heat in the morning. 😊

      Normally we set up for this duck hunt out on a big remote island on the Mississippi River, this particular year we had high winds and were forced to set up in a friends closed campground which he turned on the electricity for us. To answer your question we used an electric heater that particular year, normally we use a propane heater in the drying and cook tents and a wood stove in the sleeping tent.Thanks for watching and for asking, it's much appreciated!! Noel
