I believe front and rear drain tubes are check on OPC service, however, even where checked it is possible for a blockage to occur at some point between services it is therefore prudent to open the pan roof carefully pour warm water in the drain holes either side at each front corner of the pan roof channel and watch for the exit of water at the back of each front wheel. The same test applies to the rear these however are not accessible you have to carefully direct the water toward the rear of the pan roof drain hole in each corner, raising the vehicle’s front end helps, maybe driving on to a brick under each front wheel, allowing the water to run backwards, I have a slopping drive so no problem, again watch for the exit of water and as with the front unblock tube(s) if necessary, the whole job takes minutes only! As for water entry in to both front foot wells, this is a fault Porsche should and must seriously consider implementing a service fix for! It happens MAINLY when parking the vehicle facing backwards on a slope/hill when it is raining, water running down the pan roof channels toward the rear drain tube holes backs up along the channel toward the front, I guess due to the drain holes/tubes being to smaller diameter. With a very light shower they cope, however any amount of heavy rain creates the problem as the water back up collecting in the front aperture of the pan roof, as the front drain holes are dealing with their own water they become overwhelmed allowing water to back up in to the pan roof cassette area flowing over the pan roof cassette down each A pillar soaking the footwell carpets. As a result the integrity of wiring connections on route of the water flow may be compromised causing all manner of electrical problems! I garage my vehicle, but if left on the drive, as mentioned early I’m on a slope, I make sure the vehicle faces downward. You would think it would happen parking this way too, bizarrely though it doesn’t, may be as mentioned it ‘s all to do with drain hole size? Parking on level ground under these conditions appears not to be a problem.
Thank you for a detailed response! Yes it's a service check here in the UK, don't think there is a recall for the drain pipes but they do fix it under warranty and multiple macans have been in the workshops at the same time for the same issues. A simple 30 second fix that solves most issues is just cutting the rubber tips off the drain tubes, the internal diameter of the drains then opens up and no longer block
I have a 1st GEN Macan that I got in Nov 2014 (I was within the first 7,000 owners in the US), and had been driving it in the NorthEast of the US (New England) for 10 years in Winters that had been really rough/cold and never seen this issue. I have heard about the sunroof drain issues, but mostly caused by blockage and solved by inserting a wire through the drain and declogging it. There might be issues where the clog causes water to freeze and disconnect connections or break lines as it expands in the winter. But nothing caused by the windshield washer system. If you use the right fluid, you won’t have issues. Now, there may be cases of extreme cold where the tip of the nozzle may freeze. In those cases, you need to make sure that your Macan comes with a heated nozzle. Mine is heated, and normally all Macan sold in colder climates have heated nozzles.
Dude, are you really using WATER in your washer fluid tank? No wonder you're having problems! They make washer fluid that doesn't freeze in winter. Problem solved!
They recommended we have the drains cleaned on our last major service. It wasn't cheap either. I thought it was odd but seeing this explains why they're doing it.
Yep, it's a serviceable item from porsche so cleared in annual service, just no one is ever told about it on collection that they should clear then out every so often
Have you tried to clear it out from the top, not simple. Easier to cut the ends off the drain hoses. There are a few other bigger issues with the Macan than this; transfer case, timing chain covers, rear coolant cross-over pipes, etc.
This sounds like a washer fluid issue.....not a design issue. Most washer fluid that you can buy at your local auto parts store won't freeze until the temp outside is lower than -40 degrees Fahrenheit. I have a Macan Turbo for the last three years in the NE part of the US. and never had an issue. I frequently go skiing in NY and Vermont where is gets pretty damn cold. Last year experienced -17 degrees F in February and no clogged lines. Seems like user error to me.
So water backing up due to a blocked drain hole because it was made too small and overflowing into the battery well and fuse box is a washer fluid issue? Congratulations on the US making a good sub zero washer fluid, at best here in the UK they said they operate to -10c but they still freeze.. the faulty valve that breaks inside the car is a known fault issue here in the UK as proven by porsche techs sending me video evidence 🤷🏻♂️
I live in the north east usa. Never had a problem with mine. And ive had my macan turbo now for 9 years. Drain tube cleaning is part of scheduled maintenance. Keep up with maintenance. My macan has had NO issues. Ever
I've had my eyes on a Porsche Macan for quite some time now , but your video made me change my mind. Thanks for sharing the insights, saving me from dealing with all these damm issues
I've had several Porsches for the last 10 years and couldn't fault the reliability compared with other cars I've owned. They also make you feel good while driving them, a lot of cars don't have this effect. My only criticism of the brand is the arrogance of the UK dealers I've dealt with!
We have a second MACAN S (first a 2019, that my son has now, and a 2022 ) These have been the BEST vehicles we have ever owned. We will be ordering a 2025 as long as they offer an ICE and not an EV. (If there is no 2025 ICE model we will keep the 2022 "forever")
We didnt. we thought the line had still froze but I got sent a video from a porsche tech of the cause and its a common valve in the water line that breaks and leaks
I've had 2 Macan GTS's and neither of mine have had the issues you call "bad design." Not my 2017 or 2021. Your ECU is that silver box to the right of the engine. There's 4 fuse panel locations in that vehicle. They are not where you say they are, and there's no way for the windshield washers to drain through the foot-well. Because of the firewall. The reservoir is behind that front wheel well, in front of the front door hinges, and it drains out right below where the rocker panel meets the tank. Ughh. The panoramic roof isn't known to have any "common" leaking problems. All that's been said about them is that sometimes they squeak. I think maybe you have been woefully misinformed, and now you're spreading misinformation about the vehicle, whilst simultaneously discrediting yourself. There's this informative book that has all the pertinent information about the very vehicle you're confused about. It's called the "Owners Manual." There's even a bunch of quick reference videos about the various vehicle functions right on your PCM screen. As well as the Porsche "Good to know" app that's another good place to find FACTUAL INFO. Have you refilled the blinker fluid lately? 😂
@@9fiveb180 lol ok matey. just because you have not had any issues doesn't mean there isn't a design floor. yes since making the video I have been informed by good Porsche techs where the washer valve is exactly and breaks and have had multiple Porsche techs and salesman have even said there is a problem with it with footage sent to me. If having 3 Macans in at the same dealership for the same issue doesnt say fault then I dont know what does. have a good weekend
Well said Lukuss don’t know why people get so snobby and spew things in such a stupid way. Ok even if you’re right at least be polite about it, it goes a long way
6:38 thanks for confirming where the battery is in the Macan. I have an Audi and it's in the trunk, I am considering a Macan and so far, most I have found out is pretty inline with VAG models.
Hm the first problem is user error if they literally used water but I believe that he doesn't literally mean he fills his washer fluid reservoir from his home tap. The thing is nozzles CAN still freeze over even if you use window washer fluid rated to below freezing temperatures. Then when you try to spray the windshield washer fluid with de-icer in it nothing comes out. The thing is, when that happens, it shouldn't decouple the washer fluid lines... either Porsche is going way overboard with a super-power pump for the fluid or the coupling between the washer fluid lines and and other components is way too weak. The drain thing is also pretty annoying/stupid. Even the basic economy car manufacturers have figured that out a long time ago.
Yes exactly this! I use washer fluid with anti icing properties down to -15c in all my cars if people want to get super specific about it but the nozzle will always freeze like you said. A week ago I got sent a video from a porsche specialist cutting the ends off the drain holes for the pano roof, it looks like a pin hole in the end of the pipe and as they cut it off very dirty water comes gushing through
@@Lukuss is that a problem that can be remedied? I.E. replacing the drainage hose/tubing with something that has a larger inner diameter? Or is the issue that whatever drain inlet hard point has too small of an opening?
@@AoDAzrael from what I've seen it's the outlets of the rubber drain hoses have too small of a hole, cut the tub back a little and it opens right up and drains out
Ive OWNED 2 of them for 8 since the first 2015 Macan S and now a 2021 GTS. The roof drain one is common if the car is under continuous rain. Ive fixed that issue. You have to simply go in there and cut the super small tip to make it bigger.
great video also alot of the suv types have this problem i found a fix : i used heavy duty car vinyal on the roof to cover up the sunroof its a trade off of not useing it vs paying thousands in parts to replace the electronics box its not only Porsche i seen it on the toyatas, hondas, audis, kias and a few others the drain holes leak into the fuse boxes or computers like clock work
Today I'm picking up my 2020 Macan Turbo from my dealership after having the EXACT same issues: first, lost my parking sensors and reverse camera (which led to a collision with another vehicle); then lost the start/stop feature, and the rear windshield defrost (which is a safety feature). I realized how serious this was getting when I finally lost my turn signals. Then, the problem became how to book a repair in the overcrowded Porsche dealerships schedules. The worst part is that ALL of this could be avoided if the dealership would have done its job which was to make sure these water drains were nice and clean. During this time, I decided to trade my Macan for a BMW which, by previous experiences, is a much more reliable car. I'm sad about it because I'm a huge Porsche fan since childhood, but the reality is that I do not trust the car, and (for other issues) the make anymore. Too high of a pricetag for too many oversights.
I call BS. I'm on the Macan forums all the time and I've never heard anyone complain of this, nor have I ever had this problem with my Macan. The drains for the roof have nothing to do with the windsheild wiper fluid lines. Every car can get water inside the vehicle from a clogged sunroof drain but I've neaver heard of water freezing in a sunroof drains because the water runs out quickly. Sunroof drains can get clogged with dirt but it's easy to clear them.
Which forums, UK or American, because I have linked the issues down below and it is common... Also you must not have watched the video properly as I didn't say the sunroof drains are linked to the washer lines or water freezing in the sunroof drains. I said it gets clogged with dirt.... it is an easy fix to clear but 99% of people don't know about them so why would they be looking to clean them
Not BS. I've fixed the issue its a design flaw. Have owned 2. The drain is too small to let water out quick enough. If it rains continuously it's over. A terrible design flaw. People are too big of fanboys of these brands thinking they're perfect.
When I was researching the Panamera, I went onto the forums and came across owners with Pano roof issues. It was mainly rattles and squeaks, and many owners advised against getting the Pano roof. There wasn't anything I can recall about water. The Panny at least has the battery in the front, under the bonnet, where it should be. The comments about the Pano roof were enough for me to pick one that had no pano roof. There was no way I wanted the hassle in case it gave issues. I wondered why the pano roof cars were not more expensive on the used market. I think in northern Europe, where it is just constantly raining and damp in the winter, it is probably best to avoid them. Just make sure you spec a light interior, as a black leather interior with no pan roof can be very gloomy.
So, this is only a problem for Porsche Macans with a panoramic roof and in countries with winter conditions, right? Are there any other issues with the car?
Thanks for the video. Guess I am lucky, I owned two Macans (S and GTS) over 6 years in Australia. Never had an issue and have not heard anyone with the types of problems you describe. Sounds like your mate bought a lemon...
It seams alot of it is dependent on where you live, yourself and alot of people from the US (warmer countries) havnt experienced freezing lines etc which is half of the problem. UK owners however, have
You mention the Forums have acknowledged this (if I understood correctly) > do you have a link to where there's discussion with others who have experienced the same? Speaking for Cayennes (assume the same or similar on Macans) > water drainage in the front driver & or passenger side floorboard is typically a very easy/cheap address... there are plugs that must be cleaned out every so often... depending on environment of course...if you don't garage or park outside consistently, etc. That said, have to assume Porsche would have looked at this right out the gate on Your car. The biggest problem I've heard abt on the Macans (& it's no doubt a significant issue) is the engine bolts...too short & aluminum > some are breaking off....not good & if not caught early is quite a pricey fix > evidently Porsche is well aware yet no Recall to date > waiting for as many Warrantys to expire is what it sounds like. In general, Cayennes are a safer bet... especially as they begin to rack up the miles > better builds overall....ya get what ya pay for as they say.
Thanks for your insight on Cayennes. I have not heard anything personally about them and have not heard anything about engine bolts so thats a new one to me! Check out Macanforum.co.uk There is plenty on there Shouldn't have to clean out drains etc and shouldn't need to be looked at, definitely an oversite in the design department
@Vito Genovese There is already a drain bung in the bottom underneath the battery already. kind of worrying really if Porsche have already thought of that possibility and added it in lol
Older Cayennes and Ma cans have drainage issues. In fact most Euro cars have drain issues, just search YT. Sunrooms are the worst desingn. It is almost like you need to install bilge pumps all over the vehicle as a backup for when the drain holes plug. The washer piping is a nightmare, All the manufacturers manufacturers know about this. They still insist on designing them this way , why? It is because it makes them money. Just like plastic engine parts, guaranteed replacement at some point during ownership first or secondary owners.
@@Lukuss I had huge water ingress issues with my first 2003 Cayenne S ( just under 60k new and which was practically worthless when I sold it due to the well known engine failure, I had 4.5k for it around 2010) and I took another big hit on a 2011 Cayenne Turbo that I had - same issues you talk about in the video. I had to get rid of it in the end, the electrics were shot, the bills could have gone on forever. On a side not I remember my cousins 2.5 Boxster’s cabin flooding due to drainage holes blocking just after it was out of warranty 😢… it cost him about 3k to sort out over 20 odd years ago - when fixed, he sold it straight away. Unlike me he’s never gone back to Porsche… I’ve had five Cayennes, water ingress issues with three - so seems to be an issue… maybe I didn’t keep the other two long enough?😂 GOOD LUCK MATE, I REALLY HOPE YOU GET THIS SORTED BY PORSCHE
Sounds like my old VW Tiguan. Same type roof, panoramic, was leaking inside, not draining out those tubes.. That really upsets me. I liked the Macan but no way I want a leaking car. That windshield wash tubing issue leaking into the floor board makes it even worse. Thank you so much for sharing this info... Don't know how they can charge so much for a car with these kinds of problems.
@@Lukuss Please share. I have my eyes on new Macan (but I will not be getting it till December), so I'd love to know whether the issue persists. Your review is so helpful! Thanks you!
@@looovegoodmusic last time I was told its still a possible issue, just need to keep checking the drain tubes are clear behind the rear wheels and it should be fine
For those mocking German engineering, I had a Merc 400SL for years, and it never had one single issue with leaks, and that car was a full-blown hard-top convertible. In the worst-case scenario, you'd have to use some Gummi Pflege to use on the runner seals to make sure they stayed protected. That was it. And I live in a place where it rains constantly.
This does not make sense. First, washer fluid is made of alcohol so it does not freeze. The fluid lines were not damaged by frozen fluid. The only way freezing water expanding to break the line would happen is if some ding dong put actual water in the reservoir. Second, a FULL fluid reservoir does not hold enough ounces to dump 6” of water in the boot! And who drives their car around with that much water sloshing around and doesn’t notice until it’s “SO much water and rising” as he described, and as deep as we saw?? If there is some other issue that I’d letting rain water in, then there could be water that deep. However, that’s A LOT of water to be leaking in. I can’t help but think if there was a hole in a seal somewhere that would allow that, then wouldn’t you also hear a wind noise while driving because the car seals were not fully sealed at the openings?? Again, rain water leaks are SO SO SO rare in ALL cars across the board. How often do you EVER hear that?? Never. Third, I own a Macan. 5 of my neighbors own Macans. I know several other people who have owned Macans and NO ONE has had this issue. Fourth, I feel like if this were a design flaw, or a “big issue that Porsche is aware of” as he said, I think there would be SO many UA-cam reviews that talk a bout it and the Macan would not be the most sold Porsche in the world that literally saved Porsche financially. Sixth, his car is SO filthy-dirty. It makes me wonder how he treats it. It looks like he may not take all that great a care of it. He may even beat it up a bit, or he bought a used one and someone else beat it up, or he’s super unlucky and it’s a lemon 🍋🤷🏻♀️ I wonder if he’s done something that caused the leaking issues. If he was careless and put straight water in the washer fluid reservoir, then he caused the problem himself. And now he’s going to make a bad review on UA-cam to get money out of Porsche to fix it, because an owner putting water in a fluid reservoir would not be covered by warranty-it would be “negligent damage” by the owner, so I feel like he’s trying to get Porsche to pay for it. I get such a bad vibe listening to this guy give his review. I feel like this review REEKS of BS. If you want a Macan, buy a Macan. They are great cars!! SO much fun to drive 😊
It's not only Porsches other brands with these roofs wear faster than the standard roof. My uncle 2003 Land Cruiser Prado has this issue and it's just a small moon roof
I wish this video posted two years not one year ago. I’m another victim from the leaking sunroof. Bought my car 1.5 years ago. Now i have to pay 2k for the leaking even it is still under warranty, which is useless in Canada Vancouver. All maintenance done in Porsche centre.
Strange, so many of my community don't have this issues with their newer Macan? Germany is a cloudy area. Did Porsche change something? Is this an issue of service? What's wrong with this? I just ordered the 2023/2024-model.
Apparently is a common issue for the drains to block for the panoramic roof, not just porsche but alot of brands. I think their could be some issues even with new ones from what a tech told me. I think if you're aware of it you'd be fine
I had a 2005 Cayenne and I had the same issue with the sunroof drain pipes The simple solution is don’t park it under a tree or just keep it in your garage. Don’t get it wet
OMFG! There I thought of getting one and turns out the water issue is still present in VW. I had an Audi Q5 that had this very annoying and expensive problem. The water from the windshield was designed to drain down a passage where the fuse AND CPU box are located. Very idiotic design. Lucky enough to find a used CPU and had audi program it.
I have been taking my 2020 Macan (with panoramic roof) to the mountains for skiing for 3 years now, absolutely no problems. I also read Macan forums frequently- don’t recall anyone posted anything about it.
Even if I live in Hawaii I wouldn’t fill my washer fluid reservoir with water 💦 . You get a much cleaner window and faster using the correct fluid and it won’t freeze. I drive in subzero temperatures every winter and have had zero issues.
Nice Video. Most cars with a sunroof will have these problems. My wife's Toyota SUV Highlander has the same issues. Water would come, overflow over the sunroof barrier and into the inside cabin. But I have had mine Macan since 2019, I haven't had these issues yet. But if I do, then I would install a drain tube, one on each side of the rear. And as for the plastic T connector, if I can find it then swap it over to a metal zinc or stainless?
This is meant to be informative, not judgmental. I am planning to order a 2024 S. I now drive a 2021 Subaru Outback XT Turbo with sunroof and never had any leaking issues driving in heavy rain and very cold temperatures. Point being it seems that Porsche needs a redesign here. I don't know if that have now fixed it for the 2024 model? BTW I've owned three Subaru's with no problems.
I have something I’d like you to test. Close one air vent turn your heat up to 80 degrees with fan at max, see if you get aloud honing noise. I have my drivers side vent closed. 9:23
Great information sir. M planning to buy used macan s here in NZ. Can you please tell me what all major Things i should be seeing before buying one. Thanks 🙏🏻
mechanically theyre sound, just if it has a pano roof keep an eye on the roof drains tucked behind the rear wheel arches and make sure theyre not blocked
Mine is leaking at the pano roof cassette attaching to the roof. Ridiculous. Going to have to drop the headliner and I suppose lower the Pano roof and reseal. Drains are totally clear. Battery compartment is full of water
Hi - i have same problems and had water ingress twice in 7 months, and right after it was due in for service. Car is late 2019 i am now deeply concerned about the future of the car. I can see winter time now car has condensation and never seems to clear, the rear mirror on driver side doesn't open, the washer fluid doesn't come out. I am told by Porche they will fix it under the warranty, but i doubt this is enough for me to convince me to keep it. What are the rules to reject the car with Porche? Can anyone advise? Lukuss are you still with same car or have you got rid of it?
Hi, we no longer have this 2019 macan turbo but have just collected a 2023 macan GTS with pano roof, we will inspect the drains and cut off the ends to prevent any further blockages now we know how to avoid it. saying that, since we had the warranty work on the 2019 macan we had no further issues. im not sure on where you would stand with rejecting the car but all depends how long you have had the car and whether youre still within your rights to do so
Hello. Do you know whether or not a new destination can be typed into the navigation system while driving? I have a 2023 Macan S and I keep getting a message telling me and my passenger that this is not possible while the car is driving. Is this normal? Is there a way around this since a distracted passenger is of no consequence?
@@mummar4245 Panoramic roof has the drains which block which cause the rear battery well and fuse box to flood. The rear washer valve splitting would be on any macan so you wouldn't get some problems but may still get others... again this is a 100% certainty that you would have any issues
Megan's have so many engine oil leaks that they incorporate a absorb ant diaper on the lower engine splash shield. Why not design it not to leak, because it makes them money.
I quit watching when the first “problem” was frozen water in the windshield washer system. Not going to watch a video from someone who can’t figure out to put winter washer fluid in the vehicle.
when i said water i meant washer fluid. slip of the tongue... but read below. we since found out it was a split pipe but a split valve thats a common issue that many have had
It had screen wash, I say water out of habit. Some of the faults come from the blocked roof drains backing up and sending water to the rear battery well. The others come from a split valve somewhere in the car which leaks water into the carpet
50/50.. so.. the water leak from the valve breaking is on all macans as they all use the same piping and valves. The blocked water drain which causes the battery well to fill with water is from the panoramic roof only so I've been told. We were just unlucky and had both issues I guess
@@Lukuss Low quality cheaper for manufacturer and expensive to repair or replace , why would you want all that glass above your head , sometimes the glass explodes like on c lass mercedes , I am old school .
As I've said and so have others, just the way I talk so I didn't mean I have filled it with water but I can see the confusion. But that was only half the issue. The other half was the pano roof drains blocking and was never told about them from the dealership. They blocked which caused the boot electrics to flood
Most of this sounds like the result of poor maintenance. 1) Never put water in your washer fluid reservoir and (2) check your battery well every few months or more regularly if the weather has been particularly wet. Regarding the gear box disengaging: Any newer Macan with PDK and automatic engine Stop/Start will coast if (1) Stop/Start is turned on and (2) you gently release the throttle. If you don’t want the car to coast, turn off Stop/Start.
Ahhh yes I forgot the dealer mentioned you have to check your battery well regularly for water build up... not poor maintenance, it's a poor design issue, simple. As for the coasting we found out it was a feature on this car after the repairs. We never got told about it on collection. BUT it was still a fault because like 90% of people we always turn stop start off which turns off the coast mode. When faults starting appearing it dropped out of gear even with stop-start deactivated. That's how we found out
I would have to disagree on this a battery compartment shouldn't fill with water and a customer shouldn't have to check for this every month or so its obviously a design flaw with blockages
Agree. It’s a design issue; but if it is a known potential problem then one can avoid significant damage by checking it. I only check the battery compartment along with all the fluids and tires, etc before a long trip. I drove my last one 160,000 miles without a single unscheduled maintenance issue. My 2020 Macan S has 30,000 miles and other than two flat tyres has only had regular maintenance.
You make a good point. One should not need to check the interior of the car for water; but to be fair, the break in the washer fluid line resulted from using water instead of washer fluid. (Improper maintenance)
@@Lukuss I am following Macan discussion forums and can’t find corroborating info that this is a “known common issue”. Met quite of few Macan owners through the local PCA club and no one reports of similar issues. I would be all ears if this car had “known common” issues but so far I know of none.
This is issue is across the vag group heads been happening for a decade now. This is not isolate to the macan. How on earth does a problem not get resolved and passed onto different cars 🤯
FFS, this is making me sick watching this - I have the same ingress. I have had the drain pipes unclogged and the issue is still going on. The rear water washer is not working - is the problem to do with this and is that an easy fix? I am outside of 3 year warranty...
find the end of the drain pipes and cut then back a bit, the pipe opens up and then shouldnt get blocked any more. rear washer could be the same other issue we had. if you can hear the pump running and front washers still work but rear wiper works but not the washer then check the passenger carpet for any damp spots. may have a split line. if thats all good then could just be the motor has failed etc
Hey genius. Porsche sells washer fluid that is antifreeze for the washer fluid refill. Do you top your radiator with water too?...good grief. I have a 2017 GTS and it is and has been a great vehicle. Make smart decisions to maintain your vehicle and you can avoid dumb issues like this one. keep the car clean and if you park outdoors, take care to clean the roof. simple.
hey bud, read comments below. i mentioned i didnt mean literally water and the valve is a common issue aswell as the drains blocking up. see the many comments from others that have had similar or the same issues with theirs and search the forums. What is this guy even talking about?! If there’s a leak in the fluid line, perhaps the tubing was defective or not connected properly when assembled, but freezing fluid would not be the cause-windshield wiper fluid is made of alcohol precisely so that it DOES NOT freeze! This is BS if you ask me. If this were a prevalent problem, there would be ENDLESS reviews on UA-cam talking about it.
oh boy, another person who didnt watch properly.... firstly, water freezing in pipes CAN split pipes and fittings.. but I have since said in the comments that I was sent a video front a Porsche tech of the common issue and its a 1 way valve that fails and its located on the left side rear wheel arch under the carpet somewhere. I dont see how a car being abit dirty from daily using (as its intended, its not a weekend supercar) means I "beat it up" lol. I know you didnt watch the video properly because the washer line and water in the boot are 2 separate issues which I said. water in the boot comes from the blocked drain line from the panoramic roof. water backs up the pipe finding the easiest way out and ends up in the battery well. we only found it from ANOTHER MACAN OWNER suggesting we check the battery well as thats what he had previously and he was correct. This is definitely a design issue as its a service check on a porsche service... and most garages cut the end of the drain pipe off allowing greater water flow.
I'm driving 2022 macan... Haven't had this problem yet😅... But I noticed another one. Sometimes wipers judder... The car has only 5000km on the clock... And one year old... So it shouldn't happen... Does anyone else have this issue? It seams to me like the wipers motor is a little underpowered...
Juddering wipers could be the result of cleaning the windows with a certain chemical. Try cleaning the windows with a clay bar to remove anything. Failing that. Put some WD40 on a microfiber and clean the wiper blades with it. That has worked for me before, doesn't last forever but will improve things
Thanks for the advice, I've already thoroughly cleaned the windshield with isopropyl alcohol-based glass cleaner, but I'll also try clay, even though the windshield looks crystal clear, so if that doesn't help, I'll try silicone wiper spray👍. I see that this is common problem on macan, may by even the design fault of the blades.
Ok
It's a common f*cked up VW/Audi/Porsche design. Happens on all of them.
Ore you can connect a syringe and vacuumed the drain.
@@feloniousmonk3049my Panamera S agrees. But the drains for Panarama are easy to clear
Well, they definitely shouldn't have charged you for it as its now part of the service from what I've been told?!
As part of regular service those drains are supposed to be cleared out, its really that simple.
Most owners just don't know this.
Yep, it's a serviceable item from porsche so cleared in annual service, just no one is ever told about it on collection that they should clear then out every so often
That’s still a pretty goofy design
Nah it is a design issue. I have had 2 they have these problems specially the roof drain issue
I wouldn't be completely put off by one, they're an amazing all round car and if you know what to look for these issues are easily avoidedable
I've had several Porsches for the last 10 years and couldn't fault the reliability compared with other cars I've owned. They also make you feel good while driving them, a lot of cars don't have this effect. My only criticism of the brand is the arrogance of the UK dealers I've dealt with!
@@willboswell The arrogance is not limited to the UK
We have a second MACAN S (first a 2019, that my son has now, and a 2022 ) These have been the BEST vehicles we have ever owned.
We will be ordering a 2025 as long as they offer an ICE and not an EV. (If there is no 2025 ICE model we will keep the 2022 "forever")
No doubt they are brilliant all round cars!
Echo this and I have had 2 Macans
The new EV Macan is better than the ICE version in every way.
Me too!!!!!
Who the F.. uses water in the washer fluid tank, specially in winter time?! 🤦♂️
We didnt. we thought the line had still froze but I got sent a video from a porsche tech of the cause and its a common valve in the water line that breaks and leaks
I know right? Winter washer fluid is at every petrol station all winter long. Lol
It's called the "Owners Manual."
There's even a bunch of quick reference videos about the various vehicle functions right on your PCM screen.

@@AoDAzrael from what I've seen it's the outlets of the rubber drain hoses have too small of a hole, cut the tub back a little and it opens right up and drains out
Yes. These issues are not new and there should have been a definitive fix years ago.
Ive driven macans for 5 years now. Ive never experienced or even heard of any of these things happening.
Not a bad thing really is it
Ive OWNED 2 of them for 8 since the first 2015 Macan S and now a 2021 GTS. The roof drain one is common if the car is under continuous rain. Ive fixed that issue. You have to simply go in there and cut the super small tip to make it bigger.

I live in Sunny ((rainy) Florida
great video
also alot of the suv types have this problem
i found a fix : i used heavy duty car vinyal on the roof to cover up the sunroof
its a trade off of not useing it vs paying thousands in parts to replace the electronics box
its not only Porsche i seen it on the toyatas, hondas, audis, kias and a few others
the drain holes leak into the fuse boxes or computers like clock work
Damn wouldn't think so many brands would have issues
Just cut open the bottom of the drain pipe and make the hole bigger
@@dlxfilms Do you have an example of this being done?
thanks for your sharing, i am glad I did not choice sunroof.
its a nice option but can cause problems if not looked after correctly (if youve been told about it)
Today I'm picking up my 2020 Macan Turbo from my dealership after having the EXACT same issues: first, lost my parking sensors and reverse camera (which led to a collision with another vehicle); then lost the start/stop feature, and the rear windshield defrost (which is a safety feature).
It’s not BS my Macan is like a swimming pool there’s so much water in the rear footwells and boot
Had similar issue with my 2020 GTS Macan. Sold it few months later as you said couldn't trust it even after everything was sorted
Such a great car let down by the most simple issues...
Excellent video, thanks for posting. water in boot was scarey ,very concerning, hope you get it fixed !
Felt like it had to be posted! Wouldn't expect that from a top tier brand tbh. Its fixed, just being dried out now 😅

@@davidnjuguna9477 nope, absolutely blinder of a car
Check out Macanforum.co.uk There is plenty on there
Shouldn't have to clean out drains etc and shouldn't need to be looked at, definitely an oversite in the design department
On a side not I remember my cousins 2.5 Boxster’s cabin flooding due to drainage holes blocking just after it was out of warranty 😢… it cost him about 3k to sort out over 20 odd years ago - when fixed, he sold it straight away. im glad people are finding the video useful!
Very disappointed to see that Macan is having this kind of problem. I was planning to buy this car but now Im concerned
By all means the car is a great all rounder! And I'm sure these issues aren't as wide spread as it seams. I just wanted to Highgate the possibilities
This is a lack of proper maintenance problem not a design problem.
It's not only Porsches other brands with these roofs wear faster than the standard roof. My uncle 2003 Land Cruiser Prado has this issue and it's just a small moon roof
yes this is what has been mentioned below, VW I think
I wish this video posted two years not one year ago. I’m another victim from the leaking sunroof. Bought my car 1.5 years ago. Now i have to pay 2k for the leaking even it is still under warranty, which is useless in Canada Vancouver. All maintenance done in Porsche centre.
Oh that's bad luck....
Why is it not covered by warranty in Canada?
Strange, so many of my community don't have this issues with their newer Macan? Germany is a cloudy area. Did Porsche change something? Is this an issue of service? What's wrong with this? I just ordered the 2023/2024-model.
Apparently is a common issue for the drains to block for the panoramic roof, not just porsche but alot of brands. I think their could be some issues even with new ones from what a tech told me. I think if you're aware of it you'd be fine
This is something NHRSA in United States will definitely put a red flag on. Did they resolve it in the next generation they are selling these days?

Use a winter screen wash that doesn’t freeze….
It had screen wash, I say water out of habit. Some of the faults come from the blocked roof drains backing up and sending water to the rear battery well.
The others come from a split valve somewhere in the car which leaks water into the carpet
I really don't know why they complain, they get a car and a pool😂
Is it on models with sunroof, or all Macans?
50/50.. so.. the water leak from the valve breaking is on all macans as they all use the same piping and valves. The blocked water drain which causes the battery well to fill with water is from the panoramic roof only so I've been told. We were just unlucky and had both issues I guess

Idk about the older models but the 2023 only has a pano roof that retracts.
Get an M car with a carbon fiber roof. Problem solved. Never once missed my sunroof
@@IamThePoo when the time comes I definitely will
Put some antigel or alcohol in the water during the winter
You are not supposed to put water in there mate, the whole issue won't exist if freeze resistant Windshield washer fluid is used as it should be.
As I've said and so have others, just the way I talk so I didn't mean I have filled it with water but I can see the confusion. But that was only half the issue. The other half was the pano roof drains blocking and was never told about them from the dealership. They blocked which caused the boot electrics to flood
@@Lukuss I see, btw pretty quick reply!
Wow your Macan sure has lots of problems with wa’uh!
It did yes but all fixed now! Got to love the Essex accent 😅
Dont fill the washer fluid problem solved
I guess ill just have to get out and wipe the screen after every splat lol
Video starts with Launch control..... This pleases GAD Tuning
Who doesn't love a launch control!
Ive owned 2 and fixed the drain issue. its DEFINITELY a design flaw.
Many a Range Rover have been mechanically totaled due to the same problem.
I miss those good old cars,These day's it's like a cow milking the owners of their money.
2023 model have this problem solved or it is the same?
Too early to tell yet but someone on the forums picked up their 90k 2022 macan and was back in the workshop in a few weeks when winter hit end of 2022
The problems described in this video seem to be the result of poor maintenance.
Don't blame your lack of proper maintenance on Porsche.
Oh cmon i thought Ed Sheeran could at least afford a Cayenne GT Coupé?
I have never had this issue and I drive in the rain a lot
Not everyone gets the issue 😅
I was in the dealership today to buy the 2023 GTS does anyone know if it still has these problems since the car in the video is last years model.
Someone picked their 2022 (new shape) up end of the year and was back in the dealership in a few weeks with the same issues
Complete waste of time NOT A HUGE PROBLEM. creates HIS OWN PROBLEMS THEN SPECULATES OF DREAMED UP POSSIBLE OTHER PROBLEMS THAT MAY RESULT OF THIS.
Jesus chill mate
The problem is easy to solve...don't live where it gets below freezing
There are no problems, just solutions 👌🏻🤣
I would like to get a 2021 macan but I keep hearing problems.
And then you found this video 😅😬
I do have 2020 Macan without any problems and use it frequently in harsh winter conditions
@@olasek7972 that's good news, I'm not by any means saying if you get a macan it will 100% have this problems. It's just a known common issue
@@olasek7972 that’s good to hear but a 2020 especially at that price should not be giving problems and I’m worried about long term.
@@Lukuss I am following Macan discussion forums and can’t find corroborating info that this is a “known common issue”. Met quite of few Macan owners through the local PCA club and no one reports of similar issues. I would be all ears if this car had “known common” issues but so far I know of none.
Someones been driving on some salty roads
Winter spec
Have Porsche addressed these water problems...?
I dont think so
Anti freeze washer fluid?
It has it in, picked it up from Porsche only a couple months beforehand in the summer so tank was still full
This is issue is across the vag group heads been happening for a decade now. This is not isolate to the macan. How on earth does a problem not get resolved and passed onto different cars 🤯
Apparently this guy doesn’t live in Canada.
I think you need to clean your car more often lol never had an issue with mine GTS
So you can only drive it if its not raining out.
Haha no it's not that bad. Depends if the drains are blocked or not, or if the washer valve splits
so don't get one with a sunroof - waste of money for a hole in the roof anyway
Whatever your problem is, it might come from the way you keep your vehicle so trashy !
Who hurt you?..
Please elaborate on what you class as trashy?
Putting me off buying one now, might stick to Audi.
I'd give one a go! You just know what to look for now to avoid alot of potential issues
Love these ❤
Amazing car, just a shame about the water feature
Just clean the drain pipes out.
please tell me how and if you clean yours then?
These are first world problems.
Absolutely but a problem nonetheless
Also... the car is on british roads in winter.. its impossible to keep clean with all the crap on the roads
solution move to florida its hot as hell here
That would be nice...
@@Lukuss haha
This is a complete waste of time video. WHY ! Not say we’re the water is coming from . This would be a great help
I did say roughly as I didn't know exactly. Not hard to figure out from there... clearly didn't watch the video properly
so much for German quality lol!
quality it great, just sometimes something goes a little wrong
all problems comes from EU
How comes?
@@Lukuss a lot of parts now is from plastic and not from iron or aluminium because of EU instructions. Also this is the last year for Porsche macan models in EU. Porsche stop sales in EU Countries from 2025 because EU demand from them to change something in the machine, and Porsche decide tthat will be more profitable for them to stop sales in EU than to procceed to that changes. Google it, this is known from the start of 2024
Porsche will remove the combustion-powered Macan from sale in the EU in spring 2024, as it won't meet new cybersecurity rules, but it will remain available in the UK
Load of badly designed garbage! Steer well clear...
"Macan owners must watch! TOTAL DISASTER! I'm AN IDIOT LOOKING FOR VIEWS"
"IDIOT GIVES IDIOT MORE VIEWS" cheers mate :D
@@Lukuss No worries. We are laughing in the Porsche chatrooms.
I put a deposit on a turbo and now i am thinking i made a mistake.
No mistake, you'll love it. Just keep an eye out for the drains and keep them clear and you should be fine
I have similar issue with windshield washer fluid not spraying out of my Macan GTS, goes in the shop in April to be fixed and a new paint job.
ua-cam.com/video/T0m_add38MI/v-deo.html
can you hear the washer motor still working and fluid levels going down?
@@Lukuss yep, exactly.
German cars are really money pits! Look great but will need continuous repairs.
Any car is a money pit really 🤣
@@Lukuss No. Toyota and Honda aren't. Im just selling my Macan to get a Lexus now lol it is sad but true. Lexus i owned previously was bulletproof
@@LukussI trates a bmw 3 series for a Kia k5 and a Hyundai Elantra, both of those needed a new engine in less than a year, the Elantra still has the factory inspection (5years) and It busted a radiator hose, ac compressor stopped working and can’t even do alignment the tie rods are rusted
What is this guy even talking about?! If there’s a leak in the fluid line, perhaps the tubing was defective or not connected properly when assembled, but freezing fluid would not be the cause-windshield wiper fluid is made of alcohol precisely so that it DOES NOT freeze! I, and 5 of my neighbors own Macans. This is not problem with this car. I don’t know what the heck he puts his car through, but his car is filthy….perhaps he beats it up and that’s why he has all the problems. Or he’s got a lemon 🍋🤷🏻♀️ Also, who the hell drives around with 6 inches of fluid in the boot?!? a washer fluid reservoir would not even hold enough water to cause 6 inches to collect in the boot !
