27 year old with a rising ceiling? Thor is def passionate but stubborn. He’s all in on a high risk bet with an unproven JJM but does not assess probability of SD surrounded by a better team. Perhaps dynasty? Sam’s talent tank is only half empty. KOC will be exploiting his running in the playoffs. I can’t wait to hear humble Thor when SammyD starts breaking all Viks QB records. He’ll be a doubter until he dies. I wish him the best. Note, SammyD was always expected to be the starter this year. I’m sure he was told that to. JJ was going to sit out the entire year then some if Darnold balled out (ie Jordon Love). Judd is right there is a no trade clause in Sam’s contract (standard boiler plate ). DJ was allowed to join because Darnold has the leverage.
JJ is a risk but you are forgetting the most predictable result of a decision to resign Sam: the lost players that we can't sign/keep due to the lost cap space. They laid out what happened in 2018 when they spent QB money on Kirk: we lost the amazing D that got us so far the year before. Were you even listening?
It isn’t apples to apples with the cap. Darnold will make $45-50M per year. Vikings fans just endured six seasons of good but not elite QB play and the high salary and impacted roster that goes with it. JJ plus studs at IOL and CB > Darnold. The cap is real and it matters. Elite QB, consistent elite drafting (the least sustainable option), or rookie scale QB are the best paths to a Super Bowl.
@@brandfixerif Darnold take them deep or to a SB, he may just sign a friendly 3 year deal 115M. He’s chill with letting his talent speak for itself. No guarantee with JJ
I trust KOC and Kwesi to make the right decision. If they feel re-signing Sam is the right move, then I trust them that they know something that none of us know. Why not let the people you hired to run the team, run the team? If they think sticking with JJ is the right move, good. I trust them over any talking head on social media.
Normally enjoy listening to their perspectives but these guys are nuts. The goal is to find a QB who can lead us right now and in the near future. You have a qb who has top 5 stats and has lead us to 11-2 record and you guys think we should just let him walk? More often than not drafting rookie QBs and hoping they will be your QB for many years to come is stupid. What percentage of first round QBs actually make it? Maybe 25 to 30 percent of drafted first round QBs are still there 5 yrs from now so this notion that you MUST put all your eggs in the first round QBs basket is insane. Darnold is balling better than Captain Kirk has ever balled here and you guys think it’s easy to just let him walk. I hope you guys re listen to your videos and actually hear yourself talking. Darnold is a great QB and having another year of him knowing the system will continue to raise his roof. I can’t wait until this McCarthy situation blows up in our face and you guys will choke on your words. We have NO CLUE that this kid can even handle passing as much as we do. He was in a run first offense in college and barely threw the ball and now you guys think it’s smart to put all your eggs in his basket?!!! In my Cris Carter voice C’mon mannnnnnnm
Exactly 😂. And I had a guy this offseason try to argue with me, back when it was unknown if Kirk was gonna resign, that Rick was a way better GM than Kwesi because he knew how to negotiate contracts. I never understood that argument because Rick just laid down and gave into every demand that these player’s agents asked for. If Rick was still here, he without a doubt, would have gave Kirk that contract that ATL gave him.
Here is my question. If Sam Darnold leads the Vikings to an NFC championship game in Philadelphia, and the Vikings win because Sam makes big time throws that lead to the win, I don’t see how you don’t at least sit down and figure out what number we would be comfortable offering Sam to stay. What is the goal here? Is it to win a Super Bowl, or is it to create a bunch of cap space to bring in guys who may or may not work out? To me, having a dude who can make big time throws that lead to a win in a championship game in a hostile environment is a big part of winning a Super Bowl. I’m not saying give Sam a blank check, but to not at least look at our options under this scenario would be malpractice.
I love McCarthy, I think he's going to be a good NFL QB. With that said, you don't mess around at the QB position. When you have a known commodity vs unknown, you take what's in front of you. The same fans would be outraged if Darnold lit it up somewhere else.
Some people in this fan base are just plain fickle. The position most coveted by every NFL team is the QB position. It's hard enough to find 1 starter, let alone a backup that has a high level to win if the starter goes down. In 63 years, Minnesota has been lucky to have 1 legit starter. They now have at minimum 2 with a possibility of 3 legit NFL starters in-house. What are some wanting to do? Dismantle the roster of QBs because they're fan boys of a person vs. a team's success. The Vikings have the cap space to absorb, keeping all 3 of them depending on their demands, and I don't see any wanting out, Jones, maybe? A novel idea. Let them all play for the starting job, and let the best man win. Amount of contract or draft position of be damned. They can all be the future, not just one. Out of the 3 only 1 has had on field NFL success with Minnesota, all others have to this point is potential. Potential to be as good or better or be a step back. They all have unknows, but you can't let unknowns drive the bus. Two people's jobs depend on moves they make, so it’s not like talking heads that have the crystal ball of hindsight and no worries of job security. Minnesota is in the drivers seat to make the best decision on all these guys. They're all in-house every day and know what each have to offer, and that’s what should be the driving force on the outcome of the QB position. Not being thrifty and worrying about feelings. Best man top spot earned. This is a good problem, so stop making it bad. They have the 6th best cap. They have a young, unproven rookie that hasn't taken a snap for a year but has the hope of huge upside. They have a young top 3 pick that is finally in a spot to shine and knows it. They have another that is weighing his options, and they have first dibs if they like what they see. There's no downside. I don’t care they drafted JJM ( he was one of the two I wanted) feelings pushed aside he's under contract for at least 3 more years. He was never promised the starting job in 2024 or beyond. That was the hope of most fans. They'll have room to still build a roster and keep multiple QBs, even the guy that has them at 11-2 and a new contract in 2025. They'll be able to do exactly what Tampa did and not use a tag, which would cost more and makes little to no sense. Like Mayfield's contract, it's about the gtd money vs. the end number. Mayfield's contact is in the real world, a 3 year 50 million deal, not 100 million. Tampa holds the keys. Minnesota can do the exact same thing with dead years to absorb the signing bonus and make it very affordable if they choose while paying Sam a very good wage yet team friendly to build around him. He actually has dead years to 2028 now to do just what I described above. The absolute worst case is to use a tag, which would be 100% guaranteed against the cap when given, signed, or not and taken away from Minnesota during free agency when they need money to build. Sam would get 41+ million this way vs. a much smaller hit with a contract agreement, and I think both sides will manage to get that done. Sam knows the downside of the NFL before this year, and so does everyone else. He can do 1 of 2 things improve or go backward. The "BIG BAG" isn’t going to be offered like most talking heads are saying. Find me the team Sam wants outside of Minnesota that has the cap space the need and draft capital to trade and also give a huge contract. I'm looking and don't see a great landing spot. Sam isn’t going to put himself in a bad position again. If anyone thinks talking heads or insiders have any information on Minnesota’s offseason plans before this year ends they might want to contact KAM and KOC. KOC just stated they're worried about the Bears and being 1-0 . The rest is just white outside noise.
Just my own personal opinion but comparing the Darnold situation to the Keenum situation is apples and oranges. I get that Thor is a McCarthy fan but his logic here is so asinine. Keenum is a career journeyman and an undrafted qb who had a horseshoe stuck up his butt that magical year. The other is a highly touted top 3 pick with Talent up the wazoo who is playing up to his ability.
Minnesota must retain SAM at all costs at this moment it is the best option it is true JJ is the future of the team but having SAM at this level of play gives the opportunity for JJ to recover and train correctly without throwing him when playing without the enough additional preparation SAM would be the best 2nd QB in the league and gives us bench depth that most teams don't have SKOL !!!
Maybe have someone on who supports bringing back Darnold to counter Thor. He's the single biggest McCarthy fan out there and you'll never have an honest discussion about the pros and cons of Darnold vs. McCarthy when he's on the show.
Darnold is actually looking more like USC Darnold and that is what had all the draft analysts excited. The beauty of Darnold is that this isn't his ceiling in this offense. He has gotten progressively better, with only two subpar games up to this point in the season. The playoffs will be the determining factor to has Darnold finally arrived. If he plays out during the playoffs, how could you not resign a known commodity?
@newdaddio5629 Agreed, he's 27, been through all the learning process, that McCarthy doesn't even know is coming! McCarthy may be everything as advertised, but we don't know, and there will be a learning curve! Darnold is 11 and 2 today, this can't be ignored! Cousins got better the longer he played in this offense, Darnold looks like he's starting to feel it! The team is hitting it's stride, buckle up, and enjoy the magic carpet ride!
It is also safe to say there is guys out there that know more than Thor that think the Vikings should keep same if they make the Super Bowl. You don’t dump winners. Thor seems like Glenn close in fatal attraction when it comes to McCarthy.
Not having any thought to sign Darnold is as dumb as not being able to utilize your rookie top 10 qb on his first contract. That's how impressive Darnold has been. The fact that Thor can't acknowledge that at all is rediculous. Really putting all his stock in JJ. I think JJ has a bright future, but putting ALL of your stock in a rookie after Darnold's season so far is flat out dumb.
It's due to the salary though. Also think about this...JJ just has to be as good as Darnold was with the jets...because if that's the case see what darnold can do on the vikings so therefore JJ just has to match darnold on jets type level
I’m not sure you’re understanding fully. The main reason Sam can be as good as he is is because of KOC’s coaching and the strategy of having a cheaper QB in order to have a stronger overall team. KOC makes the QBs this good.
And we should keep Daniel jones too because as a vikings fan i cant stand seeing our starting qb go down then we are stuck with c- to d+ backup qb man i miss the the 90's when your backup still qb gave your team a good chance to win games
O SKOLY NIGHT~ to the tune of O Holy Night ~ by David Pribula O SKOLY night! the Viks are brightly shining. This is the year we win our Super Bowl, Long was the path so many years we’ve waited, Till Sam appeared and receivers caught first downs. A thrill of hope- our weary fans rejoicing. For yonder breaks a great and glorious game! Super Bowl CHAMPS! O hear the Viking skol chant! One time, before I die, O night when Vikings win! one time, one Super Bowl before I die!
Thor has an amazing take that more Vikings fans need to understand this is the first time in many years that the Vikings have a qb on a rookie contract would be a waste to not use it properly
@ I just don’t understand that if people are getting good output from Sam, why not give him baker mayfield money. Gifting a qb to other team would be mistake
@@DerrickRG means just baker money. 50 mil split in 2 year guaranteed. Not too much. NFL is different than college. You least saw how Sam played but we don’t know JJ.
If Rick said then we should do the opposite or just do what Koc wants. KOC hasn’t led us the wrong way yet. Let kwesi cook up in free agency again and sign a big time corner or DT. Prioritize signing Bynum then Murphy. Then finally give time for McCown and o Connell to raise up McCarthy. The Purple’s golden era is right there in our face no need to overthink it.
Darnold with KOC coaching is a top 6 QB in NFL right now! Sam is perfect KOC QB fit: Big QB, Very mobile. Huge Arm, Throws with anticipation. Sam gets KOC value. He may agree to a 2 yr deal at reasonable 35-40 mill per. McCarthy season ending knee injury needs time and JJ needs a season to get practice reps and hopefully watch Sam win a SuperBowl.
Sam Darnold is better then Kirk Cousins. Though the scenario seems similar it's really not when you look at the talent. Thor is so smart. Why hasn't an NFL franchise signed him for 7 figures to run their scouting department and draft room?
Mackey and Judd are too reverent towards Thor here. Believe me, if Darnold takes them to the Super Bowl, he's the quarterback here for 3 years minimum if healthy. I get the cap thing, but the whole goal is to win a Super Bowl. If Darnold plays them to one or wins it he's a Viking believe me. McCarthy has a knee issue possibly as well obviously
Thor listen to what you’re saying. Was it that Darnold sucks or is it he didn’t have the right people around him to be groomed the correct way? KOC is good but even last year we seen they could only do so much with the pastronaught. Darnold is the real deal and we should be smart and keep him if we can do that for the right price.
I think our defensive line has shown to be pretty darn solid but I get what Thor is saying. My like to improves are G, 3rd/4th WR (I like Speedy but the drops are a problem), HB if Jones doesn’t return, DT, CB .
What if McCarthy doesn’t play close to what darnold is this year and Vikings make the Super Bowl? It could end up being like the curse of the bambino sort of thing. A lot of people missed on Jackson. Just like a lot of people missed on diggs
People seem to forget that prior to his injury there was discussion within the Vikings camp of JJ starting as quarterback he was over taking Darnold in training camp if KOC see something in him believe that is the case
Q: Must we only play with rookie qb contracts from now on until we get a Joe Montana etc...? Isn't there room to have a franchise qb contract for Sam, keep the roster full of good players AND bring along JJ, like they used to bring along rookies in the past? I'm worried that Thor's brilliant instincts and genius might be obstructed from a potentially flawed first premise that you can only win with rookie scale qb contracts. Maybe there is more nuance to his thinking but it seems to me in this case that Darnold is not a fair comparison to Cousins and has already proved that. Yes we drafted a 1st round pick; Sam IS a first round pick who has already shown way more skill than most qb's starting today. Love always, GoneByDawnSean
The complaint by others is that signing Sam would prevent the Vikings from signing other players. In which case, my answer would be to them : "That's not for you to worry about. That's for Kwesi to concern himself with. If he decides to go with Sam, he will figure it out. His weakness is the Draft, not Free Agency, Trades, or contracts"
Just getting around to checking this video out. Thanks for having Thor on and I usually agree with him. I'm not a Ravens fan, but I'm so glad the Lamar ended up with the Ravens. Zim would have tried to destroy him.
This is all interesting and not keeping Darnold may help the Vikings in the long term because you would have a position that typically costs a ton cost much less. That of course requires McCarthy to be as good or better than Darnold. If not, you are trading more draft picks to "move up and draft a franchise quarterback on a rookie-scale contract" again. And continuing to wait to win.
Remind him he actually has a chance to win a Super Bowl here. If he allows us to keep him for 20 or 25 million for next one to two years. We would actually still have enough cape space to improve are team. If he stays with us his value is only going to go up.
Speaking of a perfect fit for the Rams, I saw Stafford elude a pass rush and unleash a throw almost exactly the way Darnold did when he threw the long ball to JJ. Same kind of move, but Stafford emerged to his left and made a great throw. Problem is, if Stafford is still healthy enough to do that, then why would he retire? These guys love the game, and they don't retire until they've got nothing left.
Because Stafford is 37 and next season is the last year of his deal and he will be 38. Father time is an enemy that is undefeatable. I imagine the Rams will be eventually thinking of moving on mainly due to that but who knows?
I'm not saying what they should or shouldn't do but dismissing the idea of keeping Darnold is ridiculous. Situations and plans change in the league all the time
Agreed but it’s not as simple as JJM vs Darnold. It’s rookie scale contract and JJM vs likely 40M+ contract and Darnold. Is retaining Darnold at a higher cost in a year where you have very few draft picks making the team better? How do we weigh a guy that KOC picked vs a vet who is out performing. Will a year of tape on Darnold give teams the means to counter next year causing a slump?
I remember in 2012 when Spielman was coming in from the Dolphins that the knock against him was he was never able to properly evaluate qbs. At this point I would do the opposite of whatever he suggests.
I'm not typically a Vikings doom and gloomer, but wouldn't it be such a Vikings thing if they let Sam walk (however they do) and McCarthy has the injury bug?
I think it's going to go down like KOC and Sam agreed on. I don't think Sam would mind being franchise tagged, or Sign a contract to be traded. We got pretty solid QB play for cheap, and Darnold was given the chance to vastly increase his value. It's a win-win. I predict Sam will be gone next season however.
I know alot of people may hate this opinion but i say franchise tag sam for one year because it would give our rookie a little more time to get back to health and develop and sam would make a good chunk of change for one season also we know he can have success with our weapons
Love all the insights that Thor brings to the discussion. FOOTBALL!!!!....Interesrting dynamics how players fit in the team structures within the coaching frameworks. Winners to losers and then losers to winners. Enjoying a fun season with your great comments and all the Purple Daily productions... SKOL VIKINGS
Definetly a wreckless speculation going on here. McCarthy has not did a single play. If Darnold goes to the second round you really think he is going to be canned? Sure, if he is a one and done. But this is pure wreckless thoughts especially since Alex Smith was a one and done when Mahomes came in the next year. CRAZY Wreckless Thought!
Rams don't have a 2nd round pick and I don't know if they would send a 1st for Darnald. Maybe Tennessee? And I also see a lot of drafts have the Vikings getting a 7th round pick from Pittsburgh do to the Jesse Davis trade from 2 years ago.
Thank God for Thor. He's one of the few reasonable people talking about the Vikings these days. There is no reason to waste money on a quarterback with KOC at the helm. Go get a giant defensive tackle and maybe even a center and a guard that know how to run and pass block.
Yep, the best move for any GM or HC is to move on from a 27 year old QB that has you at 11-2 and is gaining more and more momentum. Especially when you have the 6th most cap and can afford to keep him and still build a team around him. Thank God the talking heads that have all this hindsight are so smart. Yes, it's sarcasm. That move would put KOC and KAM on the street. Talking heads get clicks and get paid.
@DystopianUtopia8 So you have nothing? Thanks for playing. Your response is one of someone that has nothing to offer for a counter option. Have a great day.
the issue with rolling with JJ is you dont know how he will play and if he ends up a bust then you wasted assets you acquire with the rookie deal and if your QB play isnt strong in the division you are in trouble
McCarthy could end up a bust or a star, or in-between. It's not the case that he was healthy and played well for a few games before getting injured. They would be pinning our hopes on a guy who was rated below Williams, below Daniels, below Maye, and [by many] below Penix, and [by some] below Nix.
@deshantepeterson3263 If the Vikings had given up two FGs to the Raiders and lost another game or two, O'Connell might have had a chance to get Drake Maye. Would he have taken McCarthy instead? Would he have traded back to get McCarthy. O'Connell allegedly thought the 2024 Vikings would have been a playoff team with post-Achilles Cousins.
They were booing Sam up until the mid 3rd quarter against the Cardenal's Now we are so eager to spend all the money we were going to use to build the team up after 4 good Quarters. JJ is our Qb we waited forever to draft.Tell them Thor.
"They were booing Sam up until the mid 3rd quarter against the Cardenal's" >>> They were booing the whole team actually. Now a week later, they were chanting MVP.
For anyone saying to sign darnold, yes hes been balling and deserves all the money. But kwesi and koc built this team to be designed for a rookie scale qb. Siging darnold to a big contract completely nullifies what theyre building. They cant afford sam along with jettas, darrisaw and etc. They drafted for a reason and koc woukdnt move up unless he was confident hes the future. Id personally love darnold for one more year but he isnt gonna sign a one year deal. So sit back enjoy the szn and be ready for our future franchise qb😈
Couldn't agree with you anymore. People are acting like Darnold is Tom Brady. There's a reason we got him for 10 mil. I can see the Vikes maybe tagging Darnold for another yr. As McCarthy was injured. But more likely they will tag and trade Darnold. It would be complete idiocy to sign Darnold and waste McCarthy rookie deal. That money is better off spent upgrading this roster. Like a CB, DT, G, C or hell all of those. You sign Darnold and we are right back to where we were with Cousins....
@Razorbacks1 I think it's more we spent a top 10 pick on McCarthy, and Darnold was never meant to be a long-term fit here. Rookie QB contracts are the most coveted contracts in the NFL. Vikings are setup offensively to take advantage of that. When you have Jettes, JA, Hock and a decent offensive line. Most QBs can put up decent numbers. Hell, Nick Mullens was putting up 300 yards each game he played last yr. Dobbs even had a few games around 250. They were scoring mid 20s in each game outside the Raiders game. So KOCs scheme is more what's making Darnold.
So lets dissect your logic,Spielman is an idiot who could never find a qb but assembled quality rosters otherwise, we now have an obvious gem of talent performing before our eyes and you want to Spielman him into oblivion so we can assemble quality players and wait 20-50 years looking for a talented qb you guys need to get a grip and don’t feed me the McCarthy crap because it’s just crap
A GM who had mediocre success thinks he knows how to build a championship calibur team. I love it. The #1 priority of any team that wants to have a real chance at winning it all is drafting a QB. He tried it once and everything was right there for the taking but why he never tried again is beyond me.
They act like the packers are in a bad place because the f paying Love, back to back playoffs appearance, a play off win, youngest team n the league, signed X and Jacob’s in the off season. I think they are doing alright.
Now that this team is 11-2 and are a legit contender, anyone else wondering if Thor still believes the team “wasted” all those critical important franchise altering day 3 picks at the deadline…..
Wouldn't tagging Darnold benefit him because it guarantees a big pay day for the next year and then the next team can be free to whatever contract they want
Are you all forgetting who our HC was in ‘18? Zimmer’s OC choices were very hit and miss. There’s no way we can say Lamar turns out the way he is now had he ended up with us. I honestly believe Zimmer would’ve ruined him. We gotta stop believing that drafting a QB in that scenario would’ve worked in our favor because the history under Zimmer/Spielman says something different.
How many years did Arod sit behind Brett F? Why are we in a rush for starting JJ? Thor is dead wrong to rush an unproven Qb with a great veteran team that wants Sam Darnold here!! Give Sam another year and let JJ recover fully and learn and watch. Sam has earned another year if he wants to stay here, or he can leave for the really big contract.
I honestly don’t believe the discourse around Darold being a “1 year audition for the NFL.” If you listen to any KOC or Kwesi interviews you would’ve heard how much they believe in Darold and the production he produces as a leader and QB. They don’t believe he’s a bridge QB. Franchise tag Darold for another year and continue to let JJMC develop. A couple of positive meaningless preseason games from JJMC does not mean he’ll be a top 10 QB year next year. We don’t know that. Sure, the upside and youth is there however, after two surgeries, he doesn’t need to be rushed on the field. If the Vikings let Darold walk and either have Jones or JJMC start next season, I believe it would be a questionable decision.
Umm I wonder how JJ McCarthy would've done if he would've been drafted 3rd by the Jets instead of Sam and had to play in that train wreck of an organization Just sayin'
And BTW… just because we REACHED for a QB in the top 10 doesn’t make him a top 10 QB. Hes not a top 10 player out of that draft. This we MUST start a first round QB idea is what has ruined many QBs in the past. Sorry, more NFL teams should draft QBs and groom them for 2 yrs before sticking them right in to play. Sadly some teams are so sorry that they have to force these kids in and at the QB position more than any other position you should take your time and bring him along slowly.
"This we MUST start a first round QB idea is what has ruined many QBs in the past. " >>> And the funny thing is : We have a perfect example in Sam Darnold of why starting a rookie right out of the gate ruins many QBs.
Thor is brilliant. That's why it makes me uncomfortable to disagree with him on this. Bring Sam back for one or two years, I say. I think the Vikings might do that if we reach NFC championship or further.
Franchise Sam. Explore the trade market and then see what happens. You could get a lot or maybe nothing. Another year of JJ development with Sam continuing as bridge is not the worst thing if no trade happens. They still have cap room to add at least a guard and CB.
Can't wait to hear the Vikings players and fans when McCarthy has a mediocre year next year as the starter and the team is around .500,,,and it will definitely happen!
I have been saying since the very beginning of this year after my boyfriend who’s been a Viking fan forever and comes from part of that world that once they got rid of the quarterback, that would never win how did they end up this way you I saw the guy and I said I don’t know why can’t he just win it and then they can win the second one the year after or whatever but I saw no reason why the team that I’m looking at right nowcouldn’t win the Super Bowl and I still play the same since the beginning
Just remember all this JJ love is coming from the guy who said Kellon Mond was a ‘great pick’ and said Malik Willis was the ‘best quarterback on the entire NFL draft board.’ He won’t say anything positive about to Darnold because it goes against utter love for McCarthy, who has never taken a snap in a regular season game. All this talk about McCarthy being the savior franchise qb is wild speculation. The only thing he has in common with Tom Brady is that they both went to school at Michigan. Yes his team won a national championship and he was a first round pick but so were Mac Jones and Bryce Young.
So, the people that want to sign and trade what logic is there in it? Most teams try to avoid tags as much as possible, the biggest reason being players don't like them, and it's very team unfriendly to the cap. The other is teams that don't have the resources to afford them, get draft picks in return. For all the reasons people list to move on from Darnold are the same reasons the big "bag"theory isn't viable. Here are the reasons why I see it as the worst option. Minnesota has the cap to resign him to a multi year contract vs a 1 year fully guaranteed contract and still be big players in FA. The tag will all hit as soon as the tag is given signed or not. That dramatically hinders how they can sign in FA. Any multi year contract can be done in a team friendly manner and spread th hit out in ways it doesn't kill the team. Signing bonuses can be spread out eith dead years added if need be. Another reason is Sam is kicking butt in Minnesota and if he falls flat next year they're on the hook for 41 million in 1 year. Contract on the other hand, can smooth out the hit and also make it possible to move on without the single year huge hit. The other is if Sam is worth picks and a huge deal why would Minnesota want to move away from his services when they can afford them themselves? What good are fraft picks if they don't hit. The one area where KAM has not only struggled, but just plain fails is in the draft. I much rather trust him in FA then on draft day. I can go into details if anyone wants to debate this. I have left many things off just to keep it as short ad possible.
Tag and trade in August. Some team that thinks they're good will trade a king's ransom. Tell sam he's competing. I'm that confident that if he stays healthy Mccarthy will win the job. $41 mil for a yr is a steal (if that's what the 2025 qb costs). Vikes control where he goes. King's ransom. SKOL!
Why would Darnold sign a franchise tag just to be traded? He'd cripple his next team of future draft picks with a trade If he has a no franchise contract, he'll go the free agent route. He took a cut to be with the Vikings. Viking should be grateful they have him with how JJ McCarthy was unavailable this year. Dumb take.
If we had signed Case & drafted Lamar no way we get JJETS. I’m happy with the way things played out. No shot Lamar can win a ring with Zimmer as head coach.
Just think how many 7th round picks Rick could get for Darnold
What a brilliant comment!!!!
Rick is taking a beating LOL. QB was his only blind spot as a GM but Damn if Rick wasn't completely deaf dumb & blind on that one.

I trust KOC and Kwesi to make the right decision. If they feel re-signing Sam is the right move, then I trust them that they know something that none of us know. Why not let the people you hired to run the team, run the team? If they think sticking with JJ is the right move, good. I trust them over any talking head on social media.
you are correct
not to mention their decisions led us here. why not let them complete their vision?
Facts!
Trusting them has gotten us this far and we shall continue to trust KOC & KAM.
I totally agree!
Rick would give Sam a 60m per year, fully guarentee, no trade clause.

It's only his first year in the system. Imagine how great he would be in year 5. These guys are dumb.
Bruh. Too long. Couldn’t read it all. SKOL bubba
@@vaviking33 He basically said Thor is a friggin' idiot and that the Vikings should re-sign Sam.
I want a bunch of lineman on the offense and defense!!
Keep in mind Spielman said he would take Caleb Williams over Peyton Manning and John Elway.
did he really say that
@@OliverPantsoff He sure did! Look it up it's pretty funny.
Damn. Did not know he said that. He’s always sounded like a idiot when he speaks Even with the success he had
I'm sure Thor probably wants us to draft JJ McCarthy again this year with how much he loves the guy.
I'm wondering if he has a blowup doll of him in his closet or something.
Rick was shocked at what happened on his way to the Zimmer firing. That little self awareness!
Just like all the people said it was dumb not aiming Kirk. Let the football guys do their job!

I’m not sure you’re understanding fully. The main reason Sam can be as good as he is is because of KOC’s coaching and the strategy of having a cheaper QB in order to have a stronger overall team. KOC makes the QBs this good.
Koc can coach talent is talent darnold is Allen talented JJ is at best burdy talented don't be stupid
And we should keep Daniel jones too because as a vikings fan i cant stand seeing our starting qb go down then we are stuck with c- to d+ backup qb man i miss the the 90's when your backup still qb gave your team a good chance to win games

Another terrible take by thor.
Not signing Sam for at least one year(franchise) or preferably a two year deal could be a mistake.
Thor has an amazing take that more Vikings fans need to understand this is the first time in many years that the Vikings have a qb on a rookie contract would be a waste to not use it properly
Thor praising Mike Lombardi made me question him for the first time.
You guys are talking as JJ McCarthy will be future hall of famer
Mackey said earlier this fall that the drafting of McCarthy was one of the op 3 moments in franchise history. One of the dumbest takes ever.
@ I just don’t understand that if people are getting good output from Sam, why not give him baker mayfield money. Gifting a qb to other team would be mistake
And you guys are talking up Sam as a HOFer as well.
@@DerrickRG nope just give 50 mil guaranteed and see how JJ is doing.
No
@@DystopianUtopia8 Yes
Joe Montana and steve young? No?
That's all I needed , Now I'm sure JJ is the guy.....Thanks for your QB expertise Rick !!
Exactly
Great comment.
Very interesting convo. Thorsday always one of my favorite PD shows.
@punisher5598 agree to a point but it's not just about gaining financial advantage
I'd think the team and player have convo as to where they're traded to

Alex Smith was with the Chiefs for 5 seasons. Far from one and done.

So sit back enjoy the szn and be ready for our future franchise qb😈
maybe get him on a two year if the price is right then trade him on his second year of the deal
I think more people are intoxicated with McCarthy being Tom Brady than Darnold.
So trade him for a top 3 pick and get the BPA on A ROOKIE SCALE CONTRACT.
Whatever they decide to do, it will NOT be due to ANYTHING that guy says.
Rick, THANK YOU for JJ and Darrisaw....but maybe keep the QB takes on the shelf 🤣
Phill you can undo the tag.
Thorsday is the best day of the week.
Rick is George Constanza. DO THE OPPOSITE!!!
There's a reason he's our former GM.
Consider the source.
Why are we beating what to do w Sam D when we have an 11-2 team & TONS of topic ideas around “this” year.
Wouldn't tagging Darnold benefit him because it guarantees a big pay day for the next year and then the next team can be free to whatever contract they want
yes
Are you all forgetting who our HC was in ‘18? Zimmer’s OC choices were very hit and miss. There’s no way we can say Lamar turns out the way he is now had he ended up with us. I honestly believe Zimmer would’ve ruined him. We gotta stop believing that drafting a QB in that scenario would’ve worked in our favor because the history under Zimmer/Spielman says something different.
Didn't Danielle Hunter get a no franchise tag provision when he re-did his last contract with the Vikings?
How many years did Arod sit behind Brett F? Why are we in a rush for starting JJ? Thor is dead wrong to rush an unproven Qb with a great veteran team that wants Sam Darnold here!! Give Sam another year and let JJ recover fully and learn and watch. Sam has earned another year if he wants to stay here, or he can leave for the really big contract.
If Kirk cousins had koc when he first came to MN. We would have gone to the nfc championship or super bowl in 2017/2018
I honestly don’t believe the discourse around Darold being a “1 year audition for the NFL.”
If you listen to any KOC or Kwesi interviews you would’ve heard how much they believe in Darold and the production he produces as a leader and QB.
Anyone have the receipts on Thor and Sam earlier in the season? When has he ever been right? 😂
>>> And the funny thing is : We have a perfect example in Sam Darnold of why starting a rookie right out of the gate ruins many QBs.
Anyone else having this issue ???

I have been saying since the very beginning of this year after my boyfriend who’s been a Viking fan forever and comes from part of that world that once they got rid of the quarterback, that would never win how did they end up this way you I saw the guy and I said I don’t know why can’t he just win it and then they can win the second one the year after or whatever but I saw no reason why the team that I’m looking at right nowcouldn’t win the Super Bowl and I still play the same since the beginning
Just remember all this JJ love is coming from the guy who said Kellon Mond was a ‘great pick’ and said Malik Willis was the ‘best quarterback on the entire NFL draft board.’
He won’t say anything positive about to Darnold because it goes against utter love for McCarthy, who has never taken a snap in a regular season game.
All this talk about McCarthy being the savior franchise qb is wild speculation. The only thing he has in common with Tom Brady is that they both went to school at Michigan. Yes his team won a national championship and he was a first round pick but so were Mac Jones and Bryce Young.
just remember everything you said doesn't mean anything
Dude is a clown. Feel like the show losses credibility whenever he’s on
Easy to second guess Thor
The Vikings are not going to let Sam go for free. They are going to franchise him and trade or keep.
Thorsday's are the best 👍
Big time!
SKOL!
"war daddy in the middle" 🙂
Why would Darnold sign a franchise tag just to be traded? He'd cripple his next team of future draft picks with a trade If he has a no franchise contract, he'll go the free agent route. He took a cut to be with the Vikings. Viking should be grateful they have him with how JJ McCarthy was unavailable this year. Dumb take.
Riverboat gambler vs. War daddy
this is my weekly request for Thor to put his phone on vibrate when he does the show, its not hard
Shut the phone OFF !!!
If we had signed Case & drafted Lamar no way we get JJETS. I’m happy with the way things played out. No shot Lamar can win a ring with Zimmer as head coach.
