    I have the same materials. However I am looking for a sturdier tripod as an upgrade. Very helpful! Thanks, Alain! Be well

    Great information, appreciate you showing actually how it is setup. I have a Sienna Plein air box that isn't working too well (even with additional foam) so now I will purchase this.

    This is perfect, thank you! I'm going to my first international workshop this September, and I only started painting with pastels about a month ago. Really appreciate you, and love your work! Hope to take one of your workshops soon.

    Yay. I’m going on a cruise to Alaska. I can’t afford to buy all those things at once, but it gives me very good ideas of things to bring. I’m talking about airplane travel an d a ship. We shall see. I’m also starting to use Pan Pastels, perhaps they can be included. Let’s see, Pan Pastels, soft, hard and Pencils. Yikes. Gotta do some serious planning. Maybe just use my phone eh?

    So helpful! Thank you. I went on a missions trip recently to Germany and just threw hard pastels in my bag along with my pastel supports. I had to purchase a plywood board at a hardware store once there as my backing board and used a music stand as my easel. Makeshift but it worked! I can see how something like this would be so efficient in the future. Except I do not like working small so I bring the biggest supports that I can fit in my checkin luggage.

    Thank you for the detailed explanation, seeing it being unpacked is so much more helpfull. Do the clear envelopes not lift up the pastel (with static)?

    Hi. Do you sharpen your hard pastels either a metal blade?

  • @jan9278

    Thank You Alan, I am getting ready to attend Plein Aire Convention in Colorado in May of 2020. Your video is so helpful because we are traveling on Amtrak so I want to keep it simple plus I am now at an age I don't want to deal with anything heavy to carry.
    Just have one question, not so earth shaking but what size did you cut your backing boards and are they foam-board or gator-board?

  • @valerielinares2068
    @valerielinares2068 4 роки тому

    Do you think I could use gift wrap tissue to protect any pieces I make? Even if it doesn't work for softer pastels, do you think it would work for hard to medium pastels?
    Thanks!

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  4 роки тому

      Valerie, if the tissue is more slick like glassine it will work, if it's more matt finish it will still stick to the painting some. But as long as you tape it so it doesn't wiggle around it can still work. Just don't let it wiggle around on top of the pastel or it can smudge the pastel. Keep it flat and secure and it will protect the art.

    Thanks so much Alan! I ha e a couple questions since this video was made a little while ago: is this still the Heiman box you like best? And is this the same tripod you still prefer? And lastly does the heilman easel generally stay stable enough in a bit of wind?

    • @mitziemcelhaney1742

      Sorry for my typos!🤦🏽‍♀️

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  3 роки тому +1

      I still love the Heiman Backpack box. They have a smaller size that is great too. I love the easel and still use it. You can hang your backpack or any bag off the center bar of the easel to keep it from blowing over. It has a hook for this purpose

    Where can I find the quick release plate for my Heilman Backpack box?

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  3 роки тому

      This should come with your tripod. You attach the quick release plate from your tripod to the box, instead of attaching it to a camera. It's a small rectangular plate with a screw in it.

    Question for you: where do you put your browns? Sienna and so on. Looking at the box here, it looks like they are with the oranges. Is that right? Thanks so much.

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  5 років тому

      Thanks for the question. Check out my video "How to Set Up Your Pastel Palette" to see the full layout. I place them in the red and yellow band as you go from the tones into the shades. But there is an awesome palette guide you can follow along with if you download it from the link below the video. All the best!

    Hi there. I commented earlier but I have a question: I am trying to buy the tripod you mention but MeFoto has 5 Roadtrip versions. Is there any chance you could give a link to it? Is there any way to give you credit for the sale? I'm going to splurge and go for the lightweight carbon one I think. Take care and God bless.

    • @AlainPicard
      @AlainPicard  5 років тому

      Hey there. Here's the Carbon Fiber RoadTrip that I bought. It's expensive but light and solid. If this is too expensive, the Aluminum version is also great, just a bit heavier. All the best! I don't get a commission
