    Great video, thanks for posting. I have a 07 Sorento with the same transmission. I have an intermittent problem where car seems to go to limp mode and struggles to rev above 2,000 rpm with no kick down. Happens sometimes but not always. I changed the fluid in the pan (6 litres) and the problem went away for around 4 months. It's now returned and I'm thinking of doing a full flush and filter change. There are three bolts on the filter which have nuts at the filter. Any problems tightening or removing these when changing the filter? would you advise a full flush with 140,000 miles and pan fluid changed twice previous? Appreciate your expert advice! BTW No codes shown with a Foxwell scanner.

    ecm inside the transmission ? there can't be any good reason why it's in there. I will take a jatco 3n71b any day of the week over this over-engineered garbage. My hat's off to you for patching this stuff up. The nissan dealer probably would charge much more.

      To be exact I have a 2005 4x4 and my issue is that while driving for about 20-30 mins it just seemingly goes into neutral. Limp mode is what I told it is called. Then when the engine cools down it will drive normal until same thing happens again. So per auto zone I bought a transmission speed sensor to hopefully remedy the problem but I have no idea where it goes on the transmission. So that’s what I need to know. Where?

    Hello, I have an Pathfinder 08 that starting to act strange when gearing. Car drives smoothly when cold up to 5th gear, that keep slipping from time to time... But when drive car hard it goes into Limp mode cannot go into 4th and 5th..Sometimes the car shudder from 1th to 2nd gear not always. Also when in to Nissan dealer and scanned car, said all gears where slipping. I have no engines light and errors... So what i asking can this fault only be the Vavlebody or do it sound like I need a complete overhaul? Filter was clean and oil look ok, but little bit brown... Had littlebit coolant 2 years ago in transmission and now radiator is bypassed.
    suggestions would be great and much appreciated.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      If there are no codes, you may need an overhaul. Are you sure no codes? By chance does it look like water may have gotten into the trans, earlier pathfinders the radiators would go bad

    • @kjetilvestb5452
      @kjetilvestb5452 7 років тому

      Have 4 codes, everyone say Gear slipping 2-3-4-5..Dont have the number of the codes have to call again, and ask but the mechanic said these codes where not related to electronic, but engine sensor and gear speed sensor not reading same value. Yes I had bad radiator before but thought I had fixed it by flushing the transmission.

      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      Once the water gets in there its only a matter of time before something happens, if you can, can you get the code numbers and let me know what they are

      RE5R05A Code P0732 Gear 2 Incorrect ratio

      RE5R05A Code P0734 Gear 4 Incorrect ratio
      RE5R05A Code P0735 Gear 5 Incorrect ratio
      Is the codes im getting... What I understand from you I think I need a complete overhault. Car drives smootly normally from 1 to 4th but sometimes car acting all strange... From my mecanic point of view I would not say friction plates because most of the times car gears fine... but more Valves in valvebody.

      Wow the computer is seeing a slip in all ranges almost, have you cleared the codes to see what comes back? so you have an issue in 5th? does it slip going into 5th? Still not liking the fact that water was in there at one point

    Gary Ferraro, I have a supercharged G35 coupe with this trans. It is slipping in 5th gear (free revving) also it shifts fine going round town but if I am on it it doesn't want to shift. We upped the line pressure and the car would not move itself. We then lowered the line pressure back to stock and it would move normally again. What is the issue? Possibly a bad solenoid, pump,?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      The input clutch comes on in 4th and stays on for 5th, how is your 3-4 shift? is it good or does it flare on the shift?

    • @AaronWJ
      @AaronWJ 7 років тому

      3-4 shift is good. I took the input clutch out before and put it back in. Possibly I didn't put it in all the way? I heard a hard clunk when I did and the front pump plate slid on easily and bolted on easily. The only issues I have is shifting from gear to gear at full load high rpm and the 5th gear gone. I have my old valve body, I have a shift kit in the current one. Should I switch valve body solenoids and see if thats the issue?

    Great video. What exactly did you use to get the last piece out with, the piston. You looked for a tool then video cut to the part being out. Also can you do a build video? I am working on this transmission.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  8 років тому

      +Robert Ellsworth I used a foot press to depress the springs and snap ring pilers to pop out the snap ring. The foot press i use everyday to disassemble clutch drums. Gary I will keep the rebuild video in mind, i currently do not have one of these units in the shop. What problem are you having? is it a pathfinder? any water intrusion?

    • @robertellsworth2209
      @robertellsworth2209 8 років тому +1

      +Gary Ferraro
      Yes a Pathfinder, yes water intrusion. I have already tried replacing the valve body. it still slipped in 4th. I have it all torn down. Most of the frictions are bad. I bought it knowing it had transmission problems. This is my 3rd pathfinder. I got them very cheap because of the transmission issues. The first two I was able to just replace the valve body. Each are still going 20k+ miles later. This one I didn't get so lucky. I work on cars daily but have never gone farther into a trans other than a valve body. I have good service manuals but listening to someone and follow along is so nice. I will try to get that piston out. then its clean and reassemble.
      thanks

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  8 років тому

      +Robert Ellsworth you have an overhaul kit? when trans filled with water the seals swell, makes it alittle harder to get the pistons out, once you get the snap ring out, try using air to blow the piston out.

    • @robertellsworth2209
      @robertellsworth2209 8 років тому

      +Gary Ferraro
      Yes full overhaul kit and torque converter. So blow air in at the seal? Try to get past the oring?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  8 років тому +1

      +Robert Ellsworth Blow air into the apply port(bottom of case where valvebody sits) see if the piston will blow out, again with water intrusion the seals may be swelled and might be alittle hard to come out, also if the piston pops up on one side use pliers to grab the piston to try to get it out, may have to walk it out.

    Hi I have an 05 nissan pathfinder. I believe it is in limp mode/safety mode. I cleared the check engine light code 1767 for the trans Brake problem and it drove fine. I turned it off at a gas station and when I started it up the check engine light came back on and it started limp mode again. Do you think it needs a new valve body? Tcm?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      Very possible, but first you have to check the condition of the transmission fluid, every 2005 Pathfinder radiator goes bad and water enters the transmission, may look like a strawberry milkshake. Has the radiator been changed out yet?

    • @andrewburkhardt
      @andrewburkhardt 7 років тому

      No, The valvebody will have to be programmed in order for it to work correctly, a used valvebody will not work, either a new valvebody from the dealer or a pre programmed one with your vin number can be used. Where are you located?

    any suggestion

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      First, make sure fluid looks ok(no water intrusion). P1759 i think is front brake solenoid. The TCM is inside the unit as part of the valvebody, If fluid looks ok, you can drop the valvebody, ohm the solenoid, if it ohms ok, then you nwill need a computer/valvebody, which should really come from the dealer, these have to be programmed now so you cant go used, it wont work. Hey Gary, I just bought a used Xterra with auto tranny. I bypassed the radiator so that only the external tranny cooler is being used to cool the atf.
    Is there any harm in just using the external tranny cooler without going through the radiator?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      Hello, These transmissions are very expensive to rebuild. The transmission computer(TCM) is located inside the transmission, for that reason its very hard to get a used one because the computer/valvebody would have to be programmed to the car and that really cant be done. Question, Have you ever had a radiator put in this truck? These are known to go bad and what will happen is the transmission will get full of antifreeze/water. Being the fact that this truck does not move, you probably have a clogged screen from something coming apart. Where are you located?

  • @carolejackson2653
    @carolejackson2653 7 років тому

    My 06 Pathfinder will not shift out of first gear when driving, but shifts into reverse just fine, transmission fluid levels good and clean, no smell. Dealer is suggesting complete overhaul but tranny is not throwing any codes and so im inclined to believe it is some sort of sensor issue, but im a girl so no one is taking me seriously lol. Any suggestions would be great and much appreciated.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 років тому

      Hi Carole, Do you have a check engine light on? The TCM on this trans is inside the transmission. When did this start happening? did you have any work done and now no shifting? Have you had the car scanned yourself? where are you located? Gary

    • @carolejackson2653
      @carolejackson2653 7 років тому

      Hi Gary, Thanks for following up, nope, no check engine light and accelerates smoothly, just will not shift into 2nd gear. Reverses just fine. I am in the US Virgin Islands, so finding an authorized dealer is an issue, especially since many of the mechanics just want to switch out the tranny without actually considering other options. The car was scanned with a standard ODBll scanner, but I dont believe it could read Transmission Error codes, but in any case there were no stored codes found. Did recently have to change the oil sensor plug but that was it.
