Preparing and planting the hay field after it was accidentally sprayed with herbicide.

- Our Hay Field was Accidentally sprayed with Herbicide a couple months ago. It killed a good portion of the Hay I planted. We have decided to start all over and replant the Hay Field Again with the same seed. This time it will be a fall planting and we re-did the soil test. We fertilized the field and added pelleted lime to the field to adjust the PH of the soil. We disked the field several times before planting the hay seed. Hopefully the seed will grow this fall and we will have a good hay field in the spring. Everything is now settled with the company that accidentally sprayed the field, and it now behind us and we can move on to other things.

Maybe think of putting a gate with a lock in that opening so it doesn't happen again. Happy that everything worked out for you!
Field looks perfect. This farmer will be an asset to you in the future.

Glad to see the hay field planted. Now this winter when you should have some spare time, get out there and cut those hedge rows back and high so you can drive under them.
That's good news. Glad to hear a big company didn't just over look their mistake
Take a length chain link fencing and some chain to hook it onto the back of your disk , this should smooth out the ground when disking
If you make the disks a little less aggressive on the last pass it is smoother.
Glad that an attempt is being made to make you whole again. Thank goodness the farmer was willing to help. In the future I'd put up gates separating the two fields as well as no trespassing signs specifically stating that your field is off limits to everyone including anyone who does business with your farmer.
So glad it is being resolved. glad they kept their word so this can be put behind all concerned.
Hi..... Thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Best UA-cam Channel
Glad to hear you had a somewhat amicable resolution. You're right, it's probably going to be a better field than it was originally! And you still put a whole bunch of your own work into it with all that disking.
Well at least you got a pretty good education on what grass you have and identify good luck
Evan, you’re more patient than I would be. I would have called my lawyer and started a suit. I would certainly pass your experience on to other local farmers. God bless your patience
Tom Hohenadel id have probably gone into their office and raised hell
That could of resulted in a pychopath being very very upset. It was a mistake but my property will need to be returned to original condition, before the chemicals
This is a good reason to put some lockable gates on your fields. Love your vids!
Evan, can you name the agri service again so that it’s fresh in every ones mind. Word of mouth is a good weapon
We have seen farmers use cyclone fence with concrete blocks weighing it down. Don't know if it was clay soil or not. Good neighbors are a great asset.
Am glad everything worked out some what for you and the field looks good 👍
You are blessed to have the deal made.
You can buy those spike apron that you drag behind your tractor those are good to break up those big clumps works good 👍
Well done
Field looks great!
Nice video, glad to hear an update. Cheers.
Field look wonderful Evan! I do think you need to put up gates back there! Love your farm and enjoy your video's! Great job!
If your happy then I’m happy! Field looks great!!! 👍👍👍👍🤗
3.5 acears would make a awesome family and friends camping area. Good fishing and hunting area !
Nice job 👍
What a beautiful start!! Glad it's all working itself out. New Subscriber here!!!!
Need a culti packer, spring harrow or cultimulcher would be ideal for a hay seed bed. But a packer behind that disc would do ya well. Knock all those clumps right down.
Silver lining in the dark cloud!!! I'm happy for y'all!!!
Pretty field
You are a patient man , myself I would get trough the roof and call my lawyer ASAP. Nice job, field looks good.
A Cow panel with a few tires will do wonders on smoothing it out, I use it to repair hog damage and it does work
Good luck, evan
Hope you will show that Case some love in the future . It may be old but it will still be a valuable tool even if you find the funds to upgrade someday.
What you are dragging behind the disc plough is a scarifier and does the job of a rake....Like your show with a good presentation...tks
I'm glad that it seems it's working out for you. Setbacks and delays are something that we have had to deal with on our property. Don't let it get you down. It will eventually come and work itself out. One thing that I have always thought regarding land/livestock is this. If it's "easy" then it probably isn't worth doing, otherwise there would be a lot more people doing it. I am "fighting a battle" right now just to get power and a well on my property for our future retirement place. The power company won't provide power for the camping trailer that we use on the weekends because "they don't want us living in it". Well we don't and wouldn't. We have a home that we live in and use the camping trailer on the weekends when we work on our property. I am having a well drilled so that we can tell the county that we need power for the well for "livestock and irrigation".
My point in all of this is that setbacks and delays are just that. Do the extra work to resolve the reason for the setbacks and don't be in a hurry.
Can't wait till you get cattle
Neither can I. If I can get some hay at a decent price. I may still get a couple feeder cows to raise
Broadcast seed over corn stubble. Disk. Drag. Done. It will settle and grow.
@County View Acres do you know anyone with old chain link fence can be used to dragged to leaving your grown
I used an old twin bed mattress spring behind my John Deere 116 lawn mower to harrow my mom's garden for years her garden was about a 1/2 acre
Glad things worked out to your satisfaction. It's too bad that agri-service company treated you the way that they did. Maybe they were expecting a lawsuit and were distancing themselves.
fingers crossed.
That's a leveler on the back of your disc!
You may able to buy a drag or soil finisher cheap because most people notill
Field looks a million bucks now
I saw your before shot...I would have disked it instead using the “planter” that you had. It looks better and hopefully you don’t have as many weeds as you did.
Tractors have power steering?!? Since the only ones I’ve driven are as old or older than your Case, had no idea.
Best of luck on your new field!
Lol
I remember when we worked fields way larger than this with Jubilees and 8N's and finally upgraded to a 2000.
Power steering???
Yeah, two arms and two hands and all the power you could muster!!!
Buncha wimps! LOL
My buddy stuck me in hydro shift texting and I was a duck outta water!! LOL
Glad things are moving along though, farming is tough work even when you have the modern improvements, no need to make it miserably hard.
I think I add a little more pitch in the blades on the disc.
What you held up is a maple tree seedling.
cut one of those old power poles don't that u don't need, cut it to length and chain it behind the disk and that will smooth out your field, did that for many years
I actually have a used utility pole Nd thought of doing something similar to that.
How long does it take for the soil not to register the herbicide any more?
Glad to see you and your farmer friends are on the same page sounds like he's a good guy,he may owe you some down the road take some of his advice if you need it for future in return for the mixup. Sounds like the guy that sprayed your field was probably his fault so he quit instead of being fired,if he would have stayed there guess how big his raises were gonna be.your a very good man!great videos too I just found your channel, and I hope you get 4 cuts next year
I wonder why you didn't plow this field then disked it . Makes a better seed bed .
You were too easy on them, you put a lot of work in that field, not the farmer the other the other party. I had a similar situation one time, but it was my back yard. I live by railroad tracks, they spray for weeds, the machine they had was new and the boom was 17 feet longer then before, they wipe all most a 1/2 acre of my yard out, but I had to go to court over it. They come in and redid my back yard, took over two-and-a-half years but I get it done. God bless
Looks like the dirt will hold water better the way it is, rather than smooth.
Oh man, thought I was going to be able to watch a plowing video.. good video anyways.
We used to plant fall wheat with the grass seed to stop the weeds. Looks like you will get a bumper crop next year. Now you have some time to look for a baler. Or did you get one already?
I have an old new holland square baler. It is a wire baler. It will be a while till I get to try it out.
Turn the the chain harrow over to get the smoothest results.
It isnt a chain harrow it is a chisel harrow. I dont thing you can turn it over.
put an M&W power steering kit on the 730
We have a couple fields of Johnson grass, cows eat it like candy.
The saying is "after that's all said and done" not "after that's all done and said" You have to say it and then do it. 😂❤️😂
I hope that needing to work the soil with the disc MULTIPLE (6+) times does not harm the quality of the soil. Realize it is mostly clay but my experience is the more you till the less productive the field may be. Paying for the seed , some soil enhancments, hay and ? For sure is the absolute least the Agri Service company who sprayed should do in my opinion. The guy who conceded addtl offerings to you was probably "retired" . Too bad your land tenant is stuck in the middle. Hate lawyers but it sounds like that Company you are dealing with is not very reputable ...poor herbicide mgt s a bad problem to have on your land . Hope your Fall planting works out for you. Never a dull day !
What kind of measures are you putting into place to assure it doesn't get sprayed again.????
I was thinking about a couple fence posts and stringing a chain across them.
I think the farmer was useing a brillon seeder to plant
I FEEL YOU WERE A BIT GENEROUS, BUT THATS BETTER THAN BEIN GREEDY, GOOD LUCK ON THE FARM
Is ur cap lock button stuck?
@@jw3812 NOPE, WHY

Drag some pipes behind the disc
That is great news Evan. You said there is two ways into that field, one by pond the other by neighbors side. Cant you hate up the farmers side n come across the damn? Did I hear you say cow? To eat or to hang around?
The other entrance is to another field I own, but I rent that field. And Yes a cow to eat. Not starting a herd yet.
Disagree with your landscaper/farmer. Clods act as barriers to prevent washout during heavy rain events. I'm glad you got this in your rear view mirror Evan. Sounds like you got a decent outcome. Hopefully your grass comes up to a good stand.
Wish you would have bought your fertilizer from another company though. Those guys made back some of that money they paid for the hay bales, with profit from the fertilizer you bought. Like you said, not a perfect world. Pretty sad that the company owner did exactly what many of us told you would happen. That formula for dealing with PR problems is so universal, I now believe it's in an agricultural company policy manual they all use. Their word means nothing.
Im thinking cameras and crossing gates with locks. Hope that farmer will harvest too. Terrible mistake,
What herbicide was accidentally applied? I want to have similar control before seeding, so I would love to use that same herbicide.
I believe they sprayed my field with "liberty" it is similar to round up.
@@CountryViewAcres Thank you Country View Acres.
Evan, that sounds pretty typical of large corporations, all nicey nicey at first, then forget about ya, I would have just called my lawyer, they wouldn't make that same mistake the second time, it was nice of the guy you are renting from to be the middle person, but this rarely works out as he wants to keep his relationship with the spraying company, cut out the middle guy,
Hi,how much do people pay over there for renting fields?
Mine rent for $125 an acre
Since the field was killed off with herbicide wouldn’t that have killed any grasses that were there anyway? How is this field doing now that a year has passed?
We replanted in the fall of that year. And it is a good hay field thus year. Just did our 3rd cutting of hay.
Country View Acres I should have clarified, I meant wouldn’t the herbicide have killed any “weedy grasses” that were there as you seemed like you were concerned with the possibility of Johnson grass being presented before you disced the field. The herbicide should have killed that down to the roots.
@@corydriver7634 the herbicide didn't kill all if the weedy grasses. I had to disc the field several times and started all over
Did the herbicide contain amino pyralid because thats not good it passes thru the animals system and into the manure which is known to kill crops/plants when people use it in their garden as either manure/ compost
Have you watched Greg Judy Regenerative Rancher? Great info on rotational grazing and stock info, i.e. parasite resistance.
Yes greg has a lot if good ideas.
The hay field still is contaminated with poison. How do you deal with purifying the soil before planting fresh hay?
Ok for 1 thing ? Are you following the same path for discing the field ?? Never work a field in the same way ! Work it 1 direction then work it another then Chris coss the fields in both directions !
Where are you located ?
Southeastern Illinois along the Indiana border.
You should really stay away from chemical farming. The inputs will break you. Try to do some regenerative farming. Little or no inputs, natural fertilization and the best part is no poisons on your land for your family to worry about. Good luck and find a better advisor
Mars Rover Greg Judy has some great advice regarding this farming/ranching method on his UA-cam channel.
Barnyard grass has no resemblances to Johnson grass!
Ok,now. You didn’t say you are putting up a gate with a lock . So that don’t happen again. Please do.
Never heard of anyone planting hay, grass maybe hay no
roman 8:28
I hope you sued them or that they paid you and made it right
A metal Pile behind the disk like a roller to break up,the clogs & you talk too much while your tractor is running!!
YOU SHOULD WAIT TILL ALL YOU ARE GETTING DONE IS DONE THEN JUST STOP ALL PEOPLE FROM BEING ON YOUR PROPERTY WITH OUT SAYING A WORD TO ANYONE JUST PUT GATES UP AND SIGNS LET THEM FIND OUT WHAT IT'S LIKE TO HAVE NO ANSWERS
Having a UA-cam channel could be a threat if the company had not been reasonable.
i wouldnt want anyone planting my field. id tell old boy to fill my tank with diesel and ill handle it myself.
i think you were ripped of the company have more money than you have the do not like bad publicty
You sue happy people the ag company didn't do this on purpose and he admitted to maybe be a little high on his demands seems to have come to a good end lawyers don't need to be involved in everything or you don't need to get rich over a mistake. To many whiners in this country
Imagine if you were working towards getting an organic accreditation and some fool 'accidently' sprayed your field with chemical herbicide. Now take into account to get that accreditation you now have to go back to scratch and work a further three years chemical free to get it. I bet you would be mighty pissed off and wanting compensation.
I know myself, I'm tired of paying for other peolple's lack of due care or outright stupidity.
Well said. Mistakes happen. Replanting the seed was the most he could expect.
That's what you get for renting out your land.
What you just said is called blaming the victim!! The main offender here is the company and its operators. !
