@@michaellawrence9839 Bernie definitely writes all the lyrics. The only song where melody was composed before words were written was on "Don't go Breaking My Heart." with Kiki Dee.
An absolute masterpiece. No cover of this will EVER come close to this original. This song is ingrained in my mind as a song that my sister and I listened to way back in the winter of 1977 when we were stuck at home during a two week snowstorm that seemed it would never stop. Even as kids we were getting sick of the snow. LOL But my sister and I had a new album by Elton John and it was the LP that included this song. We would play both sides of that whole LP on the turntable a few times a day and that album had so many great songs of EJ's on it and we never grew tired of it. We would sit in the big front window of the house every day and listen to that EJ album and watch the snow coming down by the ton. The deepest that snow got during that two week blizzard was three feet deep. So now every time I see snow falling heavily I can't help but hear these incredible EJ songs in my head and when I hear these songs I can't help but envision snow swirling out of the sky in my mind. Those two weeks of Elton John and a huge snowstorm permanently associated snow and Elton John in my mind. The swirling snow coming down so heavily went perfectly with the up-tempo cover of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" that was also on that album. During the chorus lines of that song I can just see snow swirling out of the sky in my mind and I remember how the words fit that swirling snow scene so well because when the clouds would thin just a bit and the huge snowflakes would glow and glitter a bit because of a little sunlight leaking through they looked like diamonds falling out of the sky. I would picture Lucille Ball (Lucy) pouring diamonds out into the sky and them falling as the snow. Yes, my sister and I had quite vivid imaginations on those blizzard days. LOL We took what would normally be boring for kids now and made it into something almost magical and quite fun. My sister passed away last year suddenly and so now these somber and emotional Elton John songs that she and I enjoyed so much as kids always really get to me now. The piano in this song brings a tear to my eye when I think of my sister and remember how we watched the snow for two weeks while listening to this and many other EJ songs on the old turntable. Those were some special times that I will never forget and I will always see swirling snow in my mind when I hear this song, Philadelphia Freedom, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, The B***h Is Back, Island Girl, and so many other awesome songs by Elton John. I miss you, sis, and will always think of you when I hear these songs.

It's more like a "Swan Song" in many ways. He probably needed a long vacation. "Don't Go Breakin' My Heart" was huge during that Summer, and this came out just before the Holidays that year. My Mother passed away 2 weeks ago. We hadn't spoken in 5 years over money issues. I didn't attend the funeral because my family looks down on me because of my drug use. I play this almost every day now. Tears gushing I am getting clean but I miss my mother so..🙏🙏
Strength brother .,🙏
Keep going and make her proud. She knows, trust me.

After watching the film based on his life's pivotal moments, I will never hear this song the same way. I never imagined how much pain he felt when writing this song.
Good movie !!
When it comes to human relationship, there will be too many "sorry". It never ends. This song is always relevant.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Forty years listening to it and never get tired of it
Helaman Munoz
I NEVER realised it it 40 years old, it sounds so contemporary, not 80's at all!
The fact that there is 1000 dislikes on this video makes me question peoples opinion of true talent. Elton John one of the greatest ever
Serious.
I have the same Question.
Im pretty sure all those Thumbs down came from young People who listen to Jenifer Lopez and other Bullshit, and they got absolut no clue about Music.
definitely! but don't forget his brilliant lyricist Bernie Taupin! ♥♥

New International Version
Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on a wound, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart. Prov. 20:20
C'est a cause du gilet en poils de mammouth ....
Remembering how many 'likes' Opa Gagnam Styles got, makes it easier to understand.
It's 2023 and this song is still magical
This is a great song
This is indeed a wonderful song. So emotional on all levels.
👍👍👍👍👍💝💝💝💝
Y hoy en 2024, sigue siendo preciosa.
2024 and still true

Awesome
is it 44 years ago oh my god i feel old
🧡
Probably one of the most beautiful songs sung by one the most incredible musicians of all time.
Wow! Love Elton! ❤️ Every song he's written and sings is gold! I'll never grow tired of his music. Timeless!
The piano masters, Billy Joel, Elton John, Ray Charles. They bring out the best in music, period.
Dennis DeYoung from STYX is an excellent player as well
Saw Elton in concert almost 40 years ago at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Fantastic concert. But this is the one song I really remember from that show. It got really quiet and really dark, and then there were green laser lights moving slowly through the arena as he sang and played. Awesome.
I wish there was a "love" button. "Like" isn't sufficient enough.
I wish too...
I absolutely agree
ikr
Totally agree

It's strange that people come and go, years pass but the power of music is still here to empower us!
Also weird how easy it is to remember good lyrics. I can throw on a tupac song I haven't heard in 15 years and rap the entire thing.
My son plays this song by ear ❤
Thanks
2024
Elton John sang this song with so much feeling and emotion, very haunting and moving, love the layered harmony background vocals
Absolutely incredible the way this man could sing. I loved the movie and will see it again, but I missed his voice in the songs.
And the beautiful accordion sound!
Should always sing with emotion
When a 16 year relationship dies Elton put a little piece of of my heart back together.....
So sorry
Thanks Kim.
Broken hearted here too. (12 year relationship) Sending healing energy to ur heart.
Mine Was 22 Years It Will Never Stop Hurting. Hang In There Were Not The Only Ones. Don't Hang Your Head Ever. JUST LIVE BABY!

Il me fait pleurer à chaque fois! Quelle magnifique chanson! Chapeau bas devant ce grand artiste!

He is a master of songs!
It's just unbelievable how talented Elton John and Bernie Taupin were.Together they produced some of the greatest songs of all time and over such a long period of time
That voice... damn!
나 어릴때 하루 몇번씩 들었든 노래 추억에 푹 젖어봅니다

Ağlama...
superbe melodie chanter avec tant d'émotions et on le voit sur son visage .
bravo l'artiste.
I WAS A TEEN AGER IN THE 70'S. ELTON was my favorite. I never saw a video of him singing then. Un heard of in those days. Just a record player.
One of the iconic voice in our generation. Truly a legend.
Still listening and crying in 2022 😭❤️
Such an amazing song that never gets old 🥰🥰🥰
Music is Forever. It will be new
all the time.
this song is many times better than the songs I hear on the radio nowadays

Music accepts☺️😌!
Yes, a true haunting melody and the lingering lyrics leaves nothing but regret and disappointment. Nothing like a good downer to lift ya up.
Watched the movie two times now and WOW!!
loved Elton before and love him even more after it.
He’s such a fierce, beyond talented, and a legend!
Can't help hearing a little boy desperately craving love and attention from his dad ..
I feel sorry for him because he's been through alot like depression alcoholic drug addict bulmic divorce being rushed into show business.
He feels that he hurt alot of people
His mother also felt disappointed just for being his mother
😭😭😭😢😢😢😢
It hurts 😭😭😭
And mom
I have come to a point in my marriage where I finally understand and feel the lyrics almost like it was written for my situation. Timeless and beautiful. Elton and Bernie angels on earth 🙏💎
This is the best song
This man is honestly a gift from god in terms of talent and virtuoso.
The difficult thing is to be humble in a world of pride.
Arte em Folhas Palmeiras ONE OF MY FAVORITES
Absolutely right
damn it hits me
Yes it is
Its just amazing how Elton can take any set of lyrics and know exactly how to convey its meaning through music.
I’ve been listening to Elton for over 50 years. He is a gift. And I got to talk to Bernie on the phone once.
Well I can see lots agree with me. This is the greatest Elton John song. It has the lot. Theme, lyrics, piano, orchestra, arrangement .. classic.
This has always been my favorite Elton John song. So deeply moving
I'm here because I love listening to Elton John, one of the greatest musicians of all time.
Damn. First time listening to this and I’m in tears. How powerful this is. My god!

My favorite of all of Elton John's songs, which is saying quite a lot.
If you heard the right words...

Probably one of the best songs of all time.
It's a real pleasure to hear how he could sing back then. He can still sing well, but in his prime, he was a force of nature...
