  • Kevin DeYoung, Robert Godfrey, Stephen Nichols, R.C. Sproul, and R.C. Sproul Jr. answer questions on topics such as modern advancements in medical technology, children who die in infancy, what Heaven will be like, and more.
Note: This Questions and Answers session is made available for historical archival purposes only. Introduction (0:00)
    Questions:
    1. Considering that Coptic Christians believe Jesus had only one nature (monophysites), can we consider them Christians? (00:30)
    2. With all of the advancements in medical care in helping to keep people alive, what is the Christian’s responsibility in accepting these medical advances? Can a Christian say no to medical treatment or do we have the responsibility to seek any and all treatment available? (06:00)
    3. How do I faithfully keep the 5th commandment when I have two mothers instead of a father and a mother? (09:13)
    4. Are women who profess to be Christians, but proceed with an abortion on the promise of forgiveness, truly saved? (15:03)
    5. What do we say to a mother who has lost her child in infancy when she asks, “is my child in Heaven?” (24:53)
    6. My teenage daughter stated, “how boring heaven must be if all we are doing there is worship God.” It was a thought and statement that took my breath away. What do you think heaven will be like? (27:32)
    7. We are told to obey our government. Was it sinful for Tyndale to translate and print the Bible? (33:23)
    8. If the devil is not omnipresent, how much of our sin is a result of our sinful nature as opposed to temptations of the devil? (35:07)
    9. Since Jesus received our punishment, why do Christians still receive punishment for sins they commit? For example, why would a Christian become sick or die for not judging themselves rightly before communion (1 Cor. 11)? (36:10)
    10. Sadly, I do not have a great love for my fellow man. I do not have a great fear for the lost. I tell myself that I love God, and want to serve and please Him. Am I fooling myself on my salvation? (42:25)
    11. I am in leadership at a very traditional Baptist church. My pastor knows of my Reformed leanings. How can I best serve my church while pushing and praying for reformation? (48:38)

I like so many others will miss being able to attend conferences with RC Sproul. He left a wonderful albeit mixed legacy. Tragically his reprobate son is part of that legacy. It's fortunate for Dr. Sproul's sake that RC Jr didn't abandon the Reformed faith until after his father's passing. That scandal, on top of RC Jr's many other scandals and crimes, may have proven to be the most painful one of all to Dr. Sproul. See the Spinderella Sproul blog for more.

@@PaDutchRunner This Sproul family debacle began 4 years ago when RC Jr married a 3 times divorced woman. He was forced to demit his ordination because his Presbytery viewed such a marriage as biblically impermissible. Lisa immediately set about engaging in parental alienation tactics and RC Jr went along with it. With Lisa's encouragement they've alienated and cut off every single member of his family. Things got even worse several weeks ago when RC Jr and Lisa publicly accused the late Denise Sproul of "marital unfaithfulness." Many people personally knew Denise and knew she was incapable, both morally and even logistically, of adultery. RC Sproul may be Reformed but he's anything but Presbyterian. He only thing "Presbyterian" about RC Sproul is he "parks his ordination" in the PCA. The church he founded, Saint Andrews Chapel, has always been an independent non-denominational church. He fought members of his own congregation for years who'd petitioned to have the church brought into the PCA. So in point of fact RC Sproul is anti-Presbyterian.

I appreciate the sentiment and what is being attempted but not a fan of the reference of 2 Samuel. Very weak exposition. The most obvious understanding of the passage in David saying he will join the child is merely that he will die. David comforting his new wife is physical (she conceived). This kind of sloppy exposition is not a comfort. It distances God’s people from the certainty of his promises that we do receive in the scripture when they are handled carefully.

@@justanotherbaptistjew5659 What is their rationale for that assertion? In the English there doesn’t seem to be any reason to say that is what he is referring to. I’m not sure if there is some meaning hidden in the Hebrew or Greek? I am not a linguist.
Did David have a clear a theology of heaven as Christians today? I’m far from convinced. Many references in his covenant position refer to Sheol (see 1 Samuel 2:6 and 2 Samuel 22:6).
I am happy to be corrected but, quite frankly, it is not good enough to appeal to the authority of scholars without their rationale. In my experience, good scholars are commonly shoddy expositors. If there argument is good, I will listen and am open to being persuaded. If their argument is poor or ill-founded I will reject it.

Well for starters you can take what they said in the video: “he comforted her.” Saying, “yeah my kid is dead, but I will be too” is far from comforting. There was most definitely a perception of the afterlife at that time, since even Job mentions an afterlife.

@@justanotherbaptistjew5659 well, in verse 23 he’s speaking to his servants that question him in V21, not Bathsheba.
We don’t know for certain how David comforted Bathsheba. However, we do know it involved lying with her. If we keep reading we see that they had another baby (Solomon). That seems most plausible to me that this is the primary way that David comforted her. The author seems to want us to couple David’s comfort with Solomon’s conception (which is why they are stated in the same verse). There does also seem to be something of a precedent in this form of comfort in the bible (see Isaac and Rebekah in Genesis 24:67).

The objective of a Christian form of Hegelian dialectics is to manufacture a religion for all; yet, make it appear Christian to a degree. Hegelian dialectics is present in most churches as well as being engraved deeply in culture. This is why liberal churches want to bring culture into the church structure and remove the idea we simply need to believe in the Bible cover to cover as separated and peculiar believers in the Savior. John Calvin believed in general society having worth as it would defeat satan casting him into hell, though he also added Christians into this equation in his commentary on Genesis chapter 3. Calvin did deny Jesus Christ in this eventuality, being a blasphemer of Almighty God and a false prophet. No surprise here!
Because Calvin believed in this soon occurrence, true Calvinists believe satan is in hell today and society is relevant to Christianity. Rick Warren’s religion teaches this as well within his “paradigm shift.” Warren is pro-homosexuality and every evil thing under the sun. He stands with homosexuals assisting him in escorting peace to the earth-a false “kingdom Now” phenomenon of ecumenicalism of so-called believers who reject much in the way of Biblical truths.
Georg Wilhelm Hegel (1770-1831) was about replacing something old with something new. Today it is equated to “e.g., capitalism with communism or Marxism, traditional Bible doctrine with theological modernism, a traditional educational system based on moral absolutes with a new one based on relativism, an old age with a new age, etc.”
Of course this is not new and we read in Ecclesiastes how silly society was in Solomon’s day-always seeking something new, saying come here; this is new or that is new.
Of course, this all arises from the pit of hell. Confronting sin is certainly set apart within the Hegelian mind-set which is now running amok in fellowships. And it sets forth a religion of confusion and God is not a God of confusion. He is a God of never-changing ancient truths. If people want God’s perfect peace they rest in the Scriptures alone, and do not run here and there seeking to be in style or culturally acceptable within satan’s deadly grasp.
I will add, true believers who do not conform to the churchy form of Hegelian dialectics, are usually pushed out of the church, though they are sometimes offered warnings previous to. Of course, God commands Christians to not conform to any aspect of this satanic heresy, which is mainly produced by pastors who want their churches on the map for fame-sake and lucre-sake.

It is infuriating how all our churchmen accept that the federal and state government bureaucrat are "authorities" like a Caesar or a king or a dictator. Why concede the status of king or ruler to some secular bureaucrat? Government by definition is that collection of reprobates who call themselves government and distinguish themselves by living off the labors of we the people.
Do we still believe in the divine right of kings? Do we believe that the "president" is some sort of king and all the other bureaucrats are his vassals and that we the people are the peasants and serfs bound to serve these "rulers"? Do we just roll over and accept that the cops are our authorities appointed by God to rule over us at the point of a government gun?
NO! Even the scum that calls itself government is quick to shout "Rule of law, not man!"
Meanwhile our church leaders such as this panel openly cede a divine right of any and all bureaucrats to rule over we the people. They tell us that we must obey these men, that these secular disciples of Satan have a divine right to rule over Christians and that Christians are bound by God to obey this unholy collections of misfits and perverts, protected by their unconstitutional, unlawful standing armies of cops and homeland security and FBI.
Our true leaders, the Sprouls and DeYoungs, et al., have turned tail, conceded divine authority to Satan's disciples and tell us to roll over and give our tithes and offerings to the "government" without question, when we know full well that "government" uses it to fund abortions and attack Christianity at all levels.
Our true leaders are so mistaken that they even concede these disciples of Satan the power to redefine marriage to mean something other than as God defined it. They tell us that we must endure, simply accept, these insults to God. They do not even hint that we should overturn these satanic "court" opinions and encoded legislative statute.
What a colossally errant presupposition these otherwise well read and learned men hold to suppose that divine authority can pass to disciples of Satan! How blind they are to the fact that in this country, as in Switzerland, we all hold the sword, except that the government sword is not a terror to evil, it is the evil, it held, by the perverts and deviants who call themselves government, to the throat of all Christians.
That fraud known as the federal reserve system, private cabal, not federal, nothing in reserve, but boy it is a racket, is not a divine institution, paper is not what God established to be money, and just because it is private and Congress pretends it has "money" to lend, does not give it any legitimacy, may Senator Aldrich burn eternally. God intended stability, that men should be able to store up treasure and have to give to others, not the inflated flood of fiat federal reserve notes from that third party printing press. Yet, we hear nothing of this evil that hits the little man harder than all other forms of government mandated fraud.
This is the great error of our leaders today, that they will not challenge the antichrist government even though the thoughts and acts of the parasites who call themselves government are only evil continually. In America, it is time to throw off this satanic yoke. Don't fight city hall, be city hall! Have the courage to defy unlawful unamerican central government.
We have God on the side of righteousness and we have a mandate from God to disciple the nations. Let's start right here.
    Sincerely
    David Parker

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

+David Parker It should not infuriate you. We are called to obey the authorities unless they demand us to obey man instead of God. Keep in mind the authority Paul talked about in his letters would have been Nero, who later beheaded Paul.
