I really enjoy your videos they have helped me get through some tough days of pain and depression! After a car accident failed surgery I was confined to a wheel chair for a year. After several more surgeries and lots of therapy I’m ready to get my life back some what. I’m unfortunately I’m left with a disability but your channel has inspired me to start a small engine repair shop just part time. Thank you for all you do to make these videos I have picked up so many great tips still learning and a newbie but determined. Have a wonderful night.
Excellent step-by-step video Don. I truly appreciate your style and presentation. Your vidoes make the viewer feel like they are right there with you, working on the task at hand. Again, keep up the outstanding work. You are an excellent teacher and mentor to so many. -JD
Don, I have learned the hard way with gas tanks and fuel lines to pressure check the fuel lines, tank and cas cap with my Mighty Vac. The whole system needs to hold 7# of pressure and not hold an equal amount of vacuum. On tanks with grommets, I put a little 1184 on the grommet before I push it back in. On carbs, I just clean and replace the diaphragms as a matter of routine after throwing them in my ultra sonic cleaner.
Once again Outstanding demonstration. Preppin to look at a buddys leaf blower on wed. Says it's not running well. Will have this vid on standby. As always. You are DA MAN!
I always pressure test a rebuilt carb to 5# after rebuilding them. This makes sure I have done things right after rebuilding them and also catches any leaking gaskets. I have the Walbro W and Zama Z, too. I set the lever just dragging lightly on the gage. There are some carbs that threw me in the beginning, like the Walbro WJ carbs that are adjusted on the slot and not on the top of the carb.
Thanks again Donny, I was going to order a new coil until you said to turn on the switch, I did and guess what "Spark"!!!! you saved me $70 thanks again
'make sure you keep your finger on the lever or you may lose the spring' That sounded like the voice of experience. Nothing more fun than crawling around the shop floor looking for a ploinked spring, eh.
+Paul Dowding I would have said: "Make sure you keep your finger on the lever because the spring will fly out in a direction that defies all laws of physics and roll into a place where it can not be reached without moving some major piece of furniture".
Thanks Don, you just reminded me to check under the diaphram gasket. Even though it looked clean, I forgot that it could be trashed underneath it. It's going to be the reason why my blower doesn't start!
Re testing spark, I use the" Checkspark" tester, works great, available on Amazon and TEW, one of my parts suppliers. There are a couple of good videos on this on UA-cam, just type in Checkspark. Costs around $35.00 but worth every penny. Thanks for the great video.
And you help me again I would never ever guess that the diafragma if is not even to the carb will not run I guess that why was running before storage 2 years and now clean 2 times and still not running Change the diafragma and voila ! Than you Donny I'm a subscriber for years
I agree with all the work you did with this and believe it all needed to be done. I bet the main reason it was running bad was the fuel line that broke. I bet it was cracked and sucking in some air though that crack in the fuel line. She sure runs like a champ now though.
Thanks Dony, the intake valve has the white stem seal or cleaner and exhaust has none on HM100 long block and the valve guide sticks down through the block into the valve spring chamber on one valve hole and not the other.
the older outdoor power equipment has lots more power and made better than some of today.s ones and Echo is one of them from my view and i have a 1988 or 1989 Echo SRM-220BE by comparison to that model by the Kioritz corporation and its lovely unit and perfect for today,s brush cutting jobs and mowing jobs love the video by the way Dony mate too so hopefully someone might be able to answer my comparision on that brand of year of manufacturing and its as old as me 26 that is
With an inexpensive spark plug testing tool a person can also test to see if the spark is weak. Sometimes the spark is there, but it is not strong enough to do the job in the field. Other advantages to the plug testing tool is that it is a hands free setup, can be rigged to be seen from the other side of the equipment, and can be seen with lights on or outside. There are no moving parts so they last forever.
Another great video Dony. Didn't miss anything. Does someone help you with your videos? Do you just place the camera and then edit later? That must take a lot of time. I would also like to know what type of camera do you use as it is very detailed when you do close ups. I would like to help you out with a donation, can you post where to send it again please. You are the best Dony, and we have all benefitted from your videos and saved a lot of money and frustration.
Hi Dony, excellent set of videos. I've seen you service a Walbro carb before and was wondering if it is necessary to remove the hi and lo screws and blow through with carb cleaner? Thanks again.
Looked up that blower ... parts manual says 1992 ... 23 years old! Are Echo's great or what! Unfortunately, it is only about 30cc with only 328 CFM. Still I'd love to have one as a collector's item that gets used occasionally.
nice video on a walbro and other small diaphragm carb rebuild! Echo often sells kits that include both parts of the fuel line including the grommet/connector and fuel filter. Depending on the model, some come with new air filters, spark plugs, and or fuel cap gaskets. Can be easy and quick if they're available for your machine in a store near you. I also was surprised you left the mixture needles in while cleaning, is that common to do?
i have a leaf blower that does not blow hard enough and it shuts down if i try to speed it up, it only can be idling poorly what do you think it might be? the carburetor looks clean i think it be the fuel filter
+donyboy73 I tried to replace the fuel line in the tank and had to take it to the shop. I was afraid to break something. There is absolutely nothing on the internet for the BR 500,550, or 600 backpack blowers. Thanks again!
What determines whether you rebuild vs replace a carburetor? I have an older Ryobi 775r that was a really good machine that won't run and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth putting money into it. Thanks.
Why not take out the low and high needles when cleaning it count the turns and mark them down and blow the carb out and be for I do anything I clean the out side
Hey . 👋 my Stihl BR420 Magnum bogs down and then dies. Like a slow death . I've cleaned the carb, the spark arrestor and the fuel filter is clean. What is your theory as what is wrong?
Often I have to remove the air cleaner housing to expose and adjust a carburetor as it's part of the main housing or just in the way. Do you adjust for good running and throttle response without the filter in place knowing that it will be running richer when the filter is added or do you compensate for this somehow?
I need your help for my STIHL BR380 backpack blower. After running full throttle for 20 - 30 minutes or so it starts to lose RPMs. I bring the throttle back and it idles perfectly. Rev it back up and within a second or two it loses RPMs again. Once it loses RPMs I tried removing the fuel filler cap but that didn't help. (I thought maybe the tank breather cap was clogged). The blower doesn't have that many hours on it. I use ONLY nonethanol gasoline and full synthetic 2 cycle oil at 50:1 ratio (Bel-Ray). I have replaced the spark plug, fuel filter and air filter. I have removed the spark arrestor and cleaned it. The compression is great. Starts easily cold and hot. Any thoughts? Have you ever experienced a collapsed fuel line? If so do you suggest I replace those next? If that doesn't correct the problem then do you suggest I replace the carburetor? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. I'll be glad to compensate you for your assistance. I really like this blower. 2 cycle and light weight (20 lbs). Thanks.
i have a poulan blower that looks just like that ,, i tried to fix the tank on it like you showed but i dropped it out of a deer blind and started leaking again ,,, well my brother inlaw took it without asking and tried to start it in a tree stand to scare off a rattle snake that crawled up there and he spilled gas everywhere and cought his ass cheeks on fire ,, how should i fix this dayum thing ?? should i glue it with gorrilla glue or replace the tank ,,, thanks
By the way can you recommend a parts supplier for my shop needs to get the fuel line and other parts you use in this video! I’m in California but ordering online would work perfect just need a good supplier. Thank you again for all you do.
donyboy73 is there a specific brand I should search for to get that fuel line? I wanted to get that one because you mentioned it’s a great quality and will not vibrate off. Also do you know of it comes in bulk maybe rolls? Sorry for all the questions thank you for all your help.
+Nick R Best thing to do, in my opinion, is to find the illustrated parts list online using the model and serial number so you get the correct list. After finding the part number of the part you need enter just the part number into a Google search, then search ebay.
I am having problems with my stihl bg 55 not raving up, just idles. I pulled the spark arrester screen, it's clean. also pressure/vac the fuel lines, no leaks. should I replace carb?
Dony, I have a question about a previous vid. Doing my valves on a Tecumseh HM100 10 hp. The caps on top of the valve springs, do they both have a white plastic or Teflon seal or just the intake and NO seal on the exhaust because of heat?
+bayernmotor I had a snowblower with a new champion I couldn't get it to run right at all. put an ngk in and solved the problem it ran perfect. and put a champion in a car and see what happens
Thanks for posting this. Saved my bacon today, and you kept it up for six. Appreciate it.
You are a gifted small engine mechanic sir. Thanks for sharing you talents.

thank you for the clear and detailed rebuild. Your video helped to rebuild my carburettor
Thank you so much, for your wealth of knowledge, I been binge watching your videos since I found your channel and it has helped me tremendously.
Great job Professor. I wish you would teach school on small engined. I would want to come to your classes.
Excellent step-by-step video Don. I truly appreciate your style and presentation. Your vidoes make the viewer feel like they are right there with you, working on the task at hand. Again, keep up the outstanding work. You are an excellent teacher and mentor to so many. -JD
+James David thanks David!
Good tip, Dony. I bet it works well when the clutch has that bearing encased.
One of the best videos on small engine carbs and tune ups that I have watched.
Thank you for a comprehensive video on carbs for small 4 strokes.
Excellent VIDEO.
I’ve always liked these older walbro carbs as they seem to last a really long time and don’t have as many issues as modern EPA carbs.
You are an amazing mechanic... But you make it even more amazing with your excellent verbal skills and descriptions... thank you
One of those nice pb300es. Those are some RARE blowers
Amazingly well-explained. Thank you!
very good video. great close up shots and excellent editing. thanks
+James Mullins thanks

Your close ups are amazing. Thanks Don
+Bruce Pender thanks, a lot of work though
very well explained... just follow all his instructions and tips and you'll be close enough for success.
Beautifully done.......loves the way you explained......thank you
Thanks again Donny, I was going to order a new coil until you said to turn on the switch, I did and guess what "Spark"!!!! you saved me $70 thanks again
Excellent video! Your videos always leave me with the confidence that I can repair my machines with confidence. Thanks for sharing.
you're welcome
Thanks Dony. Lots of information. Excellent work
Good job dony
Cleanly executed my friend....

+TheOtherBill Or a drain hole, springs and small bolts and nuts find those holes a lot.
Excellent video Don. Sure wish you were my neighbor here in Florida
Thanks Don, you just reminded me to check under the diaphram gasket. Even though it looked clean, I forgot that it could be trashed underneath it. It's going to be the reason why my blower doesn't start!
Great Video, I've got a old Echo PB-202, and a Pb-400. I love those old blowers.
Another great video! I love these. Thanks Don!
Very detailed and helpful vid...as always
Excellent video (as usual) Don. Thanks for sharing.

+Mowersandstuff thanks
Love your videos Don. You mentioned using a pressure tester to test the carb. Could you explain how to do that, or maybe do a video sometime ?
Just look it up. Not being rude. Found a very professional video on here from a tech

Dony : what are the most common size gas line sizes for push mowers and the common gas line sizes for weedeater .

Ok thanks

Very informative video thanks. Is height adjustment of the lever same for every brand of carburetor. Carb is Zama on Mcculoch PM374 chainsaw.
consistently awesome videos!!!!!!

i have a leaf blower that does not blow hard enough and it shuts down if i try to speed it up, it only can be idling poorly what do you think it might be? the carburetor looks clean i think it be the fuel filter
Thanks for the video, it was very informative. I guess you don't always have to remove the idle screws when you clean the carb?
+Pete Ciallella not always
Since a coil for a backpack Redmax is very expensive to buy new. What would you suggest to keep cost low ??? Thanks VF
How about a Stihl BR 500,550 or 600 backpack blower fuel system rebuild Donyboy?? Would love to see some work
+gerry6310 ok

Excellent help, Dony. What kind of gloves do you use that don't melt while handling fuel?
+sabr686 nitrile
+donyboy73 Thx! Source?
WHy do you mix 45:1? Less carbon buildup?
When do you replace a carburetor on a 2 cycle engine?
Hey . 👋 my Stihl BR420 Magnum bogs down and then dies. Like a slow death . I've cleaned the carb, the spark arrestor and the fuel filter is clean. What is your theory as what is wrong?
Well don’t have to worry about mosquitoes 😂😂

+Eddie the Grouch I re-adjust if necessary after the filter is installed. usually a good clean filter makes no difference
where do you buy that quaker state one lube?
Where do you get your pressure tester from. And what is the possible part number for it.

What is the model number of that leaf blower? Thank you.
Question: why is there always multiple possible holes into which the throttle wire may be located?
they make them for more than one machine. if it was make for just one machine, it would cost a lot more.

@@paulrhodes482tygon or black STIHL fuel line
donyboy73 thank you for all your help have a wonderful day!
What sizes are these fuel lines ?
Is it wise to by fuel line in bulk for weedeaters, lawn mowers, chain saws, etc. ?
yes if you do a lot of repairs
Who do you get your bulk fuel line from?
We got a Echo PB4500 with the airfilter on top. You have any idea if the airfilter lid can be re-ordered? I don't know if they are still made.
+Nick R Best thing to do, in my opinion, is to find the illustrated parts list online using the model and serial number so you get the correct list. After finding the part number of the part you need enter just the part number into a Google search, then search ebay.
Smashing job don :-D
That old plug looked black, was the mixture too rich or do you think it was just the dirty carb ?
+zx8401ztv yes rich and old
+donyboy73 ha ha, your not talking about your desires for later life :-D

Dony, on a Zama carb for a craftsman leaf blower, how many turns out do the 2 adjustment screws need? Thanks.
+Dastardly84
I'm not a pro, but I usually try 2 turns out and then lean it out from there once it starts up.
I have a Yamaha Ttr 125 the top end where the spark plug goes is striped need help pls
+Kade Hart you can try a spark plug thread chaser tool or use a spark plug heli coil repair kit
Smartest move is to replace all Champions with NGKs!
agree
+bayernmotor I had a snowblower with a new champion I couldn't get it to run right at all. put an ngk in and solved the problem it ran perfect. and put a champion in a car and see what happens
