As a puppet designer myself, I can say that Adam is one of the finest builder/designers I have ever seen. And the fact that he shares this information is amazing. Thank you Adam. Can't wait to see part 2.
It's like a master class of puppet building with these great techniques! Thank you for your generous knowledge on this subject and letting others to easily create and enjoy their own works of art!
I love puppetry, I also love crochet, paper mache, etc. I used to do a craft market with my mother and I crocheted a lot of stuff. We split up going in different directions. Two weeks ago my husband said "Why don't you make puppets again? You loved doing it before. Lots of people crochet, not a lot of people make puppets." We ordered a few more books and then I found your videos! Thank you for the fantastic tutorials and now for the materials budget. Thank you again for these great tutorials.
Hey Adam! New builder here and I followed this fantastic tutorial series and ended up with an awesome puppet that my 4 year old is absolutely in love with. I purchased your medium shake pattern, lime green fur and eyes from Puppet Pelts, and some other materials locally. Next time (my wife is already on me to do another one) I think I will go the additional step and try making my own pattern and seeing how that goes. Thank you so much for the great instruction series, it was a really fun project to undertake during quarantine! Cheers and be well.
I appreciate you so much for this video. Ive been wanting to make a monster puppet as a friend for the longest time now because I just love them so much, but every puppet pattern I've seen online is so expensive. This is the best, most detailed and helpful tutorial I've ever seen. Thank you so much!
That is such a cool idea using the masking tape to make a pattern! How did you scale up the foam pattern pieces from the masking tape though? Did you just eyeball it or did you use a copy machine to scale up an exact copy...?
Thank you so much for this , I’ve made three puppets but all done using drawn copies of what I need to make then slowly trying to work out the pattern by drawing on paper, then upscaling by eye!! Phew this makes so much sense however still not sure on the upscaling I’m a maths Dufus
I tried making a puppet my self and it went super well but I can't get the hair right for the character I was going for. She has long hair and her pony tail is really high up and she had bangs. The wigs are quite hard to do because the size is really different from the puppet head so I'm hopping that some day you will make a wig tutorial for high pony tails. Maybe even a female body too?
Awesome tutorial, and I'm following along nicely. The roadblock I ran into was blowing up the scale. I'm not very smart with math but I do have my numbers. My guy is about 9 1/2 inches tall and I'm shooting for a 25" puppet which gives me roughly 263%. My question is how do I translate that number to the pattern I have from taping the maquette?
Hey Adam, quick question, is the armature wire you linked in the description the exact kind that you used in the video? I bought some and attempted to follow your instructions but the armature wire I received seems to be different from the one you're using in the video, it's a bit harder to bend, a bit thicker, and doesn't wrap around itself as cleanly as the one you're using. Best wishes.
So i got 2 thing to say 1 being a trick for puppet making and 1 of them being a question. 1st the trick to save modeling a character they should use a plushie. Next the question what happens if you just draw the pattern on well it work or well it just fail
Hey Adam, what happened to the head-pattern for the last puppet that you did, the only head-pattern I see is the one for puppets like Ivan but not the other one.
So this pattern: www.adamkreutinger.com/store/p12/Free_Foam_Head_Pattern%21.html is for this pattern? www.adamkreutinger.com/store/p13/Free_Fleece_Head_Pattern%21.html
Adam kreutinger your a star i have everything I need to make my first puppet except the pattern I've been waiting ages for photocopying shops to reopen now they have i can't remember how much to increase each bit by ahhh 😫😫😂😂
I have plenty of free patterns available on my website. Also people asking for a way to support the tutorials. So this is a way for them to contribute and get something extra for it.
You don’t need to buy the pattern. In the video I teach you how to make the pattern. The pattern on my website is there in case you want to support the tutorials and save time.

Your not just a good puppet maker but also a good sculptor
Thanks Adam. I've had the hardest time trying to create my own patterns. This video answers a lot of questions. Time to check out Part 2...
You should totally make a tutorial on more complex patterning, like for characters with a muzzle or with complex shapes :)
Thank you for making these tutorials! You are amazing Adam!

What's the tool called that you use for measuring? It's like a big clear set square or ruler with fluorescent trim? Many thanks
So do you need to do all this even if your just making a body?

I love making puppets always that I use the patterns of Adam the puppets are perfects
Can you use any other type of tape
Perhaps. But I would recommend not using a tape that has stretch to it. It can throw off the pattern.
Is this going to be like your other series

So is there any advice to make a robot puppet
Are you going to do an episode on puppetry for television?
Where on your website can one find the printable pattern for this?
Here it is! puppetnerd.com/patterns/
@@PuppetNerd aah...the medium shake pattern. Gotcha
If I wanted to make a puppet the size of a basket ball with short stubby arms and legs, how should I go about making it?
So i got 2 thing to say 1 being a trick for puppet making and 1 of them being a question. 1st the trick to save modeling a character they should use a plushie. Next the question what happens if you just draw the pattern on well it work or well it just fail
Depends on what you draw.
Hey Adam, what happened to the head-pattern for the last puppet that you did, the only head-pattern I see is the one for puppets like Ivan but not the other one.
You must be mistaking. There is no pattern available for Ivan.
Night guard
I just checked and it’s still there.

Let me know if you hold any in-person workshops.
Hoping to at future comic cons or puppetry workshops if I’m ever invited.

Sure can!
You think this technique is so genius! You can use this for so much!
Happy to help!
Adam how much is monster clay if I was going to buy it
About $30. But you can use any clay. Monster clay is just my preference.
Any chance you could share a supply list for the Monster Series so we can have the materials ready while we watch your videos?
Links are in the description. They can also be found here. www.adamkreutinger.com/supplies.html

How do you accurately blow them up to scale? Is there a video on that?
I just use a photo copy machine at kinkos.

Yes. But that’s not how the real one is made. The real one was sculpted in clay, molded then cast in foam.
