We will miss seeing you working on the build But when your not yet set for winter you do what you have to do, It will give you a break & time to make the plans you need for spring planting 😊,
Ohhh remembering that this is last season - we will be posting for Season 3 so there is never a break in our posts... it works out kind of well. You guys won't even notice a difference...
Yes, it is on my rainy day project. Once I get a suitable shop built, I plan to move it inside so I have a nice dry place to work on it. Thanks for watching! -Ryan.
Thank you, Melodi & Ryan & Opal. It's an honor to the memory of the original homesteaders that you've chosen this most beautiful spot on the island to build your own home. Opal is so glad that her home is so much fun and so full of love that she can barely contain herself! I really like Melodi's hat to help keep her ears warm. Stay well. Thank you.🏝🐕👫😊
Yes, my wife is very practical when it comes to wilderness clothing. And you are correct... Opal just LOVES it out here! Thank you for your always positive commentary! -Ryan
Hello my Wild Holm friends I see winter has approached you all . I pray you all get out of there before the lake ices up. I sure miss you guys .A Cajun friend from Louisiana.
For some reason, I can’t seem to find the reply. Space unless I click on somebody else’s post. Is it me or is it the way this site is? Anyhow, what a wonderful year and I can understand why you were so reluctant to leave Hopefully, the winter passes quickly, and we can watch you set out on the barge for another journey into your future 😊

I think it’s a good idea about spreading out your home but I think I would back it up even more because water does come over. It’s boundaries sometimes. I really don’t want to say the “flood” word. I’m sure you guys thought about all that. I can’t say it enough I love the frosted trees. They are just magical. God certainly Blessed us with His creative universe and this place we call earth. Miraculous views! May He protect your land while you’re away?🎄
I know right?! Wasn't that trip along the shore magical?? I was awestruck. As far as the cabin goes, I'll put it up on cement pilings, raising it up another couple of feet. That will take care of any 100 year flood event. Thank you for your concern! -Ryan
❤The scenery is gorgeous even when iced over! God is quite the artist. It’s a bit sad to see you leaving the island. Looking forward to your upcoming adventures. Love n prayers for you both. Merry Christmas! ❤
Thank you so much for your love and prayers! It means a lot to us as we take on new challenges. We are so looking forward to coming back next spring. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas filled with joy! -Ryan
Hey there!! Welcome to our channel - it's great to have you come in to say hello... we are excited for our upcoming Season 3 which will launch very soon but in the meantime, we invite you to watch from the very beginning so you can get our adventure right from the start! Thank you for watching! 💚
Ohhh you're right about that! She loves life now - is doing so much better. Opal is a rescue from Mexico - she used to be scared of everything... even the floor she walked on. True story... she would inch along and be so scared, picking her feet up really high... now, she runs like the wind 🐕 the happiest doggy around!
(Cindi Rice) Ryan, you keep me on the edge of my seat with every video! Such a beautiful site when Melodi is there with you! You are so clever when it comes to problem solving. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Pepper certainly deserves a nice spa day and tune up! I've heard it said, the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys! 😂⚓🚜🛶💵💵💵🛠️⛓️📡🌠❄️🏔️🏞️🏂
Wow and brrrr! I had to put on my winter coat to just watch this video! Would love to come up and play hockey with you on that little pond but my ice skates melted! Really enjoyed watching this one but it put me into sort of a melancholy.
Oh no... so sorry to be a source of melancholy! Take heart in knowing that we are thinking of you and it is your humour that we so often look forward to. -Ryan
Who steals a chain!?🤦🏻♀️ Such a shame, people like that have nothing better to do. What a beauty the Island is with all the magical sparkling icy trees❄️🌲 Like a diamond tree forest💎🌲❄️
It’s looks so beautiful. I wish I could see it with my own eyes. If I would be you, I would move your house a little bit farther in away from the water . You never know what sometimes spring times overflowing can do and be .
It's just stunning. The old cabin site is quite high from the shore. In all the years their cabin was there the water never went near it so I think we might be okay. Thank you for watching!
Those views are amazing ! They would make gorgeous pictures enlarged & framed ! It’s looking better & better ! I am wondering if there’s a way to get tall steel beams to the island & put 2-3 in the ground with concrete like posts & weld one across the top behind the cabin so if a tree fell it would hit the steel beam frame & not the house ? Just an added safety feature ! amazing job editing it looks so professional 💕
You really need to produce a calendar with those pictures it would be great the series 1 land-rover you have should run with a bit of work alloy body on it garden ornament or island rover lol great footage brilliant content
Ya, that was a few kilometers away back at the boat ramp and not on the island, but still... it was unexpected and unfortunate. There are so few people up here... I just have to shake my head sometimes... Oh well, like everything else, we fix it, dust ourselves off and keep looking forward! Thank you for watching. -Ryan
We've been really fortunate thus far - the chain thing happened at the public boat launch and it's the only time we've ever had any problem at all. We actually have cameras and some amazing people at the end of the lake that are keeping an eye on it now. Very grateful for those guys! The people on the lake and area truly are wonderful!
Sure does... folks say it can get as thick as 4 feet! That is more than thick enough to drive a logging truck on. I can't wait until we are here over the winter when I can walk out with an ice auger and see how thick it actually gets. Thank you for watching! -Ryan
Wow, that's disheartening to have someone vandalize and steal your property. I'm really so sorry that happened. You can't trust your property isn't safe anywhere, anymore unless it's locked up/nailed down/GPS monitored/alarmed/CCTV policed//security guarded/vicious attack-dog STAY BACK alerts but who'd have thought they'd be coming for your chain in the middle of the wilderness?! Some people have no shame. My best to you Melodi & Ryan & Opal.🏝🐕👫💓
You guys need your own sawmill. The amount of beautiful trees you have cut down and the money you've spent on timber, huge! What happened to your gas cooker? Could have easily melted your water and cooked your meal. Coming to rely on modern conveniences is a big mistake.
(6:59)👑🚽👑A crowning achievement in the Little Wooden Outhouse of Bird Island - A toilet lid!😊💓No one likes to sit down on a black hole.⚫👀 I was going to ask you if you would be able to have a skating rink if you wanted one! How beautiful! What are you doing this afternoon? We're going skating in a picture-perfect, wilderness setting. Oh, where? Outside our front door!🎄🎄❄⛸🏝⛸❄🌲🌲
Very clever. "...crowning achievement", lol. I am hopeful we can stay out here next winter and do some skating and playing in the snow. Can you just imagine?? -Ryan
New sub here from Canada (B.C and Ontario) and I watch you vicariously as I miss my life on Vancouver Island❤ BUT I got an auto immune disease called CRPS and I need to stay in Ontario for treatment. Ryan has a very familiar voice….is he a voice over actor or Canadian actor? I mean I’ve heard this voice before 😂❤
Welcome to our channel! We love hearing from our subscribers. Ohhh yes, BC is just incredible! We hope your treatments are working well for you. Our thoughts are with you. Ryan has never done any narration of any sort before. This is the very first time either of us has ever done anything remotely similar to this path we are on (filming, editing, etc. ) We fully committed to documenting this journey though and we love it! It's a total dream. We thank you for watching! There is so much more to come 💚
Do you worry about the crushing effect of the ice on the barge. Might be a better plan to pull it right up on land. With some log rollers and a winch to could drag it just clear of the water. Yeah when winter comes in it comes in fast and hard. Getting stuck on the island would not be a good thing.
The draft of the barge is only 8 inches or so, the ice really has no effect on the hull. It seems to lift the barge somewhat as it freezes. We thought about building a ramp to haul it out, and we still might do that, but for now it seems to be okay.
@mywildholm well if you do get one you may want to make a nice smooth entrance from the lake onto your property in a spot. I am taking up that you can turn around
That would most definitely have to happen. I don't know if saw our 'short' where we went over to hear it start up - it'll be a bit much work to get it going though.
You just never know where they'll be... we have been very very fortunate this far. We have cameras on the land now and our storage is in the cloud so at least that's something. The trailer was parked at the main boat launch and not many people come out there because it's hard to get to, but somehow there always seems to be one in the crowd somewhere... kind of a sad world we live in.

What a beautiful, frosty wonderland you have!
Ohhh thank you! Isn't it just magical! I cannot wait to spend Christmas in our winter wonderland ❄️ Thank you for watching! 💚
Absolutely beautiful shots of the island. You’ve come a long way. Awesome ‼️
Thank you so much - more like 'holm' all the time 😉 we can't get over the views... every single day...

Another great show! The best channel on YT! These guys don't do things like anyone else out there but it's a great watch.
That's very kind of you to say and we really appreciate your support! More to come!
Having to get in and out probably helped keep you warmer 😂🤣
Yes indeed... there are no shortages of causes to keep moving around and that always keeps the blood flowing. Thank you for watching! -Ryan

No. I am constantly blown away by the beauty up here. We just love it! -Ryan

That is exactly what I said. Some people have not idea how hurtful their selfish actions can be. Thank you for your comments! -Ryan
Don’t forget to clean up your two lawn chairs those turquoise ones
We can't forget those for sure!
Great episode. Wishing g you both a very Merry Christmas from England ❤
It’s looks so beautiful. I wish I could see it with my own eyes.

Hi Melody and Ryan
How often are you putting a life one out to watch and an episode?
We try to do both an episode and a livestream every week. Sometimes more episodes if at all possible. 💚
Hmmm... I'll let Ryan answer that one. Yes... the views are just incredible! 💚
You really need to produce a calendar with those pictures it would be great the series 1 land-rover you have should run with a bit of work alloy body on it garden ornament or island rover lol great footage brilliant content
Brilliant! We will have to figure that out. We surely have enough picture perfect moments captured to populate a calendar. -Ryan
The ice on the trees are gorgeous. Do you plan to live there year round in the future?
Ohhh yes! That's the whole reason for getting our island! We realize that we have much to do but that really is our ultimate goal. 💚
Such a shame that even on your Island, things are getting stolen, like the chain. Nice job getting everything buttoned up 👍🙂
Ya, that was a few kilometers away back at the boat ramp and not on the island, but still... it was unexpected and unfortunate. There are so few people up here... I just have to shake my head sometimes... Oh well, like everything else, we fix it, dust ourselves off and keep looking forward! Thank you for watching. -Ryan
@@mywildholm Also good that you have surveillance cameras up now. Have a great week guys.
It's definitely a nice little way to keep track of what's happening at our beloved 'holm'... You have a great week too!! 💚
Next year, I wonder if you could wrap a heavy log chain around that tree stump and pull it out
Ohhh we've got surprises for you coming in the next season 💚
Winter, you all heading to Louisiana, Florida for the warmer weather???
Hey there! No, we are staying in BC. We are getting prepared to go back in the Spring and have lots to do - we can't wait! 😁
The snowmachine people will be around next. We used to leave the door unlocked so they wouldn't kick it in 😢
We've been really fortunate thus far - the chain thing happened at the public boat launch and it's the only time we've ever had any problem at all. We actually have cameras and some amazing people at the end of the lake that are keeping an eye on it now. Very grateful for those guys! The people on the lake and area truly are wonderful!
Beautiful views, does the ice on your lake get thick enough to safely cross it with a snow mobile? 👍🏻
Sure does... folks say it can get as thick as 4 feet! That is more than thick enough to drive a logging truck on. I can't wait until we are here over the winter when I can walk out with an ice auger and see how thick it actually gets. Thank you for watching! -Ryan

The trailer is on the mainland, yeah? Maybe get a game camera set up.
You guys need your own sawmill. The amount of beautiful trees you have cut down and the money you've spent on timber, huge! What happened to your gas cooker? Could have easily melted your water and cooked your meal. Coming to rely on modern conveniences is a big mistake.

@mywildholm That's good then. Glad that's not a worry.
It was a relief to have it do so well in the frozen lake over winter - thankfully it's a barge and not a larger bottomed boat.
I bet that's a CCCCOOOOLLLDDDD BOAT RIDE BBBBRŔ
It surrrre was... 😁 ❄️
It would be cool if that Range Rover had a new life, new rebuilt motor
Wouldn't that be so neat?! I'd love to see it all rejuvenated 🚗
Need a hover hovercraft
Don't I know it... we actually have been talking about getting one. They are hard to find. -Ryan
