- Beechcraft King Air 350 C-GRXX of Carson Air is seen landing and creating a nice splash upon arrival at CZNL in Nelson, British Columbia after the short flight over from the Kelowna International Airport YLW. These impressive, powerful turboprop aircraft are always fun visitors to see in Nelson!

I'm sure you're a pro with the King Air! Do you get to operate to some nice short strips where you regularly fly? These medevac pilots that fly around B.C. get to visit a nice mix of interesting and challenging little airports.

speaking of which, there are a couple of (in)famous airfields that King Air 350/360 operators like our company fly to and from when requested 😵😵
one of which is an island province known worldwide as a popular surfing destination, with the runway and weather conditions offer a pretty rough challenge at times 😲😲
another is right smack in the middle of one of the most picturesque and ecologically diverse beach destinations worldwide, and its runway, while adequately long, is a one way in / one way out type of deal, with one of the ends right at the slope of a small mountain range, and a concrete wall to finish it off, eliminating any go around capability when on short final 😮💨😮💨
and (at least for me), the most nail-biting of all, is the private airstrip on one of the most luxurious and ultra- expensive island resorts anywhere, with the likes of Bill Gates, and the Brangelina couple (when they were still together) reportedly spend a vacation there…
depsite it having an adequate length and width for the King air, runway on that island is notorious for its layout - compact coral on much of the runway itself, and a concrete paved surface so narrow that it’s just slightly wider than the wheel base width of the King Air… meaning, any landing slightly off center will result of your wheels rolling into loose compact coral, and your prop blades and (knock on wood) engine eating dirt and stone…
and if that’s not enough, perhaps its most challenging condition is its legendary crosswinds, which can heave and toss you around on finals, and suddenly stop just before the wheels make contact… 😱😱
the landing is so challenging, that it will make Nelson look like a cakewalk 😬😬 and can take a pretty significant toll to even some of the veteran King Air pilots in our community (my dad being one of the most senior currently)
and learning to land in that island is a professional goal of mine for some time now 🫣🫣
Those sound like some very challenging and really interesting locations your company flies to, and they sound like they could be some amazing and scenic location for some spotting. 😃🛩

Used to fly in a king air, going to and from the north. The ride can be exhilarating, this looked like one swell of a landing. Beautiful 🎉

Beautiful looking King Air. Based on the way that thing bounced as it went down the runway shows there might need to be a bit of a runway upgrade there hahaha.

When was this filmed as I haven’t seen them in town for a long time
This one was from October 2023. I'm so surprised we haven't had any visit this winter, usually we get quite a few around this time of year.
They finally passed through Nelson again yesterday, that's the first time I have seen them here is a long time though.
