Pretty slick video, nice shots & editing. I left Nz back in 2007 and haven't come back (though I may this year). I grew up in Upper Hutt & Petone and in my early 20s moved back for a few years to help look after my slowly dying dad. I used this system all the time to get about the region to jobs, varsity & visit friends long after I got a car. I knew it all pretty well. It gave me a lifetime habit of often using public transport even when I have an automobile. It's a little bit mad to see the bits that have changed & been updated, and yet how much hasn't changed. Those new(ish) Matangi units look 2 generations ahead of those old GANZ trains from the late 70s (with their 60s technology) and those even older old English-electrics, their motion looks so smooth. And it's interesting to see that that crappy old timber overhead catenary from the 50s has finally been pulled down and replaced with steel catenary. And that they've obviously spend a lot of money on the roads around Petone (which I don't like). Upper Hutt Station is unrecognisable. Yet it's also cool to see some of the stuff form the 50s & before has been renovated and is looking shiny, and how some of the crossing signals have not changed. Wellington station still keeps that cool 1930's character even with the updates. People might bitch and moan, but Wellington has a really good system for its population base & economic base. It's not perfect but it's definitely not bad.
I greatly enjoyed this video! Everything about it, your camera shots of the train passing the scene, the graphics and captions illustrating the lines, the 80s themed music, and the short and sharp editing of the shots with everything encompassing the Wellington Suburban Rail network. One of the best videos in this genre and I thank you for it! Cheers from Adelaide, Australia
when you list the station names you should show were they are on the route. But besides that your presentation is amazing and i saved your channel. With a presentation and filming of this quality hopefully you make your way to many more networks i would like to see. I would suggest putting dates for construction of a line and a few other small quick facts would be cool also since there is often space on route sections of your video. You probably could do transpirent station view as you list the stations.
Not forgotten just not part of this video as it only includes wellington regional metlink trains so doesn’t include great journeys capital connection or northern explorer. When I get around to doing a proper wellington rail video it will include those as well :)

I second that from here in the UK... a very interesting and professional job. Thank you!
My second favourite past time is waiting for the Wairarapa train to go by while waiting for my express.
Missed out the whole tunnels under the hills on trip to Masterton!! WT!!
I like that shot that you got of DFB 7010 passing Ava with train 1606 at 11:05

Can you do one on Auckland if you’re keen?
Hopefully soon I will get a new Auckland Rail video done :)
Apparently you forgot the Capital Connection.

Capital connection is interregional and run by Kiwirail, not within the Wellington region and run by Metlink.
