- You are broken down on the side of the road with a flat tyre. You open the boot area to remove the spare, ready to fit it to the vehicle, only to find that it is flat! Has the technician forgotten to check the spare tyre pressure during servicing? NO! You are expected to inflate your spare tyre! Let me show you how.

This video saved me on the side of the road in the middle of no where. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Nothing beats a full size spare, a repair kit and a 12v compressor.
Especially when you have screaming kids in the car, late for an appointment and it's raining! 😁
Ha, I'm ticking all 3 of those! Guess how much it rains in Ireland too!? Great vids, especially useful for me are the triton vids, drive one myself and like doing a bit of my own work. Thanks!
@@googies12a Glad you enjoyed the video Ryan.
Make sure you subscribe - I have quite a backlog of Triton videos on the way!😉
Also the cars software has to be put into jacking mode .
@@ltkaffey Absolutely, with those with air suspension.
Thanks for your comment.

Thank you so much! This is super helpful. I haven’t had a flat yet but now I know what to do in case I get one in this new car.
Glad it was helpful! 😁👍
Great video, just thought I’d add in my recent experience.
I’ve owned my used Audi A4 Allroad for two weeks and because of the terribly maintained roads here in the UK I suffered a blowout caused by a huge pothole.
The last garage to fit new tyres had obviously used a torque air gun on the wheel nuts so I wasn’t able to undo them with the useless small wrench Audi supply in the tool kit.
After getting the spare fitted by a roadside recovery service, the next BIGGEST problem was transporting the wheel which had been removed, as it is too big to fit in the spare wheel well.
If you’ve got a boot full of luggage there’s no way to get the original wheel back home.
Unless you’ve got an empty boot you’d have to risk leaving the wheel at the side of the road and hoping it doesn’t get stolen before you’re able to pick it up.
My blowout was a side wall tear so a puncture repair kit, such as Tyre Slime would not have worked.
Car manufacturers have gone backwards when accounting for these emergency situations. Nowadays unless you have access to a roadside recovery service you’re in a world of trouble.
Yes, that's what the manufacturer relies on - roadside assist. But not everyone can access or afford that.
Bring back the normal spare wheel that anyone could replace!
Thank you for this video. So helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Well done mate, will be useful to plenty of people.
Cheers Gerard.
Thanks a lot, I have just bought a Q5 and didn't know about what you showed to us... thanks once again for this beneficial information.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
I have other videos on the Q5 to be released in the near future.

That's such a trip that that's the subwoofer. I had no idea. I have always wondered where exactly it is. Thanks for the video it was very helpful.
That's one of Audi's space saving ideas - good or bad 😉
Glad the video was helpful!
Great job explaining.
Thanks! 😁
Mate!! What a superstar. Thanks for this.
Thank you kindly, I hope it helped
Great job Thanks 👌
You are welcome 👍
Thanks Max!!! Watching you while waiting for roadside assistance 😂
Well, you have all you need to get you on your way. I hope it's not too stressful for you.
Cheers

Thank you 🙏🏼
You are welcome! 😉
Awesome thank you
Glad the video helped
Could be worse - I bought a used BMW 321i and one day I went looking for the spare tire and jack. They don't come with either. They come with a "run flat" tire, (that I'm sure no one replaces) figuring you can limp home or to a tire shop. But if you replace them with the normal tires (or like me buy the car with "normal tires) then chances are pretty good that upon your first flat you will discover no spare or tools to remove it, followed by a nice hefty tow bill. Luckily I found out in advance and bought a jack and lug wrench, so at least I could remove the tire/wheel and go get it fixed.
You are right. I've had a few comments on different European cars with dumb spare wheel solutions! The manufacturer is not the person stuck on the side of the road in the pouring rain with a flat tyre! Strange ideas.....😁🤔
Good forward thinking on your part 👍
Thanks mate
Happy to help 😉
Thanks. You solved my mystery of where the jack is located and how to inflate the tire( oops, I mean tyre (my yankeeness is showing))
Yeah, one crazy set up William. A lot of manufacturers don't use a spare now, just a aerosol to fix the puncture. What happens if the tyre or rim is physically damaged? I think they would have saved just as much space and money by just using a standard 'space-saver'. They wouldn't have needed an air compressor either. 🤔
Thanks I didn’t know
Interesting isn't it?
Thanks. I was inspecting my 2004 Q5 spare and was aghast to see the tire was not inflated! I thought that was the silliest thing. Didn’t realize there was a compressor, I’ll need to go and look for it. BTW, I didn’t see any jack or lug wrench for actually changing the tire out. Is that hidden someplace clever too?? 😂
Yes, a really dumb idea. The jack etc are kept in the compartment just in front of the spare wheel. You need to lift the cover to access it.
The compressor is on the same side (left) in the Canadian models too.
Thanks KR, I did not know that. 👍😁
Compressor is on the left of LHD vehicles also.
Thanks for that bit of info Bill - great to know! 😊
Hi MM. I suppose this is better than having no spare at all, like some others.
True, but you think with the price of the 'Luxury' car, with customer comfort in mind, it would actually come with an inflatable mechanic in the boot to fit it!
So it might be a silly question but if you’re stuck in a remote area with a slow leak, will this little compressor suffice to top off a regular tire until you can get to a shop?
Yes, it is just a normal air compressor, so if needed, you can just keep topping it up if necessary.
This is an optional extra in the UK. If you don't buy it then all you get is a can of puncture gel to block the hole. Would def rather have the spare!
Yes, you are right. The puncture repair in a can is becoming more and more common on later model vehicles.
@MiracleMAX yep for so many reasons : cheaper to make, less weight (helps mpg, emissions, performance, handling, etc). The expectation is people just call the tow truck now. I don't like being that dependent so spent the extra £200 for the spare.
@@scottyuk Good idea. Anything is better than being stuck on the side of the road
Hello!!
I have a 2014 Audi Q5, I don’t like nor feel comfortable with the inflatable tire provided. . Can you Please tell me with all the different cars on the road, is there not a real spare donut that is compatible for an Audi Q5.
Anyone???
Hey Ena,
I understand your frustration and you are not alone. I haven't found a definite answer, but there may be some useful suggestions on this site.

As suggested, a chat with the guys at your local tyre repair workshop might provide some results.

Is it possible to just replace the Audi spare tire itself with an actual normal spare tire? On the spare rim?
Honestly, i'm not sure, but I don't think so otherwise the manufacturer would have done that. They are space savers to cut back on space. There may be forums out there that others may have looked at that issue.
That was super helpful. Today I have experienced exactly what you said: a lot of luggage and then a flat tire…
I'm glad the video helped 😊
How to take out the center caps without the tool
Hey Makik,
I'm not sure if I understanding what you are asking correctly, but SJ shows you how to remove the center caps on the Q5 in this video.
ua-cam.com/video/0yJJDcmaRzs/v-deo.html
I hope that helps
what is the size?
Not exactly sure, but from my research it is a 195/75/18 106P
I own a Q5 and love it
But
All that technology to replace a full size spare tire that could be mounted on a matching factory rim you could simply put into your tire rotation, that you could go for thousands of miles at highway speeds
And not an inflatable doll tire to rot in the back
Also praying to God that the air pump didn't seize over time
Where does the full size wheel go when you take it off? on top or underneath all the cargo you would have to take out to put along the side of the road ?
Now, you are limping at 10 mph below the speed limit to a garage, like a sitting duck
If there is one within 50 miles, if your lucky
I use a tow truck for a spare tire, to make the journey to the garage
It would be quicker waiting for a tow truck, than going through all this nonsense
I also dumped the 20" factory run flats as they can not be repaired when you do get to a garage
What are the odds of a tire shop or truck stop having a matching 20" run flat for your vehicle
BMW guys are screwed, unless they swap out the run flats and use a tow truck for a spare tire like I did to make the 50 mile journey
My girlfriend has a Mazda CX-5 and it is designed to hold a full size wheel , so you will have a place to put you full size wheel when you have a flat
And, because a full-size wheel will fit in there , with the cargo floor flat
She uses the full-size summer wheel for a winter spare, and the reverse of that
The full-size winter wheel for a summer spare
I hear ya' Robert! Engineers come up with some crazy stuff & we are left explaining it to the customers. Sounds like you are all over the spare wheel situation. 😉
@@MiracleMAX @Robert Baker This is why every Q5 comes with roof racks (stored in the boot/trunk when you buy the car). If you’ve got back seat passengers and a boot full of luggage, the only place for the flat tyre to go is up on the roof. It won’t fit where the spare wheel came from. My first thought when I bought the car is why are they giving me a free set of roof racks? I figured it out eventually. Don’t agree with it but it’s still better than run flats in my opinion.
@@starshiptrooper7520 Maybe they could have just duct-taped it to the roof! 😁😁🤣🤣
This has to be one of the absolute worst, overengineered, stupid setups in history of automobiles. Whatever genius came up with this should be forced to do roadside assistance on night duty in remote locations to actually have to use the setup they created.
Couldn't agree with you more. Throw in a mum with little kids and it's raining.......
Genius, just genius.
I hate my audi q5 so much hustle fuck this car I'm selling it
I hope you find a car that you are more happy with
