Many thanks for doing this video! You've helped demystify a lot of the topic of Subbuteo bases.

Watching in 2024 🎉 I love HW teams so much character and can swerve the players around other players and add weight to the base . But also love how the modern flat base makes the players slide so fast without falling over. Conclusion I just love the game.

Right with you John. I am a child of the 70s, love my HW teams, but the new wquipment is amazing.

@@subbuteoman I'm thinking about buying the Lionesses Box set . Can't see many people buying it. So maybe it's going to be very rare one day. What do you think. ? Also has there ever been a womans team produced before ?

Nice work Paul - I think the only era you missed out (and I know there wasn't time to cover everything) is the FISTF Sports and Toccer figures introduced in the 90s by Willi Hofmann. Also (cos it'll annoy Trevor S) the monoblock bases were developed by Subbuteo pre-Hasbro despite the fact that most people call them Hasbro - and in fact the idea for the bases came from Willi's figures. But small points I very much enjoyed the video - a very good summary. And particularly chuffed, as, traditionally, a flat figure player and Chelsea supporter, that you start with a Ref 42 card figure - COYB (newly crowned UEFA Super Cup winners). :)

Great video sir! Gotta admit I’m a sucker for the huge lightweight collection, even though most people say they are not the best to play with. I want to collect all teams! 😂😂

Thanks Marios for the comment. I love to collect also, but i am a HW guy!

Had the flat celluloid figures in 1963. Drew the pitch using my mother's sewing chalk on an old army blanket - just like the instructions said. Subbuteo based in Langton Green on edge of Tunbridge Wells where I was a boy. They had a permanent display in a shop window in the town for many years.
Later, in 1960s, got the 3D plastic version. Very brittle and tended to break ankles. Weight in base helped swerving. Had that Brazil team and the Wolves team

Very informative video. That Brazil figure is the iconic Subbuteo player for me (ha, ha, I honestly typed that before you said the same thing on the video).
I'd love to see how the figures are actually machine printed, I can't imagine what that process looks like....

@@subbuteoman Indeed I did. I have just bought an old heavy weight set from ebay, the Walker figures, early 1970's I believe, to relive my youth, with lots of swerving and falling over before reaching the ball, but would be interested in getting a couple of 'modern' teams with straight gliding properties, what bases would you recommend for a non pro! Love your videos BTW!

One of the good things about the online Subbuteo community today compared to 20 years ago seems to be how much more civil the debate is. I'm not keen on the modern 'pro' style bases either but others are and we can all live happily together.

Very interesting video. Just wondering how compatible Hasbro figures would be with other bases. I've got a set of figures but no bases and I'm wondering if I could use them with non-Hasbro bases.

@@subbuteoman Thanks for the swift reply Paul. Just renewing a recreational interest in the game having played in the 70s. Actually had the World Cup 1970 edition with Brazil, Italy and England teams. Just picked up a Euro 96 box set second-hand but blue bases missing🥲. Very impressed by how well you and others in your videos play. Great vids and very instructive.

Hi Adam, Tchaa bases are great, but I could not mention all base types, they would be in the category of modern bases. No disrespect to Tchaa, Biemm, Real, Calponi......and on and on....
