  • Elton John - Live In New York at Central Park, September 13 1980
"Elton John Goes Quackers" A free concert performed for 450,000 people in the park.
Released in 1981 as a cable-TV special (and home video).
I Read it was a concert promoting "green friendly" New York City, trying to save trees or plant more, there were shirts being passed out, people were on trees, people were hoping to see John Lennon which didn't happen (3 months before his untimely despair) even though Sir Elton sang Imagine at the show.

    love this whole concert. Elton
John is by far one of
the best artists ever, right up there with the Beatles
and Queen. The 70's and 80's had the best music ever in
    history of rock.

Lineup was Nigel Olsson on drums, the late Dee Murray on Bass, Tim Renwick and Richie Zito on guitars. Richie played on 21 at 33 album. Tim Renwick was a big session musician, had done many sessions for Al Stewart (Time Passages, Year of the Cat). I was in the middle of the crowd. Sad that Davey and Ray Cooper were not there, but you know what?? Tim and Richie did a wonderful job, and I am glad I got to see them!

***** Ha!! Just NOW realized there was someone playing an EP Rhodes?? ( Must have realized it back then and since forgotten) Of course its the great James Newton Howard, who played with the Elton John Band from 1974-1976) Keyboard Wizard and arranger who worked on Island Girl, Philadelphia Freedom, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word and others during that period. He since gained notoriety as one of the biggest soundtrack writers and arrangers in Hollywood. Responsible for many great movie soundtracks. Thank you Joe BG for bringing this to my attention!!

Hi ! this song is probably the one that I prefer between all the good songs of Sir Elton John.I find it very, very melodious, and with good rythm. And it got a particular place in my heart : I was listening to it with my best friend in my car, best friend that's no more with us, when we were driving from where I live to Paris (600km). I like this song so much that he was sick of me, cause I was playing it and playing it again & again. Only good memories of my friend. Cool video ! BYE !

Elton says this song doesn't work in concert, which is why it's seldom played live. I guess he would know, since it's his song, but this version sounded fine, even without the brass. (Plus, Dee & Nigel! =D)

Yes, there are horn flourishes on the ends of the verses, e. g. "and I want you to be my acrobat." They may have been synthed, but there are credited horn players on the album 21 At 33, according to Wikipedia.

@sprintbass I totally agree, i have many concerts on dvd, wheather elton john, nirvana, queen,, great picture and bonus material. Audio is fab, Usally I watch the best quality vids on youtube, yes these vids i have of this concert are pretty, "not good" lol but yeah ;] rocks. Elton John Band truely is awsome, always had a good line up, in 1980 Nigel was back on his line up which rocks, he has a different sound here, that big beat on the snare. Looks the same here from when he first played in 70!

Oh little Jeannie, you got so much love, little Jeannie
And you take it where it strikes and give it to the likes of me
Oh little Jeannie, she got so much love, little Jeannie
So I see you when I can, you make me all a man can be
And I want you to be my acrobat, I want you to be my lover
Oh there were others who would treat you cruel
And oh little Jeannie, you were always someone's fool
Little Jeannie, you got so much time, little Jeannie
Though you've grown beyond your years, you still retain the fears of youth
Oh little Jeannie, you got so much time, little Jeannie
But you're burning it up so fast, searching for some lasting truth
And I want you to be my acrobat, I want you to be my lover
Oh there were others who would treat you cruel
But oh Jeannie, I will always be your fool
And I want you to be my acrobat, I want you to be my lover
Oh there were others, and I've known quite a few
But oh oh Jeannie, I'm still in love with you
Stepped into my life from a bad dream
Making the life that I had seem suddenly shiny and new
Oh Jeannie I'm so in love with you
Stepped into my life from a bad dream

I've also heard he doesn't do any 80s "pre-rehab" songs anymore, hence most of the non-Taupin material, rarely if ever played live. I am going to place my vote for the Gary Osbourne material being ignored because it's.... well... not Taupin.
